The Official <em>LEGO</em> Discussion &amp; Review Thread
Time

My nephews love the stuff - and are just at the age where they are building their own ships, houses and bases with lego bricks - rather than just sticking to the instructions.

Bloody expensive though. Also quite funny to see all the middle aged men (myself included) in the Lego stores looking at all the lego goodness - with their kids looking on - knowing they won’t get a chance to get near them as their dads take over and build it all 😃

Haven’t seen the Atlantis film, paja (though thoroughly enjoyed the 2014 Lego movie), is it worth a watch?

World Cup 2018
Time

^ I saw a bit of France vs Ireland (towards the end - when it was really lashing down with rain! 😃) - the depth of the French squad looks superb, and easily brushed aside Ireland who only really offered the occasional counter-attack and set-pieces -though a good warm-up vs a defencive minded side.

Am off to se Brazil vs Croatia this Sunday in a pre-World Cup match - may be worth putting a couple of £ on Croatia to do well in Russia - and they plays some decent attractive footy with some quality players.

The bookies odds for winning the World Cup (as of today)…

Brazil & Germany both at 9/2, Spain & France at 6/1, Argentina 10/1, Belgium 12/1, England 16/1 (likely because of the amount of bets the English put on them rather than odds of actually winning it), Portugal 28/1, Croatia 33/1, Uruguay & Colombia at 33/1, Russia at 40/1, Poland 80/1, Denmark 100/1, Egypt, Senegal & Serbia at 250/1, Iceland 400/1, Australia at 750/1, with Saudi Arabia at 2000/1.

Seems like many people voted with their dollars this weekend. I’ve read some opinions saying that they won’t be watching any Star Wars in the cinema if Kennedy remains in the cockpit. Would things really get better if… let’s say, Filoni replaced her?

Current US box office: $103,016,812

Current worldwide: $172,697,257

(Apologies if there is a box office discussion elsewhere…)

No, I don’t think Dave Filoni is the right man for the job. Kevin Feige on the other hand…

Discussions of Filoni, Kennedy, Disney, Lucas, the management - and any perceived shortcomings of them etc - are probably best suited to a more relevant thread than this, the ‘Solo review and opinion’ thread - which is more suited to discussing the film itself.

There is a decent thread here on that subject mate - ‘Star Wars at box office’ which may be of interest?

The Official <em>LEGO Star Wars</em> Discussion and Review Thread
Time

Lego Star Wars II (The Original Trilogy) was a blast on the GameCube (yeah, I admit to owning one a long time ago! 😉)

A really enjoyable and fun pick-up-and-play game - with some good humour in there, easy playability and could play for a quick 10 minutes or go for a full hour or so before getting bored (or sidetracked with real life!)

Makes me almost want to go out and buy one again - almost…

A top idea for a thread, DZ-330 👍

Yeah, I wouldn’t have expected you to understand or agree with that opinion because (and I mean no personal offense by this) you kinda have a similar personality.

Mate, please keep any personal comments about fellow members out of the thread - thank you.

Here is another try at the “Skywalker Lives” ending which finishes on the wide shot of the binary sunset. In my opinion, I like the musical timing of the first version better but like the ending shot of this second version better. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

https://vimeo.com/272150746

Whilst I don’t agree with the premise of keeping him alive - I think you knocked it out of the park there - really well done. The emotions and timing of the shots and the scene overall - really immersive and professional.

I would say it seems the clouds have changed direction from appearing on 14s (left to right), to appearing on 29s (right to left), and disappeared quite quickly before the shot on 36s (maybe another shot inserted to give an impression of long time passing there?)

Still, impressive stuff darthrush 😃

SPOILERS for S2xE06…

Wow. Bringing him back was always a possibility - yet that was very nicely done. Poor Maeve - she finally found what she’s looking for and then… that. Also enjoyed that Teddy may be have been ‘fixed’ a little too well. The opening scene too - 💫

So much occurring, and all of it so immersive.

A caricature of modern SJW’s to whom the term obnoxious does easily apply.

How so? Please explain this, and the difference between that and your ‘droid believed in a worthy cause (freedom from slavery)’ statement.

Sorry if I’ve upset anyone.

To be clear, I’m not talking about equal rights campaigners. I mean people who actively seek out things to be offended about, then complain about them loudly and persistently.

You don’t have those?

No worries (and you haven’t upset me) - am just asking what the difference is between the two? - As in equal rights campaigners will complain loud and persistently to get their point across or highlight or promote their cause - how do they differ (in being recognised) from those who seek out things to be offended about?

As it seems in the film she was only highlighting the droid rights/equality issue, yes?

Star Wars I - VIII Matching DVD covers?
Time

It may be worth having a look through the blu ray covers to see if anything can be easily adapted, or asking one of the talented people on here to make a new set - in one of the request threads?

Something like this? (from the blu ray cover thread)

or

I’m not a fan of these - though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there are now full matching sets available… (in the DVD covers thread)

Good luck with it mate - hope you find something that catches your eye.

You too my little Frink! Enjoy the sun and the fresh air.

Called for mod. But since Jay isn’t angry at you I dunno what will happen.

I already reported it, was told there’s nothing there to report. It’s fine.

No, you weren’t.

I asked you two questions - both of which you declined to answer - and part of your reply was ‘…it doesn’t really matter’.

After Anchorhead posted, you posted again as part of your reply ‘…like I said it really doesn’t matter’.

You’d do well not to put words into the mouths of the mods - nor twist what has actually been said. I don’t know what sort of game you’re trying to play here, Frink - but enough is enough.

It means everything you said was obvious. Ric Olie = Captain Obvious.

I was just mentioning the connotation in my country. It was obvious it had nothing to do with yours.

So… like your other posts in here, it was nothing to do with footy then. Right.

Seems you have the quite the knack for taking threads off-topic / derailing them.

It was tangentially related for one thing, it’s not like it came out of nowhere and it’s not like I posted something completely unrelated to anything that was said here.

Also I thought this part of the forum was going to see some relaxed moderation after the other part was split off? Or not, I guess.

No, it wasn’t. In this thread alone you have made 7 recent posts and none of them has been about footy. You continue to take the thread off topic and derail it further.

You then post an unrelated link as if to try and hammer home some sort of ‘point’, and then bring up that this part of the forum was going to see some relaxed moderation after the other part was split-off… well that is the plan and that is what is happening… though that doesn’t mean members can go into threads and derail them and taking off topic in this section of the site, or any other for that matter.

This, and on top of your earlier admission today that you derailed a thread in the General Star Wars Discussion, I’m of the opinion you are willfully trolling, baiting and wumming.

I strongly suggest you give some serious thought to your posting style on here - and make some changes to it, as well as giving some consideration to the other members here and their threads that you’re actions have on. You’re very close to some time away from this site.

Now, back on topic…

In my opinion, these two threads should have been created right after TLJ was released, when it became evident how polarising it is. This might have shortened some of the drawn out, fruitless arguments.

This said, I like how polarising TLJ is. It turns the comparably safe TFA on its head and takes the ST in a new direction. I’m curious for the final chapter.

I’m feeling pessimistic about Episode IX due to Abrams returning, as he’s a very play-it-safe kinda guy. The only movies where he was involved that I actually enjoyed are Armaggedon (he was one of the scriptwriters IIRC) and the very first Cloverfield movie which he produced. Other than that I consider him to be the popcorn guy’s Paul Thomas Anderson, in that both make totally insipid movies yet both are praised by their respective audiences as genius visionaries. If Chris Terrio was the sole scriptwriter I’d be more optimistic, but I’m sure Abrams will botch it all up as co-writer after all as he, alongside Lawrence Kasdan, scrapped Michael Arndt’s original script for TFA and then both proceeded to a copy-paste job.

For me, JJ is strange choice to wrap the Sequel Trilogy up - in my mind he seems more suited to creative ideas and intriguing plots and devices to draw the viewer at the start of a project - rather than finishing one. Hopefully he’ll knock it out of the park - yet given where the current story is in the Trilogy - he has a lot to do and accomplish in the final film…

I agree, except he’s coming back around to a thing he already started. So he has a strong creative (and emotional) attachment to this story, and has surely been thinking a lot about it’s direction in the years since he left.

Nice point - plus, he also has seen the script for TLJ quite a while now (I think he complimented RJ on it, saying he wished he’d wrote/directed it? - a few months before release?) - so likely has ideas brewing away to continue and resolve aspects of TLJ for a good while now too…

And the award for most silly and over the top ban goes to…

I can’t wait for the official explanation. Id go so far as to say I officially think this the the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever seen the administration/moderation do in this increasingly joyless forum that (coincidentally I’m sure) gets even more joyless whenever the founder is around, but I’d hate to find myself also banned for daring to disagree. After all the thing calipso said and got banned for is much more respectful than what that would be if I said that.

Maybe have a word with the joyless people who derailed the thread?

The idea that my questioning the relevance of a thread makes me joyless is pretty silly.

You think you derailed the thread, then? I wasn’t referring to you - though if you consider yourself one of the people who did derail it, then okay.

Feel free to PM me if you’d like to continue the conversation.

C’mon the Redmen!

Most of us don’t use that term in the US anymore lol.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._John's_Red_Storm

Prior to the 1994–95 school year, the university’s nickname was the St. John’s Redmen, which referenced the red uniforms worn by its teams in competition. The name was interpreted as a Native American reference in the 1960s, and the university did have a mascot (adorned in Native American dress), which eventually led to the team’s name change to the Red Storm. The change happened at a time when there was mounting pressure on colleges and universities to adopt names more sensitive to Native American culture.

I don’t think Liverpool players are going to be no longer be referred to as Redmen (the colour of the kit they’ve worn for over 100 years) by their fans due to an interpretation in the US on an insensitive term referring to Native Americans used in a completely different context.

I don’t what that means - in the future it may be better to explain it in words instead of an image-only post? Thanks.

On a separate note that’s the season over - though the pre-World Cup friendlies start very soon - as well as the World Cup itself on the 14th June 😃
