There's been a rumor floating about for years that Ben and Owen are actually cousins or related in some other way, shape, or form. I've heard it many times. Even if this were not the case, I'm sure Owen and Beru have communications devices on the homestead. Ben or Bail or someone else may have contacted them ahead of time. Just because we don't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Actually, Padme told Obi-Wan (and everyone eventually knew) of what happened on Tatooine. Remember how Palpatine knew about the sand people incident?

But they also both said it had been a long time since they had been together and that it would have been even longer if he hadn't gone on this mission to save Palpatine. So, obviously, the conception happened during their last meeting which could have been any amount of time prior up to nine months taking into consideration that humans in this galaxy far, far away have a nine-month pregnancy term. Who really knows. She was showing when they met up by the landing platform.
Well, she didn't seem to be 5 or 6 months pregnant at all, not for someone carrying twins. It was more like 2 months. And then she delivers two huge twins which were obviously born at a 9 month pregancy. What gives? Well, probably the movie spans about 6 or 7 months.
And don't they have ultra-sonography in SW? She discovered she had twins at labor? And she DIES? What was that, they have a 1940s technology for delivering babies?

What I really really liked:
a) How the core plot is handled by the main actors. Kudos to Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Yoda (Frank Oz and Rob Coleman and his fantastic team of character modelers and animators) and last but not least Ian McDiarmid. These guys really deserve the main credit for me loving this film.
b) The final showdowns are some of the most intense ones in the entire prequel trilogy - not necessarily choreography-wise, it's hard to explain - the climactic nature really gets across because they really present a 'duel of the fates'. And yes the musical score may add a lot to that. *takes a deep bow before John Williams*. I agree with RRS that the Maul showdown remains the prequel fight with the best choreography.
c) The execution of "order sixtysix" really got under my skin. I hadn't expected that to happen in that special way. Kudos to George Lucas, I liked that one a lot - really gave me the creeps to see such a thing happen in such a radical way.
d) Cameo of Jett Lucas was awesome, usually I do not like that kind of stuff. A great last stand he fights there, he must have felt very honored to be allowed to do this scene.
e) The architecture of Utapau slightly resembling the area where Luke fought Vader on Bespin.
f) That it was unknown that there were twins and the fact that Vader kept the possible existence of a child secret from the emperor.
OK, about the good things...
a) I kinda agree, even though Ian McDiarmid was kinda lost. He felt like an "Animaniacs" villain, and he seemd to be having trouble with his voice. Sometimes he did it exactly as in ROTJ, sometimes he was just sounding weird. Ewan McGregor, on the other hand, was superb. Acting like that in a greenscreen is NOT easy, and he pulled it off brilliantly.
b) Hmn...
c) It was surprising, in the good way. I liked it very much.
d) Once again, surprising.
e) Hmn, sort of...
f) Yeah, it explains the new Emperor dialogue in TESB.

The first 20 minutes are very, very good. The first take, a 1-2 minutes long shot with no cuts, following Anakin's ship, was quite impressive, even though the battle was kinda confusing, too much things going on at the same time. Suddenly, they get into Grievious ship, the music stop, and some good Star Wars action begins. Elevators, gags that actually worked, a good cameo by Dooku, all to the landing of the ship, the movie looked great. Could it be? Could episode 3 be as good as the OT?
No. Suddenly, the movie comes to a sudden stop. The characters seem lost. Palpatine's decieving Anakin feels almost humorous. The movie feels rushed and boring AT THE SAME TIME! And suddenly, after a very disapointing fight with Grievious, and a very disapointing Mace Windu death, Anakin decides to "surrender" to Palpatine! What?!
Palpatine's voice seems to be changing on every single take... The Jedi's death was a bit surprising to me ("plan 66"? like that ed wood film?), I liked it, the clones betraying them. And then there's the Yoda fight - Palpatine is now looking like an "Animaniacs" villain! Padme's pregnancy seems rushed, was she like, 3 months pregnant? Obi-Wan's fight with Anakin was merely OK, although I enjoyed the final dialogue and seeing Anakin being toasted.
And when Anakin gets his suit, suddenly GL wants to end the film as SOON AS POSSIBLE! vader screaming "nooooo...!" felt like J.E.Jones WORST moment, you could FEEL he didn't care. And then, the final moment... Yoda talks to Obi-Wan about a Jedi who learned to retain his form after death, Qui Gon! So I was expecting Liam Neeson to make a cameo and explain everything. So, they cut to C3PO, and the... what?! Is it over?! NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED TO THE AUDIENCE! So, is that GL final "F*** YOU!" to his audience? His final joke? *sigh*
The twins are born, and Padme suddenly gives up and dies. She "gave up living"? What? This is Star Wars, they can make a cyborg such as Vader and can't keep a woman from dying at labor? And then, the film ends abruptly, with so many questions unanswered, with so much left loose...
The CGI was not that bad, but distracting - what was that Palpatine Matrix jump? The soundtrack was not impresive, with absolutely nothing new or with impact. Jonh Williams didn't care too...
Is it a bad film? No. It is watchable, it is enjoyable, the acting was not that bad (specially by Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman), it was entertaining and yes, better than AOTC. It's a movie I feel that non-SW fans can watch and possibly enjoy. the dialogue was not that painful, and even though it was rushed, you could feel GL tried...

I was pumped. I was open minded. But what the f***?
This film had many many problems. I had heard reports all week about "how it was the best of the prequels" (that's not saying much), how people liked it second to "Empire"???!!!
Was I at the right movie last night??
My reasons:
* the film was soooo rushed, especially Anakin's turning. One minute he has his lightsaber at Palpy's throat, the next he's cutting off Mace's hand and watching him float out a window saying "What have I done?" and seconds later he's nealing in front of Palpatine embracing the dark side and the Sith??!!! Just like that, your no longer a Jedi, you're a Sith and off he waltzes to do some bad shit.
Agree...
"What have I done... No! You are the dark lord of the Sith!"
"Oh shut up and be my aprentice, Darth Vader."
"Ok."
Quote
* R2 flying in AOTC was one thing, but shitting oil and lighting it on fire to get away from some battle droids??!! Sure.
It was ok...
Quote
* the editing was typical of Ben Burtt, cut and pasted like a f***ing novice.
Hmn, maybe.
Quote
* the use of new transition styles. What was with those checkerboard scene transitions???!!! They aren't in any of the other films but Lucas introduces them in the last film of the prequels???!!! Dumb.
So what? I don't care.
Quote
* the opening space battle- what an anti-climax! The whole scene did little to push the story along, more CG showing off. Stupid camera pans, having Anakin say the Solo line from ANH "This is where the fun begins". Please.
I liked the first 20 minutes, the best part of the whole prequel trilogy.
Quote
* And the biggest thing....NO EXPLANATION OF DISAPPEARING JEDI!!!! Grrrrr that made me so angry. Its like George got to the end of the script and then forgot this part. Oh, its ok, we can have Yoda tell Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon has returned from the "nether world". A one sentence f***ing answer!!!!
AGREE!
"OK, now I will explain you HOW Jedi remain with the force."
CUT TO C3PO
"And that's how..."
"Amazing, Master Yoda!"
WTF? Anti-climax!
Quote
* many more bad ideas, Griveous, completely unneccessary and a stupid character at that; Obi-Wan riding a giant lizard. Pointless.
Why the hell was Grievious COUGHING?!
Quote
This film and I guess the prequels in general had so much potential, but alas, George has failed again in my opinion. The prequels really should be shelved under "shit house" in the video store section.
No repeat viewings for me.
Lets hope the Ep3 DVD can fix up a lot of the problems this film had.
There will be repeated views for me, not this week though.
More:
* Vader: WTF?! Is that it? "Noooo......" (JE Jones dosent CARE)
* Padme dying... WTF was that?!
* The acting... Jesus... apart from Obi-Wan of course.
There are good things about it, which I'll go on later, I'm to freaking tired.
Apart from all the terrible mistakes, it is the best (should I say, less worst) film of the prequels. Slightly better than AOTC.

You could organize a "nintendo party" in your home town and play wireless multiplayer games through the download system. Although, when the internet system is available, I'll challenge you to some games!

The internet network is not online yet, but you can play with wi-fi already, if you happen to be 30 yards from someone with DS...
I didn't care so much about games, I had huge expectations for the new consoles on E3 this year, unfortunally it has been a real let down. It's that what they have to offer? A slightly more powerful hardware? *sigh*

By the way I attended this "Wi-Fi LAN party" with Nintendo DS this last weekend, the wireless multiplayer feature worked great.

That's what I said. The DVDs were made for 16x9 TVs - not using the original aspect ratio of the movies. These DVDs are a type of 16x9 full screen transfer - a 16x9 pan\scan version to fill a 16x9 TV screen.
I checked the DVD box while at the store the other day. It does say it is enhanced for 16x9 TVs. It does not claim to respresent the original aspect ratio.
Slade, the DVDs I've seen, on a 16x9 TV, were not "16x9 pan scanned". You still get black bars on top and bottom (small ones), and the film mantains it's 1:2.35 ratio. So it's ont like they cropped this part of the frame for it to fit into a 16x9...
