The fact Rogue One is even being considered for awards is a testament to Disney’s ability to put Star Wars back on course. Almost any love Rogue One gets is cool in my book.
(best actress, seriously… best film, come on…, best director… well, that I can understand)
(and WTF are Empire awards anyway, it’s an online video game magazine ?!? It’s 12 yo kids giving awards to movies ? Dude…)
Don’t worry, soon you’ll be 12 years old, and you too will be able to vote along with all the other 12 year year olds who buy monthly film magazines and give out awards to movies - stay patient, dude…
Rogue One Wins Three Empire Awards… (Best Film, Best Actress and Best Director)
Best Film? And Actress? Jesus Christ, I liked Rogue One but I think that is a little much.
Aye, I thought Ken Loach would get the Best Director for ‘I, Daniel Blake’.
For Best Film it was against Hunt For The Wilderpeople,
Heard wonderful things about this. Dying to see it.
Arrival, La La Land,
Being my two personal favorite films of the year, this is nice.
& Deadpool
Ugh
Just disgraceful that Felicity won. Her character was one of the worst aspects of Rogue One for me.
I thought she was fine - though likely the re-shoots may well have eaten into various character development. A bit surprised she won though that may be down to the amount of people who watched Rogue One over some of the other films…
…in that the Empire Awards are picked by the viewership, and whilst it’s great to have the viewers pick the winners, it’s likely not all will have seen every film nominated - and due to timing of releases, it was tough for say La La Land to get many votes in quite a narrow timeframe as to a film which had been released earlier in the year?
and also, Star Wars does have a considerable media campaign and presence to it in the build up to its releases - which seems a little unfair on for eg, independent or small budget films. Such is life…
(and yet on the flip side I’d still prefer the public to vote for winners over a panel of anonymous judges - who we know little about other they work in and around the film industry. Overall I don’t think these award shows are not too be taken too seriously. Glad that Rogue One got some love - and from the Empire Awards themselves - I’ve come across a few films and features I’d like to see that I haven’t otherwise heard about - or forgotten about - or lacked a PR/advertising budget etc).
