Batman Begins

I don't understand what you guys saw in that movie! Yes Batman Returns is kinda crappy, but it's better than Begins - which is way better than both Schumacker's. I just thought it was a mediocre/bad film... Not that well written, confusing - feels like there's 1 hour of plot cut from the film - with not-so-great acting, unnecessary and badly written comedy bits ("nice coat"), BAD character development... It's a huge mess... But oh well, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I didn't. The batman series died in 1995.

*** SPOILERS AHEAD ***

Well, I didn't like it. Maybe it's because I've always had Tim Buryon's Gothan city in my mind, with it's bleak, gothic visual and it's Prince-related soundtrack. The 1989 Batman IS the best Batman film, and "Begins" dosen't get any close to that.

Batman is onscreen for what, 10 to 15 minutes?

The only interesting character, the scarecrow, which looked like the best and most well-constructed Batman villain since Jack Nicholson's Joker simply vanishes without making an impact. And his "death" (he didn't die, did he) was absolutely ridiculous, a shock gun? What was that all about?

Michael Cane, Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson are on "Automatic Pilot I Need the Money" acting style, so...

Too much time is spent on Bruce Wayne's conflictive character (is he an asshole or a good guy? can't tell...), showing him buying hotels with personal checks and ridiculously fearing bats, and the whole villanously plot is shown in a fast, confusing way.

The whole plot twist about Liam being Ra's al whatever is predictable and not enough to give the character any depth. It's basically Liam Neeson character from "Kingdom of Heavan" with a Flash Gordon villain mentality.

I know this movie is not related to Burton's or Schumacker's movies, but here's how I would rank them (1 is better)

1- Batman (1989)
2- Batman Returns
3- Batman Begins

50- Batman Forever

99999- Batman & Robin

That would be great to say with some friends at a pub, and after it everyone takes their beer.

The Batman series was a real hit over here too. I watched its reruns as a kid during the late 80s.

In 1980 these 2 friends (probably 17 or 18 years old at the time) taped a Batman episode and dubbed their own voices over the episode, filling it with hilarious dialogue (mostly cursing, but in a funny way) - like "whats up tiger lily" or "kung pow", only 1000 times funnier. The tape circulated though copies and got a cult status in the 80s and 90s. Recently, a bootleg DVD was made of the dubbed episode, with the sound cleaned and using recently restored footage of the episode.

Anyway guys, I highly recommend you visit Europe, any travelling opens your mind to so many things, it's great. What Shimraa said about it making you a better person is so true.
P.S Glad to hear that you guys actually know what the world cup is!!! Most Americans I have spoken to didn't even know the US had a football team (and one that done quite well in the last world cup may I add).
P.P.S Be sure to call it football and not 'Soccer' if you come to England. Everyone will laugh at you.

Well, be glad you don't live in south america, we are one HUGE dumb steriotype. People tend to think we are all spanish-speaking indians who either live in jungles or on the beach doing carnaval all day long. Sometimes the misinformation gets really bizarre, like one day there was a brazillian news reporter on an american prison, and he was talking to the prisoners and some of them thought Brazil was in middle east. Some years ago there were americans who came to São Paulo, probably the 4th or 5th biggest city in the world, #3 or 4 in population, dressed with this weird jungle-like clothes, with nets and stuff, thinking they would come to a jungle or something... No, the capital of Brazil is NOT rio de janeiro (it's brasilia), and NEVER, EVER say the capital of Brazil is "Buenos Aires" (as Ronald Reagan said multiple times), you WILL get you ass kicked if you say that over here, that's one of the most offensive things you could say.

And yes for Christ sake don't call football "soccer" outside america or you will be ridiculed.

Hey Yoda: Do you remember the game brazil x england on 2002 world cup?
Swear to God that was the best football match ever.

It actually has more alcohool than regular beer. I'm known for not being able to drink, so when I drink Smirnoff Ice, they all say to me "Uh Ric are you SURE you wanna drink that?". So it's not really a "sissy drink".

Have you ever tried to drink this thing called "Aftershock"?

Noooo! Please! Don't say that! Now GL is going to alter that scene and put on some rockets on R2!

Mark Hammil looks OK, he could play an old Luke Skywalker with no problems. Harrisson Ford is not that bad, if he shaves and dyes his hair he could be a belivable Solo (not Indy, though).

Now, Carrie Fisher... Well, uh, what can I say? She could play a Hutt or something?

Now, I'm just kidding. Ms Fisher if you're reading this, don't be offended, you look just fine.

Try Smirnoff Ice whenever you feel like trying something with alcohool. It dosen't have that strong alcohoolic taste, it taste like a lemon soda. It's the only alcohoolic beverage I can drink - apart from champagne in festive ocasions of course.

And if you ever come to brazil try drinking "Guaraná", it's a regular non-alcohoolic soda, but it tastes much better than coke or pepsi. There was this australian student living with my cousins for 6 months, and when she returned to Australia she had to take 2 bottles of it because she would miss guaraná so much.

I like it. We should also assign post levels...

Youngling 0-249
Padawan 250-999
Ready for the Trials 1000-2499
Jedi Knight 2500-4999
Jedi Master 5000-9999
Jedi Spirit 10000-19999
The Chosen One 20000+ (only to first obtainer; subsequent members would be "Another Chosen One")

How's that sound?

I think there should be an extra, teorically impossible to get level, at, let's say, 99999999999, just for the fun of it.

Which I have a ticket for!

You do, really? I would cut my left arm off just to see that show, even though it's only for 30 minutes... Unless Roger gives the back to the band, plays along throughout the show, and gets out of the stage without even smiling to the band, that would suck.

I'll see the "Australian Pink Floyd" tomorrow. Not the same, but still... As close as I will ever get to a real Pink Floyd concert...

Well, if "Return of the Jedi" would not have a certain duality in it's meaning, I would fully agree with you. Alas, I always deemed it very cool that you could actually interprete the film title in two ways: You could either say the Jedi as an institution/religion have returned, but you could also say that anakin - the jedi - returns.

In portuguese, the word "the" can be translated as "o", "a", "os" or "as", determining gender and number (singular/plural). The movie's title is "O retorno de Jedi", using "de" makes it somewhat ambiguous (like "return of jedi"), but it's more likely to mean "return of a singular Jedi". So yes, it could be Anakin's return...

For "Revenge of the Sith", the title was translated as "A vingança dos sith", which clearly means "revenge of the (many) sith". So it's not Palpatine's revenge, it's THEIR revenge.
