POLITICS ALERT

I always am amazed at how many white people think they know what minorities should or shouldn’t think about a given subject.

as with any other people, all one can do is try as best he/she can to imagine being in the shoes of the other person. It is not the same as actually being in the other person’s shoes, but it is the best they can.

Saying minorities should or should not care about something is the opposite of trying to imagine being in their shoes. It’s trying to force them into your shoes.

but is that what pittrek did? He just said what he would think about someone if he were a minority. That is hardly trying tp force the minorities into pittrek’s shoes

It’s more the “NO STAR TREK FAN CARES about the skin colour of the main protagonist” part that’s upsetting. Because a lot of them do.

Upsetting? Really?

Soooooo…

  • a gay character? Sounds OK if they will make it interesting.
  • a female lead? Sounds OK if they make her interesting.
  • thinking about how “diverse” she should be? If I was “non-white” I would probably find it offensive.

why? what would you be offended about?

Now this will be a bit problematic to explain for me in English but basically I believe all people should be judged not by their race / gender / age / sexual orientation … but by what they can bring to the society.

NO STAR TREK FAN CARES about the skin colour of the main protagonist. We want a good actress playing a well written character! Thinks like gender / race / sexual orientation should NOT be the “defining attributes” of a character

I don’t remember race being the defining attribute of Sisko or gender being the defining attribute of Janeway.

  • making it serialized instead of episodic - I don’t know what to think yet. The Star Trek format has been always episodic,

Deep Space Nine turned from being episodic to serialized, but I would prefer episodic.

  • forcing me to get Netflix ONLY for this - I hate you for this.

ditto.

I agree

Yay, more rankings!

  1. Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan
  2. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
  3. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
  4. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
  5. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (better than VI, if viewing TM2YC’s wonderful Reunion edit)
  6. Star Trek Beyond
  7. Star Trek '09
  8. Star Trek: Into Darkness
  9. Star Trek: Generations
  10. Star Trek: Insurrection
  11. Star Trek: First Contact (yes, that low.)
  12. Star Trek: Nemesis

Right now, after watching the 12 movies as a preparation for my next week’s viewing of Beyond …

Star Trek: The Motion Picture - 8/10
Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan - 10/10
Star Trek III : The Search For Spock - 4/10
Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home - 10/10
Star Trek V : The Final Frontier - 4/10
Star Trek VI : The Undiscovered Country - 9/10
Star Trek Generations - 3/10
Star Trek : First Contact - 8/10
Star Trek : Insurrection - 5/10
Star Trek : Nemesis - 0/10
Star Trek (2009) - 0/10
Star Trek Into Darkness - 3/10

Or

  1. The Wrath of Khan / The Voyage Home
  2. The Undiscovered Country
  3. The Motion Picture / First Contact
  4. Insurrection
  5. The Search For Spock / The Final Frontier
  6. Generations / Into Darkness
  7. Nemesis / Star Trek 2009

  • 10 years before TOS? I think that’s a horrible idea. That will bring it between The Cage and TOS and way too far from Enterprise. I was secretly hoping for either a post-Enterprise era, maybe even the Romulan War, where Archer would be basically the new show’s Admiral Forrest. Or something post-Nemesis, maybe a USS Titan show under the command of Captain Riker. Or something between TOS and TNG would be great. But they’ve chosen the most boring possibility.
  • making the main lead NOT a captain - I think it’s a very interesting idea and if it’s done correctly it has the potential to be really great.
  • making it serialized instead of episodic - I don’t know what to think yet. The Star Trek format has been always episodic, this is way too different. But I did like the 3rd season of Enterprise, so let’s hope it will be good.
  • forcing me to get Netflix ONLY for this - I hate you for this.

Yeah, I’m confused. I would send you a copy of the incorrect segment or whatever it is you’re after. But I sent it back and just got my replacement yesterday.

For anyone who wants to quickly check: White barcode on the case = original release, yellow = corrected.

That maybe true for the American version, but the version I have has white bar code and still has the corrected shot

I have finally received my STII Blu-ray from amazon.co.uk and unfortunately it’s the corrected version. Does anybody know how to get the incorrect version?

Obviously, I’ve missed something. Are you referring to the Sulu error? May I ask why you want the incorrect version?

Correct, that’s the thing I’m searching for. Reason : I have a youtube channel where I compare various versions of different Trek episodes / movies. So if any of you guys could upload somewhere the said segment I’d be grateful

A quick question - please, no spoilers, I live in a country where the movie for some reason gets released on 19.8. - is there a chance, that I as a person who hated every Star Trek movie after Insurrection, and I absolutely love Trek stories which have some deeper meanings, or at least are about something more than just Spock hitting somebody and explosions, is there a chance that that kind of person will at least LIKE this movie? I tried to watch different spoiler free reviews and most people seem to like this movie, but those were people who loved the previous 2 movies
