I have not changed my tune at all.  I am still against it.  I don't know how much clearer I can make that.  I don't think it's necessary, and I personally don't believe it's right to alter stuff like this, no matter the reason.  That does not mean that I'm saying that you cannot enjoy it.  And if the originals were included with this release (like, for example, the TOS Blu-rays), then I would not be expressing much concern.

I FULLY and I mean FULLY agree. While I can "tolerate" the new effects (because the reword will be the highly improved color balance and resolution), but I would prefer if they use the old effects "somehow". But if they won't, I won't kill myself :-)

I used to think the KCCI version was the best, but Zions version is definitely better, actually way better to me, I just looked it over yesterday, Zion did a great job on this release, and I agree with him that this is probably the best this will ever be.

I don't think Zion's version has ever made it to the 'Spleen...maybe it's about time it did.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I have also never before realised that you can see the camera crew in Vader's "eyes" :-) The detail level is incredible, I don't remember seeing that much detail (I have watched only the bonus discs of the BR release yet) .

The walls of Tantive 4 have a different colour every time you change the camera angle, but they were never really "correct" in any official release.

There are some audio problems with 3PO's lines - We seemed to be made to suffer ...

It's incredible to see that the "Look sir droids" stormtrooper has only 2 eyes :-)

There are many small colour problems, and I would saturate many of the scenes more, but overall I LOVE it :-)

Well I'm watching it right now and there are a few color problems which are VERY notable.

The main problem are the "black" borders. The problem is that they're not BLACK :-) They change color from scene to scene.  Go to the scene where the stormtroopers invade the blockage runner and when the first one shoots. I expected the frame be white with black borders, instead of it it's pink with red/brown borders :-) And later the color of the borders changes with every scene change, for example every time you cut to the camera angle where the stormtroopers come through the heavy smoke, the borders are lightgrey etc.

Is it possible for you to work only with the "video area" and add the borders at the end ?

Deleting specific frames with avisynth
Time

I have a video - a DVD transfer of a 8mm silent audience film of a rock concert. I have noticed that the frame structure is pretty strange, you have 3 or 4 progressive frames followed by one frame, which is a "combination" of the frame before and the frame after.

E.g.  frame 363 is a "normal" progressive frame, frame 364 is a "normal" progressive frame, frame 365 is a combination of frames 364 and 366, frame 366 is again a "normal" progressive frame.

The list of the "garbage" frames is pretty repeatable :

365 369 372 375 378 381 384 388 391 395 398 401
405 408 412 415 418 422 425 428 432 435 438 441
445 448 452 455 458 461 465 468 471 474 478 481
485 488 491 495 498 501 505 508 511 515 518 521
525 528 532 535 538 541 545 548 551 554 558 561
564 568 571 574 578 581 584 588 591 595 598 601

etc.

The concert footage starts with frame 361, frames 0-360 are just the "intro" (not sure what's the correct english word).

I am looking for an automatic way (e.g. AviSynth) to do "something" with these frames, at least deleting them.  The video is PAL, 25 progressive frames per second.

Any help ?

OFF TOPIC...

This isn't the appropriate group to pose the specific question, except that it's the group I'd like eventually to share with. I've been compiling the bits and pieces for years now, pulling from a variety of web sites and videos, and I keep planning to create a disk of SWHS bonus material.

What holds me back is that a few of the sources are widescreen. The Special was 4:3, and so is most of what's out there that refers to it, which means that this will be a 4:3 disc. But the several DVD programs I've experimented with take those widescreen images and stretch them vertically. Harrison Ford and Conan O'Brien look more than a little strange.

Are there simple ways to reframe the widescreen video as letterboxed 4:3 video?

Edit : Sorry, I didn't realize you want to do the direct opposite of what I originally thought :-(
