Hi all, hi Sinbad,

Any chance you are still reading this thread and can send me links to your work on BTTF? Your edit is how I’d like to introduce the franchise to my wife, who never watched the movies!

George was telling the truth about the Father Vader twist going back to ANH, but so was Kurtz:

Darth being a real guy + Anakin stealing his identity would be a great twist. That or the other scenario (Anakin dead but Vader is the real dad with Mrs Skywalker) would make revelations in Rotj much more exciting and the prequels a LOT more surprising. And Old Ben wouldn’t have to be a damn lying liar.

That, to me, seems twisty for the sake of it. What does it change or really add if Anakin stole Vader’s identity story or character wise or if Vader is a different guy who is Luke’s dad?

Tosche Station said:

Gary Kurtz: “When we made Star Wars, Vader and Anakin were two separate people. The idea that Vader was Luke’s father didn’t exist. I remember Lucas talked about Anakin having killed Vader and then taking his identity, but that was dropped early on. The whole twist in Empire was new and unexpected.”

Star Wars Insider #138, 2011

Tosche Station said:

Basically, the Gary Kurtz quote shows that I was wrong. Lucas did NOT merge Vader and Anakin until Empire (ESB), and it was with Empire, not Jedi (ROTJ) that he did this. The earlier ‘father Vader twist’ idea that Lucas had during the writing stage/pre-production of SW (ANH) was dropped before the final version of the script was done.

Or it’s an alternative take from Kurtz.

However, I did find, though I don’t know too much about it, this:

https://i.pinimg.com/736x/50/21/21/5021214ea8807dd151264234afa0276f.jpg

Seemingly an interview with David Prowse before the filming of TESB where Prowse seems to spoil the twist that Vader is Luke’s dad.

Nothing new, unfortunately… as discussed here (if you’d like to read more about it); a few people from around that post SW’77 time were guessing, spit-balling, and throwing out their theories for what could be next for ‘Star Wars II’…

'78 interview with David Prowse [spoilers] - he reveals Vader is Luke’s father - a 2010 thread.

Fair play to you, TS. Not many would admit that. 👍

Unfortunately the above quote found online by TS (via a ‘google search’) does NOT exist in ‘Star Wars Insider #138, 2011’.

Both TS and myself have had a thorough look through Issue #138 of SW Insider (which is actually the issue for January 2013 - and NOT 2011) - and there is no quote or mention of Gary Kurtz in that issue.

I’ve had a look through adjoining issues, the 2011 issues - also online in general - and cannot find such a quote from Gary Kurtz.

It does NOT look like the quote is actually from Gary Kurtz - or exists outside of what TS found in that google search.

If anyone does know of this quote - and where is originates from - please post it up in here. Thanks, as always. 👍

September Edit: as confirmed by Tosche Station - the above quote attributed to Gary Kurtz is indeed a fake.

Kurtz made no such statement - with people now trying to invent online quotes for Gary Kurtz to try and re-write film history.

For anyone interested in when Vader was retconned to become Luke’s father… these may be of interest for further info:-

(from multiple sources - mainly consistent and confirmed - including from Lucasfilm high-ups, Marcia Lucas, & JW Rinzler etc)

• Emre’s two ‘info & image’ posts on the subject here: link & link - citing JW Rinzler and earlier drafts of scripts.

• The 2019 ‘Star Wars Mythbusting’ twitter thread by Lucasfilm Creative Arts Manager Phil Szostak

• and the Marcia Lucas interview in ‘Icons Uncovered’ documentary where she talks about how and when George retconned Vader to be Luke’s father - whilst writing the 2nd draft of Empire Strikes Back (GL, Marcia, Huyk & Katz were all having dinner).

Extreme weather is the UK’s new normal, says Met Office

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c74w1gyd7mko

'The UK is breaking heat and rainfall records increasingly frequently as its climate continues to warm, the Met Office has warned.

The country’s changing weather patterns mean the UK now experiences a “notably different” climate to what it was just a few decades ago, its State of the UK Climate report says.

We now have many more very hot days and many fewer extremely cold nights, according to this latest assessment.

It shows just how much global warming caused by the vast emissions of greenhouse gases our civilisation creates is reshaping the country’s climate.

Climate change is bringing more severe weather events like storms and flooding - and inevitably the country’s changing climate is having an impact on the natural world, with some species suffering.

The report focuses on 2024, when the UK experienced its second warmest February, warmest May, warmest spring, fifth warmest December, and fifth warmest winter since records began in 1884.

The Met Office highlights that some of these records have already been surpassed in 2025 - more evidence of this trend towards more extreme weather.

This summer many parts of the country are in the throes of their third heatwave with very warm weather reaching into Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland as well as southern England.

The first hosepipe ban of the year was imposed in Yorkshire last week following England’s warmest June on record, which came after the country’s driest and sunniest spring for 132 years.

Yorkshire and the north west of England were declared in official drought by the Environment Agency in June. At least one region is expected to be added to the list when the UK’s National Drought Group meets on Tuesday.

Mike Kendon, a Met Office climate scientist and lead author of the State of the UK Climate report, said: "Every year that goes by is another upward step on the warming trajectory our climate is on.

“Observations show that our climate in the UK is now notably different to what it was just a few decades ago.”’

Yeah, I think Mocata was being somewhat sardonic or flippant - given TFN’s history of treating Original Trilogy fans… poorly:-

2️⃣ Ⓓ • Other websites / communities supposed issues with OT•com, the Original Trilogy, or the unaltered theatrical cuts

Of course TFN would seemingly have that majority view… as the likes of Kasdan, Huyck, Katz and others who contributed to the OT are often overlooked or glossed over by many on there - despite being stronger creative writers than those of the ST… and also than George and Hales for the PT. Yet it is baffling that many forget, or neglect to mention, the above contributors.

Though fair play to George when it comes to his writing - he does admit: “I bleed on the page, and it’s just awful…”

What’s overlooking or glossing over? Not caring enough to mention them? I feel like it’s kinda par for the course that when speaking on something the most famous names get brought up more than anyone else. How many speak on Chris Terrio about Batman V Superman/Snydercut JL as an example? Most I see treat that as Snyder’s baby wholesale, as an example.

That really is a poor comparison… 300 pages of threads over 25 years… overlooking and glossing over others who contributed to the Original Trilogy… and you compare it to an example conversation/thread on Batman v Superman?

All whilst ignoring the history of TFN with OOT fans - and outlook in general, even today - as mentioned previously.

Well, you’re in luck - there’s plenty to learn about the many contributions of others to the Original Trilogy on here. 👍

Oh I bet they love us over there.

Been there. I see generally criticism of Lucas’ writing choices as well as other things. Even though the majority seems to err on the side that Lucas was a stronger creative than all of the ST writers. Which is a sentiment I think moreso similarly on.

50th anniversary content | including an official OOT release…?
Starfighter | 28th May, 2027 | theatrical film
Spaceballs II | ? 2027 | theatrical film (yeah, a parody - yet it is one of the few SW-based things I’m looking forward to watching)

Unknown Release Dates for

Dawn Of The Jedi | theatrical film

New Jedi Order - single Rey film | theatrical film
Simon Kinberg’s ‘Rey’ Trilogy | theatrical films

and then we have the films / series seemingly in the long-term ‘in development hell

Tony Gilroy mentioned a ‘Star Wars Horror Movie Is “In the Works”’ - in an interview with Collider. Taika Waititi’s film, maybe?

Henry Dunant

'Henry Dunant won the very first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901.

Passing through Solferino, Italy, during the Second Italian War of Independence, Dunant was appalled at the suffering that he saw. In 1862, he published a book, A Memory of Solferino, which described the efforts that were being made to care for the wounded at the scene. He also proposed a plan.

Dunant suggested the nations of the world should form their own relief societies to care for the wounded and train volunteers on the best ways to treat them. He also wanted the governments of the world to guarantee that wounded soldiers would be treated and that those treating them would be guaranteed safe passage.

Dunant traveled all over Europe promoting his plan, and on August 22, 1864, 12 nations signed the first Geneva Convention, agreeing to “guarantee neutrality to sanitary personnel, to expedite supplies for their use, and to adopt a special identifying emblem—in virtually all instances a red cross on a field of white.”

Henry Dunant had helped to bring about the first Geneva Convention, which has saved the lives of thousands of soldiers around the world. He also founded the Red Cross.’
