^ or at least I hope he does.
That is one impressive opening post for a most intriguing fan edit - I’m hooked - and also wishing you all the best with it.
👍
Edit: my ‘spoiler-free’ mini-review…
(disclaimer: I’m a bit of a 2003-05 Clone Wars fan)
Broom Kid’s edit successfully achieves it’s goal… to present a version of Clone Wars that best flows as a film - and actually feels like a film (which is no easy task given the original ‘animated shorts’ format of this much under-rated series).
I was very kindly sent a link to this late last night - and wasn’t going to watch it until the weekend when I have some spare time, though thought I’d pop it on and have a quick look at the first few minutes… that was a mistake on my part… as once this edit grabbed my attention in those first few minutes this was never going to be turned off until the end credits.
This edit also showcases just what a talented director (and creator) Genndy Tartakovsky is - bringing a highly stylised, boundless energy, and well-crafted action to the show - as well as a touch of humour and humanity to the story when required. It also serves as a reminder of just how much unique and fun the series was - whilst highlighting just what could be accomplished in telling these animated shorts (especially as the series progressed).
The many memorable villains also still stand out here - despite the limitations of originally being in separate story arcs. For me, most of the better stories set in the GFFA need an effective villain for it to work, or for the story to be lifted, or have that ‘weight’ or emotional connection to it… and anyone who was previously watched the series before knows the villains in Clone Wars deliver upon that, and then some.
Yet, as stated above, the goal of this edit in making the series feel like a free-flowing film was achieved - and surpassed - all whilst still making for an engaging story to experience.
Image and sound quality are of a high standard - clean and fresh (though not too sharp). Transitions and/or edits are seamless - and there were no technical issues that I noticed. Subtitles were also done very well, too.
I’d recommend this edit for both hard-core 2003 CW fans - and the uninitiated looking for an enjoyable introduction to the series. And also for any Star Wars fans looking for something a little different and fun to watch.
Quality work, Broom Kid - nice one! 👍
