Nausicaa...
Time
I've seen his early works (Lupin Sansei, Future Boy Conan) and some of the recent stuff (Nausicaa, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away). His anime are truly pieces of art, and he always carry a meaningful message on all of them. He is a brilliant director, and knows how to cativate an audience and to hold their atention. Take "Nausicaa" as an example, it has a slightly complicated plot and it takes time for the viewer to get every information about the characters and the world they live in, and he does this brilliantly, in a +2 hour anime without boring the audience or confusing it.

So, if you liked Nausicaa, watch "Grave of the Fireflies". I'd like to discuss it with you

The only thing I'll say - and I won't say anything else about this subject - is that the news and information you guys get in the U.S. ... is quite different from the news and information on the rest of the world.

SO... let's talk about good anime films here, shall we? After all, the topic is "Nausicaa", an anime.

Well, I'm not going to argue with you about evironment issues. I don't have to and I don't want to, and I belive neither does you.

The piece of crap I was refering to WAS Matrix Revolutions. The first one is good. The second one was "meh", but with good action sequences. The third is terrible.

You've been deprived, Ric.

The reason that show is not broadcast here it's because it's untranslatable. How are they going to show MST3K here? Dub it? Impossible. Subtitle it? Also impossible. And MST3K makes some references most people here wouldn't understand...

From Manos:

"The Master is in HOUSTON this week..."
"Wake up honey the dog's dead... awwwww that came out all wrong..."
"You're missing the fight, Torgo. Put on your dress and get in there!"
"Oh, get up Torgo, I'm nt gonna kill you."

I think you've missed the point. Earth was destroyed by men, but even so, Earth managed to cope with that destruction and create a perfect "balance" of it's natural resources, animals, and the polution. At what cost? Mankind was confined to small villages, always afraid of the polution madness it has created. I think it's a great environmentalist film, it's just that it's upbeat and positive about the future.

Earth is devestated, but in a past long forgotten; everybody just assumes that it was done by humans. I don't think it were possible for humans to pollute the whole earth, especially by accident. And being up-beat and positive is what I was talking about; that is the exact opposite of the accursed modern environmental movement, which wants you to believe the world is ending and it's all America's fault.

They don't assume, that was the case. Notice the early "narration" at the begining of the movie. If you must put America on the environment subject, there's not much to argue, is there? Consumes more than alf of the Earth's natural resources, contributes with more than half of the world's polution, and has broken pacts such as Kyoto's, making the world go back 25 years in environmental protection development. But what is THE message of this movie (not only this movie, but also from other environmental-subjected films and series, such as "Future Boy Conan")? Basically, that we should not continue making the sames mistakes. We shouldn't just pretend it's not there. In 20 years, drinkable water will be as rare as oil in most countries. In some places it is already. We should not put other interests such as "profit" in front of it... It is our future and our children's future in sake here, but, unfortunally, some people will just close their eyes and pretend it's not happening...

I could go on and on on the subject, and make some harsher coments about some countries and corporations, but I rather not to. It's pointless.

Does anyone else think that the Matrix Revolutions completely ripped off the ending of this film?

I don't quite remember the ending of that piece of crap, but you could be right... Lots of movies rip off ideas from anime. Disney blatantly steals from anime on every single movie it makes.

Sequels that should never be...

That was a great scene. I love the second film because it adds a brilliant complexity to the plot, having McFly interact with himself from the previous film, the whole utopic "future" thing, the alternate 1985, and the almanac chase... I mean, how mainstream many films use alternate universes as a plot device? To me, comparing the BTTF 2 to BTTF 1 is like comparing Empire Strikes Back to Star Wars. And yes, part 3 feels like "ROTJ"...

One thing that really stood out for me was the look of abject terror on the faces of the people who were doing the cgi Yoda. They were kind of apprehensive about GL's reaction. Was like they were making a hostage tape, or something. The relief was palpable when he said he liked it. Was thinking maybe he locks them up somewhere if he doesn't like what they produce, or something.

I did see it, but not on the DVD. GL having the animators re-do the final line by Yoda over and over again. Well... I suppose the salary at ILM is good enough, or else they wouldn't be doing it.
