what was hard rule #4 before?

Before a couple of years ago? I don’t know mate - may have been a different set of Rules & Guidelines. Jay posted this set up on December 2016.

Edit: It may be worth checking further down the ‘announcements section’ for older rules if interested?

no, i meant before the update, since jay said “updated hard rule #4”. as in, what did it say before “no politics”.

Oh, doh! Okay - ‘Your signature, which appears beneath all your posts, may not contain political content or social commentary.’

‘Socrates: Portrait of an icon’…

https://www.football365.com/news/portrait-of-an-icon-socrates

Easily recognizable for his beard and headband, Sócrates became the “symbol of cool for a whole generation of football supporters”. He was considered to be one of the greatest midfielders ever to play the game - whilst being a self-proclaimed ‘anti-athlete’ - often smoking 30 a day and liking a drink. In 1983, he was named South American Footballer of the Year. In 2004, he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players.

Socrates played for Brazil for seven years, scoring 22 goals and representing the nation in two World Cups. He captained the team in the 1982 FIFA World Cup; playing in midfield alongside Zico, Falcão and Éder, considered one of the greatest Brazilian national teams ever. He also appeared in the 1979 and 1983 Copa América. At club level, Sócrates played for Botafogo-SP before joining Corinthians in 1978. He moved to Italy to play for Fiorentina, returning to Brazil in 1985 to end his career.

Refusing to play professional football until he completed his medical studies at the age of 25, the qualified doctor emerged as the perfect remedy to cure Corinthians lengthy title drought. During his highly influential six-year spell with Timão, the man nicknamed ‘Magrão’ (Big Skinny) became nothing short of a cult hero. His elegance and composure on the ball, leadership and outstanding goalscoring prowess – scoring at total of 172 goals in 297 matches – proved significant as he guided the club to Campeonato Paulista wins on three separate occasions, 1979, 1982 and 1983. And whilst he enjoyed further success in 1983, being crowned the South American Footballer of the Year, his concern for the wider Brazilian community during the country’s military dictatorship was apparent. Sócrates saw that football could be used as a medium for social activism.

Sócrates, together with teammate Wladimir, came to spearhead their own revolutionary movement in the mid-1980s in Brazil, known as the Corinthians Democracy. Protests by the players against the club’s management of them was seen as a rejection of the current regime and a microcosm of the wider injustices experienced by the Brazilian people under the military dictatorship. In November 1982, Corinthians players had the slogan “Vote on the 15th” printed on back of their black and white shirts – a daring public act of defiance urging the public to vote in the upcoming elections and one of the first moves towards ending the dictatorship. Indeed, his revolutionary manner off the pitch was equally visible on it.

Disney brings back laserdisc sized packaging

Sadly, Tesco has stopped doing the Big Sleeve Editions for blu rays of various films - which is a bit of a blow for those of us collecting the Star Wars editions (TFA, R1 & TLJ) so far.

Though it seems a few online fans maybe coming up with their own versions (some nice artwork used)…

Good luck to them 😃

Thought the 2nd episode was a quality follow-up to the new season - hitting the all the marks yet still feeling significantly different to what has come of late in Whoverse - a sort of ‘remaining true’ yet having it’s own identity.

The production values look quality - and loving the new Tardis (and also how Jodie played it meeting up again with it). Although only 2 episodes in… much kudos to new showrunner Chris Chibnall.

Looking forward to seeming more of the Doctor and the new companions in the next few episodes 😃

Info: a thread for fan-made Star Wars projects, crafts, gizmos, and endeavours
Time

There are some pretty ingenious and cool Star Wars fans undertaking various intriguing fan-made projects out there - so thought it may be worth having a thread for such labours of love that catch the eye of us lot on here.

Not just the superb Preservation, Fan Edit and other various audio/video endeavours & fan art/covers that are undertaken on here in many threads in the other sections of the site (and similar other sites) - yet a thread here for projects like droid-building, models, lightsabers, hacks or mods, curiosities, knickknacks, gadgets, and the like…

Came across this pretty cool video earlier - someone built a pretty sweet mouse droid…

I wonder if there is an EV-9D9 builders club, or one for Imperial Probe Droids…? 👍

Quality as ever, Jambe 😃

Really enjoyed listening to his fascinating stories and insights - seeing the pictures and snippets of videos from the time in amidst the interview.

I hope you do more and similar interview videos to come (also loved the ‘Do or Do Not’, ‘Slimy Piece of Worm-Ridden Filth’ & ‘Blast It Biggs’ videos as well).

Taking a stand against toxic fandom (and other )
Time

A strange state of affairs - Chuck Wendig has been posting his views on social media for a long while now, so for Marvel to hire him - and then fire him (for those views - ‘It was too much politics, too much vulgarity, too much negativity on my part.’ - according to Wendig) - doesn’t seem to scan.

The guy had already completed 3 of a 5 part story (and was working on the 4th) he was hired to do - it’d be interesting to find why Marvel at this point apparently decided to dispense with his services. (Wendig’s tweets on Kavanaugh? Something that may have pissed off Trump / Trump’s friend & advisor and Marvel Chairman Isaac Perlmutter? - rumoured to be soon offered a cabinet position?, or maybe nowt to do with them?).

As screams in the void says… it’ll be interesting to read Marvel’s side of events. (and info such as was he given prior warning, or maybe a quiet word to ease off a little on the social media beforehand, etc).

Chuck Wendig’s blog - http://terribleminds.com/ramble/2018/10/12/in-which-i-am-fired-from-marvel/

Concerning to read that some of the harassment / abuse was of a personal nature (‘pretty creepy, and very personal’) - so much so that he has had to involve the police.

Though not surprised to see hear of the pile of 1 star reviews moments after the release of Aftermath (speed readers, eh? 😉) - coincidentally containing some LGBT characters within (which a few vocal people out there online had a problem with).

At this point, I’ve accepted that nothing substantial will ever be done about climate change and we’ll just have to live with the consequences.

A sobering read, and unfortunately it seems you’re correct mate.

Hopefully some good could come out of this below - yet I imagine politicians may just be give lip service (or small concessions/promises - later watered down…) rather than genuine concerted effort to address the issues:-

’‘We need some fire’: climate change activists issue call to arms for voters…'

Campaigners say more than 15m people who care about the environment did not vote in the 2014 midterms – can they create a ‘green wave’ this November?

‘Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker’s debut is most watched launch for 10 years’…

An average of 8.2m tuned in to watch actor as first female Doctor, with peak of 9m and audience share of 40.1%

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2018/oct/08/doctor-who-jodie-whittakers-debut-is-most-watched-launch-for-10-years

I really enjoyed it, and was left wanting to watch the next episode after the credits finished rolling there and then. Thought it was a great introduction to the new Doctor, a good well-written and solid story - in a ‘villain of the week format’, decent and promising background cast, nicely executed CGI/effects, with some quality humour, peril, suspense and emotional spots all hitting the right notes. An all-round enjoyable watch for me.

For a new writing team and cast it was an impressive and intriguing start, with lots of potential - especially so from Jodie Whittaker.

Sweet to hear some nothern accents - and they made Sheffield look half decent too 😃

‘Eric Reid, first man to protest with Kaepernick, kneels for anthem on NFL return’…

Safety has alleged owners were keeping him out of league
Teammates say Reid’s actions are not a distraction

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/oct/07/eric-reid-kneels-carolina-panthers-nfl-protest

Good to see him return to the game - and for him to continue highlighting the reasons why he protests… “As we said, when we started, Colin and I, said: ‘Nothing will change unless you talk about it,’ so we’re going to continue to talk about it,” Reid said. “We’re going to continue to hold America accountable to the standard it says on paper, that we’re all created equal, because it’s not that way — but we’re going to keep pushing forward.”
