I love the Mandarin twist, it was great for the movie. I never understood why so many people don’t like it, but to be honest I have never ever read an Iron Man comic (nor do I plan to) so I never knew there was some DIFFERENT Mandarin.
But what I don’t understand are the stupid comments about Iron Man not being in the movie enough - Tony Stark IS Iron Man. He is the interesting character, the suit is just a suit.
What I don’t get is the general love for the first Avengers movie, it’s just a dumb action flick. I’m glad I’ve seen, I enjoyed it, but that’s the best thing I can say about it. But most of the people behave like it’s the best movie they’ve seen

Info: Star Trek [The Movies] - VHS Archive Project

Are you sure that’s from the UK VHS version? Because the video you posted looks like the standard PAL Region 2 DVD version (which I have). According to the comments on my youtube channel this is a screenshot from that VHS : http://s1036.photobucket.com/user/TOMFAN2015/media/TVH_zpss66wd9cv.jpg.html

Full discussion here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSoEHGaOX7w

And was the VHS cut of ST6 REALLY released on DVD? Because the DVD I have is again a DIFFERENT cut than the one which is on my VHS

Is there a chance that some of you have the UK-only version of Star Trek 4? The version which was called “The Voyage Home : Star Trek” and has unique opening credits (and possibly other unknown changes)? Cause I would LOVE to see it.

Also, any chance you have the VHS version of Star Trek 6? I have it myself but I have no chance how to digitize it anymore and that cut wasn’t released anywhere else as far as I know.

Info: 'Star Trek - The Original Series' (Unaltered in HD) (Idea + info)

How do you know what is the original mono and what isn’t? You guys have to have much better ears than I do, the only change in the “original” versions I noticed are the opening credits - on the DVDs the first episodes have a different take(s) of the opening theme and earlier versions of the credits (different, bigger font and Leonard Nimoy is not “also starring” yet), however on the Blu-ray all “original” versions have the later version of the credits.

They would have done it for one of the 4 releases they brought out this year.

I’m surprised that DS9 isn’t getting remastered given that apparently TNG sold well. I kind of hope that the DC remaster of II is testing the waters to see if we can get remasteres of the others (particularly the DCs of I and VI), but we’ll see. Paramount just don’t seem interested.

Multiple sources actually claim that the TNG blu-rays barely broke even.

Info Wanted: Preserving RotS Theatrical Version - Is there any interest?

There was a diagonal optical wipe in the theatrical release that was replaced with a straight cut on the DVD. This was then restored on the BD, so the BD is the theatrical version.

It isn’t. There was some CG crap added to the Wookie huts and there are some changes in the soundtrack.

A public question to Dr. Dre or anybody of the beta testers of the tool - in December a new box set will be released containing various clips containing alternate / deleted scenes etc. of classic Star Trek.
2 clips have been released on the official CBS youtube channel

The footage will not be restored and as seen in the clips it’s mostly red faded. Could somebody please try the tool on some randomly chosen faded pictures from the youtube vids?

Here you go:

Actually this is great. I think I know what I’m gonna do for several weeks after the thing gets released 😃

I have finally seen Beyond.

A few observations including MINOR SPOILERS

Negatives

  • the first sequence. WTF was that? It was quite depressing to watch, to be honest after seeing it I thought I will hate the movie. Not a good start and way too fast.

  • action scenes. I don’t really remember when was the last time I have seen a movie where I hated every single action scene. Extreme closeups and shaky-cam? I thought that shit died out 10 years ago. Not only I had no idea what’s going on in most of the scenes, during the white chick vs monster man fight I honestly thought I’m gonna throw up, I had to close my eyes for a few seconds and take a few deep breaths. I thought that the guy who directed F&F movies would know how to shoot action scenes. I admit however I haven’t seen the F&F movies except almost the full first one.

  • the crash sequence. When I’ve seen the Enterprise D saucer crash on the planet, I was sad. When I’ve seen the JJPrise saucer crash on the planet, I was bored.

  • CG effects. While the Enterprise looked more beautiful than in the previous 2 movies, in many cases the CGI was simply bad. It’s quite distracting when you know that (almost) all of the “Breen” were CG, and when you know when you’re watching 2 people in front of a green screen composited in a fake background. It takes you out of the movie. Hollywood, please stop using CGI stunt doubles. They look like shit and distract the audience.

  • Krall. WTF was that twist at the end? Seriously, did they ever explain why can he turn into a guy with fake looking prosthetics?

Positives

  • all the dialogue scenes. Every single scene where 2 people (or humanoids) were just talking was simply GREAT. I mean it felt like I’m watching a Star Trek movie. If this was done by Simon Pegg, please, PLEASE, Paramount, let him rewrite EVERY future Trek script. I absolutely LOVED it.

  • J-lo. That’s what I call a well written “strong” female character. I love her and that comes from a man labelled on youtube as a sexist and misogynist because I dared to dislike the Fembusters. Please include her in Trek 14

  • Caaaaan’t stand it, I know you planned it. Why was the worst part of the trailer one of the best parts of the movie?

  • Humour. After the depressing opening I definitely didn’t expect to laugh so much.

  • And I definitely didn’t expect to cry. Every time they respectfully talked about one of my childhood heroes, I almost cried. At the end, when they unexpectedly showed the Star Trek 6 promo picture, I simply lost it. For the first time in 3 movies. Great job.

Definitely my favourite of the reboot movies.

RELEASED: "Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Special Longer Version)"
Time

I have the official Blu-ray (23.976) and the official PAL Director’s cut DVD.
The DVD is just sped up from 23.976->25fps and the DVD is cropped slightly differently than the Blu-ray, but I never noticed it till now and I doubt the cropping is different on the NTSC DVD
