I never saw Ghost in the Shell 2, but I heard it's good...
Another DVD I'm looking for, but I haven't found yet: Naruto, the first movie.

LOL hahahahahah! Auscwhitz High?
OK if a school blocks the "TV turnoff week" website, labeling it "humour", there is something REALLY wrong going on over there... Chaltab, open that website on your home, print up some of the ads talking about TV turnoff week and put them at your school, maybe there's a post board where you can put those...? I'm just wondering for how long (and I mean seconds) they'll stay there

4)Granted, but text can't convey the same emotion. As Uma Thurman said in the Behind the Mic feature, Japanese speach has different vocal emotional paterns than English, so sometimes scenes feel off because of that difference.
Still, I like to listen in Japanese. I'm not attacking the original version, just defending the dubbing. What I'd like to know is why all anime even have to be dubbed? Most anime dub companies can't even find decent voices, so why not just show them in the original voices with subtitles? Wouldn't that be cheaper?
2- I thought you meant "the voices don't suck" to the japanese voice actors. I didn't notice you were refering specifically to the Nausicaa dub on that one.
4- Well it's merely a translation of what's being said. The emotion is on the actor's voice.
They usually dub because of market reasons, they usually target-audience animation to children, and they know for a fact that children do not (or sometimes cannot) read subtitles.

1) Patrick Stewart

3) They didn't change the music like stupid companies would have *cough4kidsandfunimationcough*
4) I can understand what people are saying.
I'm not against watching it in Japanese. Infact, I intend to over Spring Break next week. But I doubt my family would be too apreciative of that. They think me watching things in Japanese is weird period. I just meant it was weird that you only watch it in Japanese.
Actually, I have watch about the first half hour and bits and peices here and there in Japanese. I wanted to see if Disney changed anything.
Again, I just meant it was weird that you only watch it in Japanese.
1 & 3 - OK, but that's only for Nausicaa. Most of anime are dubbed by unknown, bad actors.
2- Jesus. If I was dead right now, I would spin on my grave! Don't say that to an anime fan, evern!
4- Uh there's this thing called subtitles...
I only watch it in japanese NOT because it's in japanese, but because I want to watch it the way it was made. For the same reasons I want the O-OT back, I want to watch my anime in japanese, with subtitles (one day I'll be able to watch without subtitles
In some rare, rare ocasions, the dubbing is actually very good (Neon Genesis Evangelion's brazillian version as an example), but still... I don't care if the actors in the dubbed version are better, I just want to see it the way it was originally broadcast - that's why I'm also figthing against the changed being made on the Evangelion episodes for the DVD releases...
BTW I have seen an episode of Dragon Ball Z dubbed in english, the way it was broadcast over there, and I felt like jumping out of the window... What was up with that uh... person doing Freeza's voice?!

I mean, it's not only anime, it's everything: I absolutely refuse to watch "Star Wars" dubbed, I want to hear the original soundtrack. As I'm in a forum filled with people who want GL to release the ORIGINAL theatrical versions on DVD, I'm sure people here understand my reasons.

I will say that I sensed some good old 'studio vs creator' tension with 'Hustle'; I can just hear the studio saying "More Matrix... More effects" and Chow thinking "More Looney Tunes... more sillyness... more heart". Trouble is, whenever that occurs the final product always suffers.
Exactly, I felt it too. Yet, Hustle's script felt like it had one too many drafts. Stephen Chow should have kept it simple, bad characters vs. good characters. I mean, look at Stephen Chow's character: you never know what side he is, what are his reasons to act like that, his whole "past" thing was too shallow - what was the thing between him and that girl? And the whole thing about him being a kung fu genius who SUDDENLY gets to be the best kung fu fighter in the world...
Stephen Chow was obviously trying to please the distributors, producers, to top "Shaolin Soccer", and to create a good film, at the same time. I'm not so sure he achieved it...
BTW, does every modern ocidental-styled kung fu film have a "one man against 100 black-dressed men kung fu fight"? Matrix, Kill Bill vol 1, and now this...?
I didn't see "Ong Bak", I might...

I think it's so ironic that Disney is distributing Studio Ghibli's animes in the USA... It's like their saying "We at Disney obviously lack the talent to create this animation masterpices, BUT we want to profit from them, so we will close up the ocidental market and only let them show their anime if we get to distribute it. Of course, only if we and our stock holders must agree with the message transmited by this anime..."

It's kinda sad how the Hong Kong film industry is changing itself to please ocidental audiences. Kung Fu movies were pieces of art, crafted by hand, with no computers or expensive special effects, and yet filling each frame of the film with pure art.
Jackie Chan had been criticised, and even clashed with some HK directors, because he didn't want any wire work or special effects in his action scenes. At first, I didn't understand why he didn't want any wire work - Jet Li used it in such films as "Tai Chi" and "Fong Sai Yuk" in a good way, improving the action scenes and making them more comical and enjoyable. But J.C. kept his movies simple, always with a good, simple story and with jaw-dropping action sequences, with no computers or wire work. I mean, watch the last fight in "Drunken Master 2" and you'll know what I mean.
But Jackie Chan knew what was going to happen: kung fu films would become a product. Now, with today's technology, anyone can be a kung fu master. Suddenly, the plot was forgotten, and the kung fu movies became a bunch of CGI-filled kung fu scenes with a dumb plot between those scenes. "Matrix" was the last nail on the coffin. Suddenly, the HK film industry had to keep up with the new trend...
Stephen Chow tried to make a good movie with Kung Fu Hustle, and you can feel he really wanted to. The scenes are beautiful to watch, the comedy is there (even though it's made for oriental audiences), the scenery is amazing, but there's something missing. The plot is confusing, a real mess, you never know what's motivating the characters...
The action sequences are good, quite good, although the CGI is a little weird looking, almost cheap. And, in order to keep up with this new trend on kung fu movies, Stephen Chow had to let the ancient kung fu art go, and stick with CGI fights... even though it is good to watch, and somewhat funny, it's not the same. It works when the film is spoofing this technique, as Stephen Chow did in his last movie - Shaolin Soccer - but it does not work when the action sequences are supposed to be real kung fu fights...
Well... all in all... Kung Fu Hustle is not a bad film. Not as good as Shaolin Soccer, not as good as many other HK films, but worth a watch. Who knows, you might enjoy it...
