I belive that if we could pull this off, it would be a powerful secret weapon. I mean, look what Morgan Spurlock did to McDonalds... It would be the same... We need a great ammount of GL footage, old interviews and stuff, so we can show his hypocrisie. We would need to tape some interviews, show what was changed in 1997 and 2004... Make sure our opinion is heard. It would be a short film, perhaps 30 minutes long...

Getting the word out.
Time
I was talking to my brother yesterda about the 2004 DVDs, he is NOT a Star Wars fan by the way, and this is part of the conversation (this is 100% real):

"And you know what they did? They replaced Sebastian Shawn with Hayden Christensen!"
"Who?"
"Well, uh... do you remember the ending of Return od the Jedi?"
"Yes."
"What was in the ending? Do you remember?"
"Yes, uh... ewoks dancing."
"OK, besides that, do you remember the three ghosts..."
"Uh... I guess..."
"Looking at Luke and smiling, there were three ghosts... Who were them?"
"Uh... Luke's father... and uh... that thing..."
"Yes, Luke's father, Obi-Wan and Yoda."
"Whatever."
"So... they replaced the actor who did Luke's father with the actor who plays Anakin in the prequels!"
"(long pause) Uh... ok, so what? By the way, why would ANYONE buy this DVD set, they obviously have seen the movie before! Why would anyone buy a movie they have seen so many times?!"

After a while...

"They also have re-done the Jabba the Hutt scene, and..."
"Nah, I remember that, they already did it for the... uh... 1998... aniversary edition thing..."
"1997."
"Yeah yeah whatever. They did it back them, it's not new."
"Uh, no, they RE-done it."
"(pause)... No, no, they did it back then."

And that's how 99% of the people out there think about it.

It's an encoding error - so why would those encoded seperatly from your release have it? It's possible that other NTSC releases like Japan use the same encoded video stream - but for PAL they have to be encoded seperatly. I've only watched all the way through Star Wars so far, Empire and Jedi I'll watch when I have time. I checked all the way through chapter 26 and it's fine.

OK, OK, so it's not on the PAL version. Geez...

how good is the public transport in Rio and Sao Paulo - safe, cheap, reliable etc

OK, that's our major problem. It's not good at all, it's confusing, very, very complicated, and you'd probably get lost in it. I don't know about Rio as I've taken few public transportations while working there, but it might be the same. In Sao Paulo there are some subway stations (costs about 50 "dollar" cents a trip), they are surprisingly very clean and safe, but they are too few. If you know where you are going, then I would recomend them.

Buses, well... simply horrible. They used to be worse, they're a LOT cleaner now, but unless you are VERY familiar with the city, I wouldn't recomend it to you. During rush hours it's almost impossible to catch one, and sometimes you must do the entire trip standing up. In Sao Paulo we use an eletronic card system, you pay 50 cents when you get into a bus, and for the next 2 hours you can catch any other bus for free (this is not available in Rio). Again, do NOT step into a bus unless you KNOW what you're doing, you might get lost and you wont enjoy the trip at all. The safety issue, well, unless you catch a bus going to a tough neighborhood at 1 am (which is a death sentence by itself), you'll be fine. On Rio it's a little bit more dangerous, I suppose, as EVERY neighborhood is a bad one, but the odds are you'll survive.

Taxis are ok, for a 30 minute trip you'd pay something like... 15 dollars, maybe more. If you get to Rio de Janeiro, at the airpot, do NOT follow anyone who asks you if you need a taxi, those guys will overcharge you. Instead, look for a line of people waiting for a taxi. Ask someone from the airport and they'll direct you to it.

Traffic is absolutly terrible in Sao Paulo during rush hours, and since the city is huge, you might take more than an hour to get somewhere. It's a little bit better in Rio, as it has fewer cars and it's a smaller city.

If you are planing about coming to Brazil any time soon, just drop me a message or an email (it's my username on this forum, at hotmail dot com), and I'll see what I can do to help you. Again, I'd only recomend it if you are the adventurous/independett kinda traveller, if you're like that, you'll have lots of fun!

I would open with the original, "yub yub" ending scene of ROTJ, with narration going: "Was it all... a dream? Didn't this really happen? Look, there's Sebastian Shawn, he's often in my dreams..."

Star Wars DVD Music Mix Botched!!
Time
OK, I've seen both A NEW HOPE and the main feature in the special features DVD last night, me and a friend (I was awake until 1 in the morning last night, and I woke up 5 hours later, I'm so sleepy and tired...), and here are my notes on it:

I've paid some, extra, extra attention to the audio and video, to see if I could notice any of the problems reported. First of all, is it me, or the STAR WARS logo and introduction text was going too fast, a few frames faster than usual? And I COULD hear something weird with the soundtrack, but I couldn't point my finger on what was it, I could SENSE there was something wrong.

New Jabba: ok, he looks a little bit better, but still... He looks angrier than the 1997 one, that one was almost scared of Solo, and looked sad... This one is meaner, more Jabba like. The shadows Solo casts over Jabba looked VERY fake though.

Video: It looked great, but I could feel some brightness problems during the first scene of the droids in tatooine.

Audio problems: Yes, there were audio problems during the grand moff tarkin line "than name the system". I could sense there were audio problems with the dialogue between Leia and Solo aboard the milenium falcon, just after they escape the death star. Can anyone confirm that?

Editing?: Is it me, or was the death star battle re-edited? Just after Vader's line "Close formation", it cuts to a different scene! Can anyone confirm that, or I have become paranoid and insane?

The brazillian, region 4 edition: I didn't turn on the subtitles, so I don't know if there were any mistakes, I belive not. The special features and comentaries feature subtitles, so SW fans around the world who do not speak english (75% of them) will be pleased. The portuguese dubbing is the one for the 1997 version, edited/speeded to synch the DVD and the new SFX - I'm glad they kept the 1997 version, it sounded good and the actors did a terrific job. If you chose any other language than portuguese (the brazillian version came with spanish and portuguese languages), than the opening crawl text was in its language (how did they do that without creating a new copy of the film on the disc?!)

BTW, anyone else notice that Obi-wan's "as if a thousand voices cried out...." line is missing?

Nope, it's there, at least in the region 4 version.

The special feature: I didn't like it so much (I've seen only the main documentary), it felt too much like VH1 behind the music... It was amusing to hear David Prowse delivering Vader's lines - I would also like to see more behind the scenes footage, and probably an old interview with Alec Guiness (or maybe footage of him ripping and burning fan letters).

Jimbo, what do you want to do for a living? I'm kinda curious... Are you going to be a pimp, or a KKK member, or a porn flick director? Shoe salesman, maybe?

Probably a newsman for Fox News eh...

Class Action lawsuit?!?

Setting aside the outright arrogance inherent in that statement... I don't recall the original trilogy EVER being marketed as an unfinished work... not when they were first released, not when they were released on VHS, not even when they were re-released the THX-certified home videos. Lucas has made BILLIONS off a product he now claims he never felt was finished, in his eyes. Nice of him to tell us AFTER we shelled out our money for it.

What's the statue of limitations on false advertising? Any lawyers out there willing to open up a class action lawsuit? I know where you can find a list of clients. ;-)

That is SO insane that it might actually work...

WTF, you're saying that Majin Boo was inspired in Jabba the Hut? LOL, Freeza IS a wakling Death Star, he blew up planet Vegeta with his finger.

Well, most of the space battles featured in todays movies (and I suspect Star Wars is also under this effect because GL was in Japan during the early 70s) were inspired by the 1974 anime Yamato, which featured the first real space battles ever, and the Star Destroyers have a huge similaritie with the Yamato starship.
