STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

I think you should go back and watch the first couple seasons of the Clone Wars. Far more kiddy than Rebels has ever approached. It wasn’t until the later seasons that they got away from themselves with how dark it got. It was good but it wasn’t true to what the heart of the franchise is.

Rebels was designed from the ground up to emulate the same kind of adventure romp that Star Wars was. Now they’re slowly working their way toward an ESB vibe.

I mean we’ve seen countless deaths in CW, but I can’t remember one death from Rebels, even the Inquisitor’s death was only “hinted” and not shown

Countless Stormtroopers have bitten the dust at the hands of our heroes. Including that poor fellow who Kallus kicked to his doom off a cliff. Then there was the execution of those two officers by the order of Tarkin. This season has seen the loss of fighters and a frigate on the Rebel side.

But the second season ? I still haven’t seen an episode of the second season which I would consider to be at least “good”.

You didn’t consider the wrath of Darth Vader in the season opener good? Nor the epic clash between an outmatched AT-TE and an AT-AT? You must have some crazy standards.

Nope. I thought it was boring to be honest.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

Clone Wars was for teens and adults, Rebels is for children. Unfortunately. I must admit I really liked the first season, even when I thought it’s not going far enough (I mean we’ve seen countless deaths in CW, but I can’t remember one death from Rebels, even the Inquisitor’s death was only “hinted” and not shown), the animation was too “disneyfied” and Ezra looked like Aladin, and Kanan looks like Shaggy from the Scooby Doo cartoons. But the second season ? I still haven’t seen an episode of the second season which I would consider to be at least “good”.

Seamless branching?
Time

It really depends on what software are you using. Years ago I used Mediachance DVDLab Pro, that one was capable of doing it.

The basic principles :

 • you need one “main movie”
 • every alternate / extended scene should be encoded as a separate movie
 • the main movie must have I frames put into exactly the frames which you will use as “branching points”, so you must use a mpeg2 encoder which allows you to do this. If you don’t put the “branching points” on I-frames, the branching will not be 100% seamless
 • The main movie has to be split into chapters correctly.
 • the last step will have to be the correct playlists in your DVD authoring software, so each movie version will have its own playlist.

Episode II has the best story of the prequels. Discuss.
Time

Episode 1 is stupid, I STILL have no clue what happened in that movie, it’s just a series of colourful moving images. But JW’s score is wonderful.

Episode 3 is horrible. Everything about it is horrible. The effects, the acting, the story, the editing… I have no idea how can anybody say it’s the best one, but I accept that people have different tastes. I mean I know quite intelligent people who like JJTrek and the Transformers movies 😃

Episode 2 is pretty dumb too, but to be honest it was the only prequel I enjoyed when I’ve seen it for the first time. It had some really great action ( I STILL love the arena sequence - at least before the other Jedi come there), but the story is not very well thought out and poorly executed. The Padme / Anakin storyline is just a wasted opportunity. Wouldn’t it be so much better if Lucas did something similar as Cameron did with his Kyle Reese / Sarah Connor storyline? The story is basically the same - a crazy killer wants to kill the hot chick, the soldier protects her and falls in love with her.

Anyway, all 3 movies are stupid, but Episode 2 has probably the best story.

…Take the fact that most stormtroopers are human in The Force Awakens. Did the clones expire after a while?

The troops in the OT are human too. They all have different voices and heights.
I dunno what happened to the clones. I’m not into the PT or EU.

It was explained in Rebels, which is apparently canon.

Streaming TV signal to Android devices?
Time

I have a dumb little technical question.

I have

- a cable connection

- 1 HDTV

- 1 external TV tuner (DVB-T/DVB-T2/DVB-C)

- 1 HTPC without monitor, connected to the HDTV

- 1 main PC (Windows 8.1) without any TV tuner

- several Android devices (tablets / smartphones)

- home wi-fi

I am searching for a way, how to "stream" the TV signal across any of the devices. E.g. I want to be able to watch TV either on my PC or any of the Android devices.

Any idea HOW?

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Oh, the trailer...

Things I liked - the camera work. The sets. The costumes. The music.

Things I hated - the CGI ships. I don't know why but I think CG looks worse and worse in each movie (not just SW). The overall "feel" of the trailer - it "felt" like a random action movie.

The rest - I don't care about right now.

Star Wars GOUT in HD using super resolution algorithm (* unfinished project *)

Harmy, I don't think they particularly cared about such a tiny data loss. The entire way they released it shows a complete lack of caring for quality. NTSC native resolution is 640x480, so they resized it anyway.

Which NTSC tape format has a native resolution of 640x480?

He probably meant that 480 * (4/3) = 640

Info: In search of the correct colors for ANH...
Time

Again, Lowry didn't change the colors (I refuse to use the word "correct") - why do so many people think they had something to do with it ? - and they didn't scan it. They received the 1997 SE "negatives" scanned as a series of 1080p pictures.

Maybe this would be helpful ? http://web.archive.org/web/20140528152100/http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html

Time

In this subforum : http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/forum.cfm/Star-Wars-Preservations-and-Other-Fan-Projects/forum/17/ you can find tons of different preservations and re-creations.

These are some random threads I found :

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Krieg-der-Sterne-Despecialized-Edition-25-German/topic/15914/

I do have a feeling somebody did create a 97 version of the first movie, just check the forum and you'll definitely find "something"

...so the Netflix version has fixes not in the blu-ray?

Well, guess somebody has to rip the netflix version and make a hybrid of certain episodes, considering that the Blu-Ray looks better overall.

Exactly what I'd do if I did live in a Netflix country :-(
And I'd love to see what else did they change, the trekcore article is pretty old, and it was written before all of the seasons were on Netflix.
