The Bad Batch (animated series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Ah, her is name mentioned with the subtitles on the trailer turned on 😉

I see what you mean re kids in the earlier animated shows… IF she is a clone then then she’ll likely age quite rapidly until adulthood?

Hopefully the show-runners will do a decent job with her - whether she is a main or recurring character.

^ Omega?

Possibly some kind of strand-cast of a clone? With the accent sounding Kiwi there’s an inference that she may have a connection to Jango (or do all clones have a Kiwi twang?).

Omega as a name? An inference that she could be the last clone… (or a ‘last batch’ of clones?)

Should be intriguing to hear her story…

LEGO Star Wars - the games!!

The ‘Lego Star Wars’ series of games…

About the Lego Star Wars video game series…

Lego Star Wars gameplay is from a third-person perspective, and takes place in a 3D game world that contains objects, environments, and characters designed to resemble Lego pieces. Its gameplay—a combination of the action-adventure, platform, and sometimes puzzle genres—shares elements. The games comically retells various Star Wars film events using cutscenes without dialogue.

The player assumes the roles of the films’ characters, each of whom possesses specific weapons and abilities. At any time, a second player can join the game, by activating a second controller.

Gameplay in Lego Star Wars is geared towards family play, and does not feature a game-over scenario. Given a specific set of characters in each scenario, based on a scene from each of the movies, up to two players can control them, using their different abilities. By walking up to another friendly character, the player can switch control over to that character; this interaction is necessary in order to use another character’s abilities to complete certain puzzles.

Lego Studs, small coin-like collectibles which serve as the game’s currency, can be collected by finding them, smashing or using the force on certain objects, or defeating enemies. Studs increase in value based on color, silver is the least valuable at only 10 points, going up to gold, valued at 100 points, blue at 1000, and the rarest, purple worth 10,000. Players also have a health meter consisting of four hearts that gets depleted if they get injured or shot at. When they lose all their hearts, their character is broken apart and they lose studs (as opposed to lives).

These studs can be spent on unlocking new characters for Free Play mode, hints for playing the game, and cheats. Certain segments of the game feature players controlling spaceships flying on a flat plane.

Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (2006)

Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by LucasArts and TT Games Publishing. It was released on 11 September 2006. Part of the Lego Star Wars series, it is based on the Star Wars science fiction media franchise and Lego Group’s Lego Star Wars eponymous Star Wars-themed toy line. It follows the events of the Star Wars films, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The game allows players to assume the roles of over 50 Lego versions of characters from the film series; customized characters can also be created. Camera movement was improved from its predecessor Lego Star Wars: The Video Game and the concept of “vehicle levels” was explored more thoroughly.

Lego Star Wars II was critically and commercially successful; with critics praising the game for its comedic and “adorable” portrayal of the film series and due to preference for the Original Trilogy over the Prequel Trilogy.

A mobile phone adaptation, Lego Star Wars II Mobile, was later developed by Universomo, published by THQ, and released on 19 December 2006.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007)

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game based on the Lego Star Wars line of toys. It is a combination of the game ‘Lego Star Wars: The Video Game’ and its sequel ‘Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy’, which spans the first six episodes of the Star Wars saga.

The game was announced by LucasArts on 25 May 2007 at Celebration IV and was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Nintendo DS on 6 November 2007 in North America. The compilation title was released for the PC on 13 October 2009 in the US. The Mac OS X version of the game was released on 12 November 2010 by Feral Interactive. A version of the game for iOS was released on 11 December 2013, and for Android on 1 January 2015.

Like in Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, the hub world takes place in the Mos Eisley Cantina. The Cantina has doors that allows the player to enter the levels for Episodes I-VI, the bonus levels, the Bounty Hunter missions, and the Arcade games. The Cantina also has customizable characters like Lego Star Wars II.

The Episodes I, II, and III levels have been updated so that characters can build and ride vehicles, wear helmets and gain access to bounty hunter and Stormtrooper areas. Prequel trilogy characters now have the ability to dodge blaster fire and have their own special melee attack (for example, Chewbacca rips off arms). New Force moves were added, Force Lightning and Force Choke. New characters have also been added, bringing the total up to 128. Indiana Jones is an unlockable playable character to foreshadow and promote Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (2011)

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game based on The Clone Wars animated film and its follow-up television series with the same name, both of them set between the films Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The game was developed by Traveller’s Tales, published by LucasArts, and released in March 2011 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo 3DS consoles. Lego Star Wars III features missions and characters from The Clone Wars film and television series, as well as favourite characters from the original Star Wars saga, in both single-player and multiplayer gameplay modes. The Mac OS X version of the game has been released by Feral Interactive

Gameplay in Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars is similar to the previous titles in the series, and other Lego video games. Up to two players can switch between different characters to fight enemies in combat, solve puzzles, and progress through various levels. It introduces a few novelties, including scene swap, where players can switch between teams in separate locations to complete multi-part objectives, and boss battles.

The game also features some real-time strategy elements, such as commanding large ground armies across battlefields. Also, the space fights have been remodelled to use a more instinctive, 3D-space battle sensation. It is set during the Clone Wars animated series, as well as certain scenes from Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, unlike the original games, which featured characters from the six films of Star Wars such as Lego Star Wars: The Video Game and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2016)

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game developed by TT Fusion, based on the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is the fifth entry in TT Games’ Lego Star Wars series of video games. Under license from Lucasfilm, the game was released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for iOS, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U, on 28 June 2016, and for Android on 27 July 2016. The game was ported and released by Feral Interactive for OS X on 30 June 2016.

In addition to adapting the film, the game includes content which covers the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The gameplay of Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is similar to previous Lego video games. New systems were introduced including Multi-Builds which grant players access to various building options. These options can be destroyed and rebuilt in certain brick-building sections of the game, allowing for new path to be opened within the game’s world. Players can also hide behind cover and engage in “Blaster Battles” with enemies throughout the game - and can also freely explore Jakku, Takodana, D’Qar, and Starkiller Base, which all act as mini-open worlds.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (2022)

A dedicated OT•com thread for the ‘Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’ game can be found here - link

It was originally due out in October 2020, was then put back to Spring 2021, and is now delayed again (as of 2nd April, 2021)…

Edit: the game is now due for release in ‘Spring 2022’, according to ‘Trailer 2’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-zxyUUzzrA

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a Lego-themed action-adventure game released in Spring 2021 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be the sixth entry in TT Games’ Lego Star Wars series of video games and the successor to Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The game will adapt all nine entries in the Skywalker saga series of films.

Unlike most Lego video games in which players had to advance through the story in a linear order, players can choose to start the game from any of the nine Skywalker saga episodes and complete them in any order they wish. Each episode will have five story missions, making a total of 45 levels, contrasting from six levels per episode in previous games. Combat has been revamped from previous titles, such as lightsaber wielders now using a variety of combos with light attacks, heavy attacks, and Force moves, and blaster characters having an over-the-shoulder camera (angle featured in many third-person shooter games). The game features 300 playable characters - some reportedly with some dialogue (a first for a ‘Lego Star Wars’ game).

The game features a wide range of fully explorable planets filled with many iconic Star Wars landmarks. Planets and moons confirmed by the developers so far to be explorable in the hub include Naboo, Tatooine, Coruscant, Kamino, Geonosis, Kashyyyk, Utapau, Mustafar, Yavin 4, Hoth, Dagobah, Bespin, Endor, Jakku, Takodana, D’Qar, Starkiller Base, Ahch-To, Cantonica, Crait, Ajan Kloss, Pasaana, Kijimi, Kef Bir, and Exegol.

Many ships will have freely explorable areas in the hub as well, such as Star Destroyers and the Death Star. Random encounters will also happen in the game’s hub. For example, an Imperial Star Destroyer could suddenly jump out of hyperspace and send a fleet of TIE Fighters after the player. Players can choose to engage in dogfights with them or continue onward to progress the story.

The series focuses primarily on Kyle Katarn, a former Imperial officer who becomes a mercenary working for the Rebel Alliance, and later a Jedi and instructor at Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy. While the first game is set a year after the events of the original Star Wars film, the sequels take place in the decade following Return of the Jedi.

It was the 11th best selling computer game of the period 1993 to 1999, with an estimated 952,000 copies sold.

The story is set in the fictional Star Wars expanded universe and begins shortly before the original Star Wars film, before flashing forward to a year after the film’s events. Lucasfilm at 50
Time

There is some info on the changes George Lucas has made to his ‘non Star Wars’ films in this 2010 thread…

Is there a single Lucasfilm release on blu that has not been tampered with ?

… though it could probably do with an update - as he may have made even more changes since 😉

THX 1138 also has its 50th anniversary this year. Unfortunately the original theatrical cut is not officially available…

Super Star Wars (and 'Super Empire Strikes Back' & 'Super Return Of The Jedi')

The ‘Super Star Wars’ Trilogy of games…

LucasArts’ Super Star Wars games are notable for retelling the entire original movie trilogy in the form of a SNES adventure. Super Star Wars was released in 1992 - with ‘Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’ coming out the following years.

At the time, it had been nine years since the last Star Wars movie entry and we were still years away from the Special Editions or Prequel Trilogy. Fans were still hungry for more Star Wars, and they got it in the comparatively bonkers narrative of Star Wars: The Super Edition…

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the Super Star Wars Trilogy of games nearly made their way onto PC back in the mid-1990’s:-

‘Super Star Wars (PC/DOS) 1996, LucasArts’:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62o-ST0iAAw - 82 minute video at the Major Thriftwood youtube channel.

The blurb: ‘A PC port of Super Star Wars was in the works since 1994, by Danish game company Brain Bug and produced by Softgold. The game was almost completed, and was well into the playtesting phase, but in 1995 LucasArts decided to halt the development and cancel the release.’

However, the trilogy of games are now available to play on the PC (officially) - via Antstream Arcade:-

Ⓐ • About ‘Shadows Of The Empire’…

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is a 1996 multimedia project created by Lucasfilm. The idea was to create a story set between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and to explore all commercial possibilities of a full motion picture release without actually making a film. The venture was intended to reinvigorate interest in the franchise ahead of the 1997 theatrical Special Editions of the Star Wars Trilogy released the following year.

Several products were released, including a novel, a junior novelization, a comic book series, a video game, a soundtrack, trading cards, role-playing games, posters, model kits, Micro Machines toys, and a series of action figures and vehicles.

The story introduces Rebel ally Dash Rendar, who aids the heroes in their attempt to liberate the frozen Han Solo from bounty hunter Boba Fett. Meanwhile, Darth Vader continues the search for his son, Luke Skywalker, whom crime lord Prince Xizor attempts to kill in his plot to replace Vader at the side of Emperor Palpatine.

It was sometimes referred to as ‘The Movie Without A Movie’.

The blurb / a would-be opening crawl…

“When Luke Skywalker was most vulnerable…
When a renegade hero became a friend in desperate need and a dark villain faced his greatest challenge…
When the Empire turned more and more to the forces of the underworld…
the underworld moved in to crush the Empire and the Rebellion in a single stroke…
After The Empire Strikes Back and before Return of the Jedi, there was a time when heroes and villains alike lived in the Shadows of the Empire.”

Ⓑ • The Book(s)

‘Shadows of the Empire’ is a 1996 novel written by Steve Perry. It describes the events between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It was part of the Shadows of the Empire multimedia project.

‘It is a time of crisis. Han Solo, frozen in carbonite, is being taken to the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt. As Princess Leia mounts a rescue mission and Darth Vader scours the Galaxy for Luke Skywalker, another sinister figure emerges. Cunning and ruthless, leader of a powerful crime syndicate, he will pit himself against Vader for the favor of their mutual master…the dreaded Emperor.’

From the Wikipedia page for the SOTE novel:-

'Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian hire the services of Battle of Hoth veteran Dash Rendar, who has located Boba Fett’s ship, which has the frozen Han Solo aboard. The heroes lead an attempt to liberate Han from the bounty hunter, but are outgunned by Imperial TIE fighters. Back on Tatooine, as Luke Skywalker constructs a new lightsaber, he is chased by swoop bike riders in the service of Jabba the Hutt and saved by Dash.

The two learn where they can intercept the plans for a new Death Star, which they obtain with the aid of Bothan fighters and bring to Kothlis to be decoded. Luke is briefly captured by the agents of Darth Vader and learns of the Falleen crime lord Prince Xizor, who plans to kill Luke in a plot to gain Emperor Palpatine’s favor. Meanwhile, Leia investigates the attempts on Luke’s life. She and Chewbacca meet Xizor’s human-replica droid Guri, who brings Leia to Coruscant, where Xizor tries to seduce the princess in an attempt to bait Luke.

Luke, Lando and Dash sneak into the crime lord’s palace to save Leia. As the Rebels engage Imperial fighters above Coruscant, Xizor is prevented from escaping by the vengeful Darth Vader, whose Star Destroyer shoots down his repulsor craft and Skyhook base. The debris from the explosion hits the Outrider, apparently killing Dash. Back on Tatooine once more, Luke records a holographic message for Jabba the Hutt.

Author Steve Perry was commissioned to write the novel—the backbone of the multimedia project—after writing the novelizations of The Mask for Bantam, and Aliens based upon graphic novels by Dark Horse Comics, which had been licensed by Lucasfilm to create Star Wars comics. In addition to studying the original Star Wars trilogy, Perry read the first spin-off novel in the franchise, Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, to get an idea of how to write for Vader.

The publishers wanted a ‘substitute’ for the incapacitated Han Solo, and Perry came up with the character of Dash, noted by fans as being mainly a vehicle for Solo-esque dialogue. The publishers also instructed Perry to make Xizor’s attempt to seduce Leia successful, but the author refused as he feared fan backlash.

Steve Perry has expressed his support of adapting the story as an animated film. A prequel novel was planned, to be written by author Charles Grant, but was cancelled due to a Lucasfilm Licensing move from Bantam to Del Rey Books.’

The Secrets of The Shadows Of The Empire book…

The book blurb: ‘The minds behind the Star Wars galaxy have created a phenomenon of epic proportions, designed to unfold in nearly every medium at their disposal. This intensely researched volume guides you through this Star Wars event–as its creators reveal the secrets behind the multimedia release of the year. The tendrils of this dark drama will reach throughout the Star Wars galaxy’.

‘The Secrets of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is a 1996 reference book written by Mark Cotta Vaz. Structured like a “making of” book typically written for a film, the book covers the Shadows of the Empire multimedia campaign. It explains the origins and development of the novel, comics, video game, and soundtrack.’

‘After George Lucas approved the concept, Wilson and Howard Roffman wrote a brief outline of the premise. Then in November 1994, licensing representatives and Lucasfilm executives met at Skywalker Ranch to begin serious work on the project. Author Steve Perry, who had been hired to write the novel, took detailed notes of the discussion, and used this to create an outline for his book. This outline would serve as the basis for all other aspects of the overall project.’

'Shadows of the Empire was a six-issue miniseries that was part of the Shadows of the Empire multimedia campaign.

While the events of the comic coincide with the events of the novel, the comic does not follow much the exploits of Leia, Lando and the mysterious villainess Guri, who here plays only a minor supportive role; on the other hand it includes a generous amount of what Boba Fett was up to during that time, the rivalry with his fellow bounty hunters, and Jix’s mission on Tatooine.’

It was released for the Nintendo 64 on December 3, 1996, and a version for Windows 95 was released nearly one year later on September 17, 1997. The game was re-released for Windows systems on May 3, 2016 through Good Old Games. The re-release allows the game to play properly on 64-bit Windows installations.

'The Shadows of the Empire soundtrack is a musical score by Emmy Award-winning composer Joel McNeely which was inspired by author Steve Perry’s 1996 novel of the same name. The score, much like classical program music of the past, is based on a piece of literature rather than a motion picture.

The 51-minute score, conducted by McNeely, was performed by the 90-piece Royal Scottish National Orchestra and a 150 voice chorus in Glasgow, Scotland in early 1996. The album was released by Varèse Sarabande Records on April 23, 1996. In addition to the score, the CD contained exclusive CD-ROM features with behind-the-scenes content.’

The blurb: 'Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is a 1996 multimedia project created by Lucasfilm. The idea was to create a story set between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and to explore all commercial possibilities of a full motion picture release without actually making a film. The venture was intended to reinvigorate interest in the franchise ahead of the theatrical Special Editions of the Star Wars trilogy released the following year.

Several products were released, including a novel, a junior novelization, a comic book series, a video game, a soundtrack, trading cards, role-playing games, posters, model kits, Micro Machines toys, statuettes, vinyl dolls, and a series of action figures and vehicles. The story introduces Rebel ally Dash Rendar, who aids the heroes in their attempt to liberate the frozen Han Solo from bounty hunter Boba Fett. Meanwhile, Darth Vader continues the search for his son, Luke Skywalker, whom crime lord Prince Xizor attempts to kill in his plot to replace Vader at the side of Emperor Palpatine.’

Lucasfilm at 50
Time

‘2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Lucasfilm. The celebration will kick off with commemorative, fan-favorite 50th anniversary Star Wars products. The launch starts in January and will continue throughout the year with special edition product releases’.

“Consumer products have always been an integral part of the Star Wars fan experience, and they remain a constant force in pop-culture today,” says Paul Southern, Lucasfilm senior vice president, Licensing and Franchise. “To commemorate Lucasfilm’s 50 years of storytelling, we look forward to honoring this consumer products legacy and bringing to life brand-new products, games, and publishing offerings that celebrate our future with Lucasfilm’s exciting feature films and Disney+ series ahead.”’

^ from the ‘StarWars•com 50th anniversary announcement’ - the first article on Lucasfilm’s 50th, on StarWars•com, in December 2020.

It is both telling and unfortunate in the first announcement about Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary… that the opening statement is about selling the fans more merchandise. As evidenced below, and also since - in the majority of articles online, it appears the aim of Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary is not to celebrate the rich history and achievements of this great pioneering company… but to instead sell yet more merch to the fans.

Book Of Boba Fett - Black Series figures revealed (Week 9) - at StarWars•com

Several online searches over the year also seemingly equates Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary with overwhelmingly being about selling merch - rather than highlighting or celebrating the rich history & ground-breaking achievements of the company itself.

Even on the actual day of the 50th Anniversary, the 10th December, there was not a single mention of the day / anniversary on the Lucasfilm website or any of their social media pages - nor on the Star Wars website, nor any of their social media pages.

The welcome announcement the following longstanding and popular ‘non-canon’ Star Wars releases are to finally see the light of day again. Coming to Disney+, under the ‘Vintage Collection’ banner, in April 2021:-

“Caravan of Courage”
“Ewoks: The Battle for Endor”
“Star Wars: Clone Wars – Volume I”
“Star Wars: Clone Wars – Volume II”
“Star Wars: Ewoks” (Seasons 1-2)
“The Story of the Faithful Wookiee,” (better known as the animated section of the 1978 made-for-TV-film, “The Star Wars Holiday Special” – featuring the first appearance of bounty hunter Boba Fett.’)

https://attractionsmagazine.com/exciting-star-wars-additions-coming-disney-april

^ Hopefully we’ll see all of these releases presented in best possible quality - and NOT just lazy upscales to ‘HD’ quality. 👍

Star Wars: Droids, was later added to the Vintage Collection on Disney+.

Though still no release for the 39 finished episodes of Star Wars Detours.

Nor a release of The 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special either.

^ Edit: unfortunately, it seems the majority of the ‘Vintage Collection’ on Disney+ is indeed HD upscales.

The many, many various new Star Wars series and theatrical projects announced back in December 2020:-

The ‘Indiana Jones 4-film Collection on 4K UHD’ set is also being released this year…

https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/031521-1400

^ Hopefully the ‘Young Indiana Jones Chronicles’ will also see a quality release on a modern digital format someday too.

26th May Edit: It was poor form to see that there was nothing at all on the official Star Wars website, twitter, facebook, Lucasfilm website, or Lucasfilm facebook about the 25th May - especially given this year is Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary.

C’mon Lucasfilm - you are so much better, and so much more, than selling merch… celebrate that rich history with all us fans.

Still, many on here, on social media, and on other Star Wars fan sites & blogs etc - seemed to celebrate it just fine! 👍

10th December Edit: Even on the actual day of the 50th Anniversary, there was not a single mention of the day / anniversary on the Lucasfilm website or any of their social media pages - nor on the Star Wars website, nor any of their social media pages.

A couple of intriguing articles on Lucasfilm’s 50th (especially the article from SlashFilm)…

Lucasfilm turns 50 in 2021, celebrating with lots of new merch - at FanSided

Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary Celebration Will Include Shiny New Stuff to Spend Your Galactic Credits On - at SlashFilm:-

‘Look: I get it. Movies are a business, and they exist to make money. That’s no secret. But if the first words out of your mouth regarding a major studio’s anniversary are, “Consumer products have always been an integral part of our fan experience!”, you’re doing something wrong. Or maybe not. Perhaps the fine folks at Lucasfilm deserve credit for not bullshitting us. For being upfront about what they want: money, money, money.’

So in the spirit of Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary, celebrating their long history in film and tv, and in fitting with their accomplishments over the years, let’s hope they also do the right thing - re the glaring omission from their catalogue of work…

…and release the unaltered theatrical version of the Original Trilogy. The three classic iconic films that underpin all of the Galaxy Far Far Away, which have been officially unavailable (in a quality release it so merits) for over 25 years now, and counting.

A fan-favourite release that fans the world over would only be too happy to celebrate Lucasfilm for in its 50th anniversary.

And also actually pay money for too…
