So beyond Klingons, what’s the consensus on Discovery? I haven’t watched any since the one broadcast episode a few weeks ago.

I personally hated the 2 part “pilot” and episode 4. I liked episode 3, I thoughts it was hilarious, but apparently it was supposed to scary. And the current episode was the first episode ever whose ending made me wanna see the next episode. Also it was the first episode, which was about SOMETHING, it felt almost like Star Trek.

My problem with the Klingons in Discovery is that they’re so boring.

Absolutely. And what is going on with their speech? I’m not sure if the actors have absolutely no clue what they’re doing, or if the makeup and prosthetics are so bad that they can barely speak, but it’s so bad…

I don’t dislike the design, but making them all look like that (I mean really not a single one can have hair?) is definitely just different for the sake of different. To be clear though, I quite honestly don’t give a shit.

I was secretly hoping immediately after they said that there are 24 houses, that we will see different looking Klingons, they could also use TOS designs, also some TNG designs, maybe the Enterprise Augments designs… But no, they all have to be generic boring space monsters

The kligons in TNG look nothing like the ones in TOS.

Actually the TNG Klingons are just a logical evolution of the Motion Picture Klingons, and they are a logical evolution of the TOS Klingons.

The Discovery design looks much more like the TNG design than TNG/TOS.

Really? I see barely any similarities between the TNG Klingons and DIS Klingons.

If any other show was using the design from Discovery, they’d be blasted for ripping off TNG.

Nah. The Orville designs look like TNG, definitely not Discovery. Discovery looks more like Ron Moore’s Galactica crossed with Star Wars

I wonder if they’ll ever remaster any of the other films or put out the DC of VI?

Are all the BDs the same, or were there barebones releases? The price on the boxed set seems to good to be true.

Assuming all Trek releases are reusing the same discs in different packaging, each movie Blu-ray contains the movie, all of the special features from the DVDs (they even kept them as 29,97fps mpg2), HD trailers and a few poorly made new HD documentaries - the only good enough for remembering are a new documentary about Phase II etc. and a few featurettes about ILM and effects. There is also a thing called “library computer” and some online stuff if I remember correctly

Info: 'Star Trek - The Original Series' (Unaltered in HD) (Idea + info)

I have a little “philosophical” question. What would you consider to be “restored original” version?
In other words, what is OK and what isn’t.

  • In the early episodes every episode had different opening credits. This was changed for the syndicated versions, every episode has the same opening credits. These “new” opening credits are on the Blu-ray set, the DVD set has the “old” credits. Is it worth changing?
  • in many, and I mean MANY Enterprise shots thanks to the blue spill problem some parts of the ship get transparent. Should it be fixed (at least in the cases for which we have the original blue screen shots)?
  • some of the wrong effects were fixed in the syndication version - good example is The Naked Time, the shots of the planet. Should it be “fixed” to the “unfixed” version?

I LOVE The Orville. It looks and feels like TNG. The episodes are actually about something. The third episode actually feels like a Braga script (and that’s meant as a compliment), which may have something to do with the fact he directed it. Now Frakes is directing, people like Liam Neesom and Sir Patrick have cameos… This feels like Trek. Wish I could say the same about Discovery 😦

I thought it was suppose to be one of those Trek situations where, at least in theory, the idea was that both characters were supposed to have a somewhat valid moral point and there weren’t easy answers.

I would prefer if they would do it like that. The most memorable Trek stories IMHO are stories where we’re not told what is the “correct” solution of a problem.

Thanks for posting your results, one69chev. I have Windows 10 Pro 64bit and the 50 GB versions of NJVC’s ISOs. None of them play for me in VLC 😦

Possessed - thanks for the advice on PowerDVD Plus.

Bluto

VLC does NOT play Blu-rays, doesn’t matter what some people say

Wrong. But I will agree it’s not the best option.

I’m pretty sure it’s not possible. I tried all free players, and none of them could do it. All I could was playing the m2ts files, but not the Blu-rays themselves (meaning no menues etc.) As far as I know only commercial software can play Blu-ray discs.
