RIP Mr. Garibaldi
RIP Mr. Garibaldi
Started TNG last night after years of procrastination. It’s going to be an uphill battle getting used to this crew; right now Trek without Spock feels deeply wrong on an emotional level. I’m interested enough to keep at it, though, and hopefully after a few more episodes I’ll be invested enough that I won’t be so preoccupied with how much I miss my buddies from TOS. I love Picard, Riker, Dr. Crusher, and Geordie, I think Deanna Troi and Wesley totally suck, I’m ambivalent about Data, and I haven’t seen enough of Worf to have much of an opinion yet. I also don’t feel strongly about Tasha Yar, but I’m spoiled enough to know that that’s not going to matter for long.
First 2 seasons are pretty week, but it gets drastically better during the third season as soon as Mike Piller took over the writing team. Also Worf got much more developed after he became the chief of security
I was really looking forward to the automatic tool with no references. I know it isn’t always perfect but from what you have shown, I was very excited about its capabilities. There are many orange and teal and other things I wanted to try it on. Are you still planning to release it? I have tried using the color matching tool and it can be awesome, but takes a lot of time and effort to get it right. Thanks!
I agree. I have a couple of private 8mm films on which I wanted to test it, it would be great if Dr.Dre could release it “as is”
Correct
My understanding was the original audio was simply lost over time. Of course, all the missing color footage cut when they made The Menagerie version eventually turned up, so anything is possible.
A full audio recording (recording during a public broadcast of the 16mm version) exists, I’m trying to get my hands on it.
And no, not all color footage turned up, or at least was used for any of the restorations. Which was a big surprise to me, they didn’t even use all of the Menagerie footage for the restored versions
Yes, that would indeed be great!
So, a new box set of TOS deleted scenes, new box set of TOS, TAS and TOS movies, new books, and a new TV show. My poor credit card…
Fuck me, what a day to be a Star Trek fan today is 😃))

I absolutely LOVE the fact that they used the Phase II Enterprise as the inspiraction for the USS Destiny
Guys, I think I like The Final Frontier. I don’t think I’d ever made it past the half-hour mark before today without bailing, but I was really into it this time around, especially once Sybok really got going. I wouldn’t call it a good movie, but there’s a lot going on in there that I find really interesting.
I think the movie could be saved by a complete re-edit and new effects. I like was Shatner was trying to do, and you can clearly see they ran out of money
I like it, but how faithful is it to the original intended look?
It looks like if you go with DVDs for TOS, you’re getting either the original or remastered (i.e. enhanced effects) versions, but not both. The blu-rays, on the other hand, give you the option to watch each episode with original or enhanced effects.
Correct. However only the full season Blu-rays have both versions, the various re-releases which have only a few selected TOS episodes all have only the version with the new CGI effects.
I would start with TOS. If you don’t want to watch all 79 episodes (most of the episodes of season 3 are not recommended to watch), check some fan site for ratings and watch only the “good” ones.
Then you can watch TAS. Some of the episodes are good, but most of them are very childish so you can skip the whole show if you want.
Then the first 6 feature films.
I personally love the first one, but many people would say it’s boring, and the events which happened during this movie are not referenced anywhere, so you can skip it if you want. Movies 2,3, and 4 are essential (and really, really good), the 5th - well, you probably won’t be able to enjoy it sober, the 6th one is like the 1st one - I think it’s great, but many people don’t like it for some reason.
Then go with TNG. Most of the episode from the first 2 seasons are pretty dumb and they feel unfinished, so again just like TOS, if you don’t want to watch all of them just check some fan site for ratings and watch only “good” ones. Seasons 3-6 are very strong, there are only a very small number of weak episodes. TNG season 6 happens at the same time as DS9 season 1, TNG season 7 happens at the same time as DS9 season 2.
The first 2-3 seasons of DS9 are pretty boring, but it gets much better as soon as the Dominion storyline starts.
Voyager sucks, and I personally wouldn’t recommend it, but again, there are many people who say it’s their favourite Trek show, so…
Enterprise - I love the first 3 seasons and hate the 4th. Many people however hate the first 3 seasons and say that the show started to get good during the 4th one 😃
TNG movies are really bad (except for First Contact), so watch them only if you want and you can watch them any time after TNG ends, only Nemesis takes place after Voyager ends.
JJ movies - I would recommend them at the very end, one story line begins long after the events of Voyager or Nemesis, and then they go back to TOS era.
A very, very stupid questions - with “Vengeance” they mean vengeance or is that some Marvel character?
I still need to buy a new working VCR and they now do this???
I’m giving another shot at posting since my connection is kinda sketchy and can’t edit my post.
What I was going to say is I want the 16mm mono mix of The Empire Strikes Back included.
Maybe you can remove an audio track to make more room.
I think you can remove the Slovak audio but it’s just a suggestion.
Sorry for posting Markdown Syntax.
HEY! Why Slovak ? 😃
Looking great so far. The people who did the Ghostbusters trailers should learn from these Marvel guys!
Funny. I thought it was released ONLY on DVD
<deleted>
<deleted>
But I don’t agree about TNG. There are many episodes which are simply dumb, but I don’t remember a BORING episode.
Funny, I think that’s one of the best episodes of the first season.
G’Kar is sourced from a German TV broadcast, TB is sourced from a French(?) TV broadcast
I still think we’re gonna get the OOT released next year, or after the new trilogy gets released
Star Wars destroys Star Trek. TNG never fails to puts me to sleep, and TOS is campy as hell. Never even seen the others. Frankly, and I’m sure I would be shot by Trekkies for saying this, the first time I’ve genuinely enjoyed Trek is the JJ movies. Sue me.
How DARE you? How dare you to have a different opinion than millions of other people? Don’t you know that in this modern era you’re supposed to like everything that other people like?
Seriously, yes, TOS is campy as hell and that’s just one of the many reasons it’s great. But I don’t agree about TNG. There are many episodes which are simply dumb, but I don’t remember a BORING episode. JJ movies are dumb AND boring for me 😃
Cartoons made by people lower on the food chain and mostly watched by kids don’t tell us anything. We’re talking about a cartoon that resurrected Darth Maul FFS. And TCW was not made by Lucas directly anyway (he probably had about as much to do with most of it as he did with TFA), plus it was generally better received than the prequels themselves. The fact that Disney has referenced it tells us nothing at all about the possibility of an OUT release.
Actually he was involved with every bit.
