I could never understand the hatred of Enterprise, and usually by the same people who say things like “Voyager is my favourite Trek show”. I truly liked the first three seasons, hated the last one, which interestingly enough seems to be the favourite season of most people.

Well this sounds pretty hate-worthy to me…

The first couple seasons kind of creep me out, it always felt like the focus was what compromising situation can we put T’Pol in this week?

I honestly don’t really remember anything like that, there were a few cringe-worthy decontamination scenes, there was just one episode where T’Pol was horny and tried to get somebody to f her, but that’s all I can remember.

Well, part of the problem is I don’t really know how my computer works!! For example, in the instructions to download the rapid downloader it says not to save it under program files because this might affect other plug ins or updates… so…could I save it to desktop? Would that be “safe”?

I assume you are on Windows. Depending on your version / config the “Program Files” folder(s) can be “write protected”, so updates COULD have problems. The solution is simple, install it somewhere else, e.g. “C:\Programs”.

See, I haven’t even got to downloading a film and I’m stuck! I told you I was IT useless!

You remind me on my dead mother. “I don’t know how it works and I don’t want to learn it” 😃

But, ni, pittrek, I don’t “need” the discs…I would be quite happy watching them via a USB (I have a portable 1TB HDD actually with some avchd files on it from my camera which I can plug into my blu ray player or tv via a usb port).

Again, I suspect I could just download the avchd versions of despecialized (?) as I have read on here on the forums they are smaller files but little loss in quality?

Sure, if AVCHD is good enough for you, you can download these versions, they’re smaller. I never downloaded them since I have no equipment for playing the format, so I can’t comment on the quality.

Any help would be fab!

The same goes for The Motion Picture, which is one of my favourite movies of all times, but most people seem to hate it 😃

Hi Ed, do you need the discs? Are the mkv files not good enough? Most of the modern TVs shouldn’t have any problem playing the files. If the mkv files would be enough for you, all you need is jDownloader2 (downloaded from their official website, some “special” websites offer it for download too but several people have reported that they add adware to it) or maybe better Free Rapid Downloader, enough patience (it can take a few days depending on your speed), and this step-by-step guide : https://goo.gl/1WGHBA

Weird to say someone is “no Feige” when Feige is one of the few who’s even attempted it so far and had done nothing prior to it that would’ve suggested he could.

That being said, Kurtzman did kill the “Dark Universe,” so maybe there is a point there.

Correct. We know he tried and failed. The only question is if the failure of the Mummy and therefore of Dark Universe is ONLY his fault or if the studio interfered too much

Should I try watching Discovery? I’ve heard the most horrid things, and I’m a huge fan of TOS.

An opinion of a TOS fan.
Discovery is a really good generic action sci-fi show.
Discovery is a horrible star Trek show.

If you can switch your brain into a “this is not Star Trek” mode, you will probably enjoy it. If you care about canon, you probably won’t

I then used the colormatching results and Neverar’s Technicolor Recreation as color references and made a correction for the scan that’s most likely innacurate, but derives from good intention–and boy is this thing CLEAN. Thank you poita!

Who came out with the claim that she was harassed? I can’t find her statement on it anywhere, only articles based on speculations. But if it’s true, I fully agree - I think TLJ is the worst Star Wars movie (yes, I think the prequels are better), but I would NEVER EVER go and attack (physically or verbally) anybody involved with the production, that’s just really, really dumb. What happened to the good old “vote with your wallet” thing? AKA “if you don’t like it, don’t buy it”? That’s the only reasonable approach in my not so humble opinion, going after somebody makes you look like a lunatic

A few questions after I could think about the movie for a few hours

  • why are all white men in this movie crazy or evil or crazy AND evil?
  • why are crazy women in charge of the military? Don’t they have somebody like Mon Mothma? If they want to have a female military leader, why not somebody who knows what she’s doing?
  • where are all the attractive women?
  • why are capitalists portrayed as the true criminals?
  • why did they suggest that Rey’s parents were important in the last movie but made to be some random nobodies in this one?
  • who are the First Order? What power do they have? How did they get the power? Who is financing them? I asked the same question 2 years ago, I still don’t understand who’s who
  • who was Snoke? How did he get to power? Why did he have force powers? How did he know all about the Jedi, the Sith and the Skywalkers?
  • why was that dumb Asian woman or girl (can’t really tell her age, I thought it’s a little boy until she started speaking) in the movie? Why was she so stupid? Was she supposed to be a comic relief character? Why did she prohibit Finn from having a heroic death? Were they supposed to have a romantic relationship? Why didn’t they show it?
  • why did Finn and that dumb Asian woman go on a 30 minutes long side mission which lead nowhere and was a complete waste of time?
  • why did Finn fight that glossy armor woman? Was it the same glossy armor woman as in the previous movie? What was the point of this and basically 99% of Finn’s scenes?
  • Why is Leia now Superman?
  • Why didn’t Luke go personally to confront Darth Vader Junior?
  • Why did Luke die? Especially in such a stupid and confusing way?
  • Why was Yoda in this movie? Why is he acting as his stupid self from the beginning of Empire, where he PRETENDED he is stupid to test Luke? Why does he have the power to call lighting? Why did he prevent Luke from burning down the thing by burning down the thing himself?

Seriously, the whole movie was a giant WTF. Everything felt so forced and pointless. At least it looked beautiful.

the ‘dumb Asian woman’ whom you refer to has had enough of stuff like that I suppose?

The “dumb Asian woman” comment was pretty rude from me, I agree, but it was about the character, NOT about the actress. That’s what I’m talking about, there is a pretty big difference between being angry at a movie and “going after” people involved with its production, whether it’s the actors or somebody working behind the camera.

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

I love watching the Holiday Special, when I’m in a “special mood”, for example too drunk to do anything useful and not drunk enough to want to sleep.
I have seen The Last Jedi exactly once. I tried to watch it for the second time a few weeks ago but I gave up after a few minutes, I just can’t bring myself to watch it for the second time. And I can’t watch till Solo comes out on Blu-ray so that I can watch it for the second time.

97SE... how were the negatives assembled?
Time

1080p. NOT 2K.

The original negatives were disassembled, physically cleaned up and the shots which had CGI changed planned were scanned in 1080p and after they were changed they were printed back on 35mm film. So they ended up with shots coming straight from the original negatives, new shots which were a combination of the scanned original negatives and CGI additions, and new shots featuring new optically re-created dissolves by Pacific Tiles. These 3 types of shots were edited together and new “special edition negatives” were created. These were source of the 1997 SE and subsequent home video releases. These “special edition negatives” were scanned again in 1080p, digitally re-timed by a random color generator also known as a professional colorist, and these 1080p scans as a frame sequence were shipped to Lowry Digital. Lowry cleaned it up and sent back to Lucasfilm, were a new 1080p “digital negative” was created. These “digital negatives” were source of the 2004 DVDs and subsequent HDTV broadcasts. These “digital negatives” were then changed even more, colors were corrected, but ONLY in the scenes which fans complained about, and these corrected version was released in 1080p on Blu-ray

Yeah I’ve heard people say it bombed… But isnt it the number one movie right now? Didn’t meet expectations sure, but bomb?

Because right now it is a bomb. Everything which makes less than cca 2.5 * budget is considered a bomb. The budget was 250 millions USD, which means the total costs were something around 700 millions. Right now it made cca 197 millions worldwide. It will make nothing more in the world’s biggest market - China, it is already out of the cinemas in most European countries, so only home video sales might help it at least break even, even though I doubt it
