here’s my system

  1. if it was made in the last ten years, it probably sucks.

  2. if it’s getting rave reviews and I’m seeing posters at walmart, it probably sucks.

  3. if it was directed by jj abrams, I KNOW IT SUCKS.

  4. if its a remake of something good, see number 3.

I thought that JJ Abrams did a pretty good job with TFA and the first Star Trek.

Star Trek 09 sucked, but not because of JJ. If the movie had a decent script it could be tolerable.
The Force Awakens is good, mainly because the story is a carbon copy of Star Wars.

Wahoo! I found the solution to the subtitle problem: Convert the srt from 23.976fps to 24fps in Jubler, then use Lemony to create the BDN. Edit the XML to set the framerate back to 23.976 and import as non-drop. Then subs remain in sync to the end. Rinse and repeat for all languages. We’re back in business people!

Fantastic! Does it mean that those of us who didn’t download the previous version yet can wait a few days for the fixed version?

They are not all shit, only about 95% of them.

Actually, I would say that the majority of them are not shit. The majority really are subtle little things like removal of matte lines, cleaned up effects, subtle enhancements like the Cloud City Windows, continuity fixes, etc. If that was all the Special Editions were I would be all for them, but the minority of changes that are big and noticeable are unfortunately so bad that they simply can’t be ignored.

Well, no. Not at all. I don’t remember any removed matte line in the whole trilogy. If you mean garbage mattes, only a few of them were removed, some of them were actually made MORE visible. Removing walls of Cloud City corridors and replacing them with CG environment is not my definition of “subtle”. Continuity fixes? Where? I only know about new continuity errors which were created for each new version.

Is there any official official statement from the crew about the reshoots?

Why should there be?

What are the reshoots going to do?

Reshoot the scenes which are not considered good enough and shoot new scenes which they found out they will need during the editing of the movie.

Seriously people, reshoots are a normal part of post-production of basically every movie.

When you were introduced to Star Wars for the first time
Time

Sometimes in the 80’s a friend of mine came to me with “Hey, you like movies with robots and space ships? I have a movie which you might like” and we went to his place and watched together Star Wars, a millionth generation VHS copy. If I remember it correctly it was in German with Polish “lektor” voiceover track or something like that. I didn’t speak any of those languages, and the VHS was such a high copy that in some scenes I could barely see what’s going on, but I absolutely loved everything I’ve seen, I could understand what was going on purely by visual storytelling.

Later in early 90’s I’ve seen the whole trilogy numerous times on TV in various countries and various dubs, I even bought some 90’s VHS releases. Then in 1997 I’ve seen the special editions, bought THOSE on VHS, then I bought the 2004 DVDs and then my hunt for a digital release of the OOT began.
