Credits from Special Edition 1997 and 2004 are the same?
Time

Anakin94 said:

Hi,
are the credits of the Special Edition 1997 and 2004 the same?

Pretty much, mate.

There seems to be a slight different font used in the 2004 DVDs (less bold looking) - and there are a few odd credits where a person’s name has is omitted or added etc. An example: under ‘Sound Editors’ there is no Richard L Anderson listed in the 2004 credits (where he is listed in the 1997 credits).

I think there are some ‘comparison videos’ up on youtube covering the end credits for the various releases of the Star Wars films - though it has been a while… if you find a good example or two please post them up here. 👍

What lies? What manipulations? Please indulge me, you seem to be an expert.
“advertising hit piece”. Are you ok?

Are you serious? The “professor” says this, making it sound like the editors introduced the following idea in the final battle: “The Death Star was not about to destroy the Rebel Base.” This was a story point since the third draft and in a slightly different manner, it was there in the second draft. Yep, the Death Star was relaxing waiting to be blown up. It totally wasn’t tracking the Millennium Falcon to discover and destroy the hidden Rebel Base. /s And that’s only one lie or how about the times they quote Rinzler’s book, but omit in-between sentences to change the context.
As for advertising, it’s an advertisement for a pretend online film school which, as of writing, no longer exists, lol. It’s a hit piece against George, that’s crystal clear like how the “professor” complains about George changing the text on the terminal from English to Aurebesh as if no one can understand what a bar suddenly decreasing after Obi-Wan turns a lever means, lmao.
I’m perfectly fine thank you very much however you don’t sound ok to me.

“The Death Star was not about to destroy the Rebel Base.” - huh… at 14m 45s into the RocketJump video:-

“But here’s the big difference: in that version [in the script] the Death Star wasn’t about to destroy the Rebel Base. I’ll say that again: the Death Star wasn’t about to destroy the Rebel Base… it was literally just sitting there waiting to be blown up. This is where Marcia Lucas came in: the first thing she did was recut the trench run - basically from the ground up [continues]…” - RocketJump.

…and here is Marcia Lucas in her own words stating she recut the Death Star trench run scenes and introduced the concept of ‘a countdown clock’ for the Death Star to destroy the Rebel Base:-

At 1h 08m 18s into this 2019 fascinating interview with Marcia and Ben Burtt (the whole thing is well worth a watch):-

“The thing that was missing was the ‘time-clock’: like how much time does Luke have to make his shot before something horrible is going to happen… and so we had earlier footage from the film…” [a few seconds later] “so we added that time-element” [continues on - and is very much worth watching]…

So without Marcia introducing that ‘time-element’ - ‘a countdown clock’ - the ‘Death Star wasn’t about to destroy the Rebel Base’… this is what RocketJump alludes to, no?

lakamosque said:

RocketJump’s video is an advertising hit piece for a pretend film school. Blame George for the genuine screw ups he did, but heavily implying he was the cause for every problem in the movie, manipulating and lying, and going “Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!” is so utterly disingenuous. It just makes everyone that wants to see the theatrical versions look bad.

Except, the RJ video didn’t do that. It didn’t do that at all.

“I think George’s ‘ace in the hole’ was that he surrounded himself with an incredible team of people to work with, and listening and collaborating with them to help refine his incredible vision.”

^ The RocketJump video in their summing up.

That not only applies to the editing of the film - but also the overall making of Star Wars itself. Not forgetting, of course, that near-on all films are ‘made’ / ‘saved’ in the editing process - “they say a film is written three times; first in the screenplay, next in production, and finally… in the edit.”

And yet so what if it did highlight Marcia’s contributions, or Richard Chew, or Paul Hirsch - or all 3 of them. Why not? It doesn’t take away from George - nor attacks or discredits him - it simply highlights the effect good and clever editing can have upon a film.

It was after George fan-boys & zealots watched that vitriolic Nerdonymous video did they seemed to be triggered into somehow thinking what you claim above.

Rocketjump’s video is ‘A video essay exploring how Star Wars’ editors recut and rearranged Star Wars: A New Hope to create the cinematic classic it became’ and is about the power and effects of film editing in general. The RJ video does indeed feature a few factual errors - though some of Nerdonymous claims and statements in his video are obviously nothing to do with RocketJump… but Nerdonymous’ own issues with fans he considers not to like George Lucas - or fans seemingly acknowledging or praising others’ contributions to the making of the Original Trilogy.

Including issues including this community.

^ Nerdonymous seems to get quite triggered and angry about it too… the agenda seething through… as he progresses with his “some fans”“they want to burn him (Lucas) to the ground” & “they want to take everything away from him” spiel; whilst showing a FactRepublic image stating some of Marcia’s contributions to the film, and some of what she edited - for which she won an Oscar for (along with Hirsch and Chew).

So when you try to claim: “It just makes everyone that wants to see the theatrical versions look bad.” - is that an attempt at gaslighting? (I hope not). If it is, kindly knock it off. You may want to think about wising up there - doing something a little more constructive other than being an apologist for a vitriolic youtuber… who has issues with fan preservations.

On here, we acknowledge and highlight the many contributions of everyone who worked on the Original Trilogy films - especially those who have been written out of the official history, or have had their roles downplayed, or diminished.

There is more information on Marcia’s contributions (and many others) which can be found here…

George's museum - the 'Lucas Museum of Narrative Art' (in LA, set to open in 2022)
Time

https://variety.com/2025/film/news/george-lucas-museum-of-narrative-art-comic-con-first-look-1236471545

'After breaking ground in 2018, Hall H got its first look at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art before it’s set to open its futuristic doors in 2026. With a personal collection from George Lucas’s 50-year art archive, the museum is set to feature artwork and never-before-seen pieces from Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, Jessie Willcox Smith and more. The panel was moderated by Queen Latifah, with Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang as panelists.

It’s been a long time coming for the Lucas Museum since it was first announced. In 2016, the museum was initially set to begin construction in Chicago near Lake Michigan. After a Chicago-based organization named “Friends of the Parks” filed a lawsuit over the construction on private land, the museum selected Los Angeles as its official building site near Exposition Park.

“I’ve been doing this for 50 years now, and then it occurred to me that I don’t know what I am going to do with [all the art] because I refuse to sell it,” Lucas said at his first San Diego Comic-Con appearance. “Art is more about an emotional connection. Not how much it cost, or what celebrity made it. If you have an emotional connection, then it’s art. I’ve worked with hundreds of illustrators in my life, and they’re all brilliant, but they don’t get recognized for anything. This museum is a temple to the people.”

The history of LucasFilm at San Diego Comic-Con has existed for over 50 years, with the first “Star Wars” having a panel during the 1976 iteration of the convention. Fans who attended the event got to see still images from “A New Hope,” where Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin discussed artwork from “Star Wars.”

“It’s one thing that this kind of art [featured] will celebrate because of science fiction. Science fiction is a myth, but we have made it real,” revealed Lucas about the museum’s science fiction artworks set to be displayed. “Humans made it real because of science fiction books and art that makes people say, ‘Oh, we could go to the moon,’ and once that idea is implemented, then we believe we could do it.”’

George is getting up in front of a live Comic Con audience???

I hope there’s a Q&A and I hope Connor Ratliff is there

Ha, we can only wish.

I’m guessing it’ll likely be a talk - followed by a few pre-approved questions asked by a moderator/presenter?

about the 1997 version DVD which was mentioned earlier: it was released on DVD as a part of Fox’s Five Star collection set. I have heard most people criticise this DVD, but because I have even after 2 years, found no copy of this widescreen home media 1997 version, I can not say anything.

It was not an official release by Fox at all - it was a bootleg.

Many of the older members on here likely still likely have this set from Far East Asia - it was a decent quality bootleg at the time… and was considered to be amongst the higher-rated bootlegs from that era.

The ‘Five Star’ release was a laserdisc-to-DVD transfer, in letterbox widescreen, each OT film being on a DVD9 disc, and despite the cover claiming it had ‘5.1 DTS’ audio… it did not. Though it did have a few nice extras on the discs - a menu screen with options! A 1997 SE film trailer, chapter selection, subtitle options, and audio options.

There is more about it here: 1997 SE - Five Star Collection - any interest in a Preservation? (Released) and in…

1997 Special Edition OT Preservation Projects (+ discussions) in An Index Of Projects for… Star Wars Preservations

by the way, are these 1997 Special Editions available on any torrent sites etc as rips? I have found a few but they have 0 seeders.

The 1997 SE ‘Five Star’ DVD bootlegs - as well as 15+ other 1997 Special Edition projects are all available here:-

📍 250+ available Original Trilogy Preservations - some from a long time ago . . . . 📍

^ Though none are available to you.

Your trolling… within your 1997SE project, unwillingness to provide sources for it, your repeated nonsensical and vague claims - despite being informed & corrected by many on here and TSWT (who have proven time and time again you have little grasp of facts & history - and you being completely unwilling to learn from them), as well as you kicking off at the mods on TSWT resulting in your ban… made that an easy decision.

Maybe you’ll find them elsewhere online - good luck with that.

Here’s the “rumour”

Because now the well-known “Star Wars” YouTuber EckhartsLadder reports that documents have been leaked to him by a source that prove that Lucasfilm is working on a restoration of the original theatrical versions of all three titles of the original trilogy. He assumes that the plan is to make these available on Disney+ as an extra in the future.

So, I have a fairly big, genuine bit of Star Wars news to leak.

In short: Lucasfilm is in the process of restoring the Star Wars Original Trilogy for public release. Probably on D+.

And there is proof.

I’ll explain as much as I can, though there are limits to what I can share. pic.twitter.com/09sXXaiqcY

— EckhartsLadder (@EckhartsLadder) July 8, 2025

Yup, zero actual evidence, although I did track down a reddit thread where the person who first brought it to Eck’s attention breaks down beat by beat exactly how they found out about it.

Considering the amount of detail they go into, it sounds like the kind of thing you just couldn’t make up if you tried. So yeah, it certainly seems like it could finally be legit this time. Obviously there’s no point in getting our hopes up until it’s actually happening, and even then it’ll be up to us to judge the final results.

IF this project is real… and actually sees the light of day… it does indeed look like it’ll be the ‘closest to the theatrical’ colour-wise since the early/mid-1990s analogue releases. The quality so far, as discussed elsewhere online, seems second to none, (from the OCN, along with other high quality sources).

It’d certainly be a far cry from the underwhelming substandard 2004SE, 2011SE, and 2019SE releases… that lacked the care and attention (+ QC) such releases deserved. Maybe this release would… actually be up there with how the theatrical cuts stunned the audiences in theatres all those years ago. There certainly seems to be much thorough, detailed, and impressive work going about the way of achieving just that.

fanO.U.Tpreserver4K77 said:

Agreed, yeah, I doubt that Disney will give us the theatrical versions of the trilogy. They never care about our opinion or Georges opinion, cough the sequel trilogy cough. Although they may have a private screening of the theatrical versions, if they release it to the public, it’ll probably by the same quality, if not worse, than the GOUT DVDs. Besides, Disney ruins everything so I’d rather watch Harmy’s Despecializeds and 4K77-83 and burn them onto a BD-R. Plus, you can just download Nearsighted Scrappile’s Custom BD-50 ISO’s files of the 4K77-4K83 trilogy. Although if Disney does confirm does at least its nice to know they’re thinking about it. I don’t know.

Really?

SOURCES

the sources of this preservation are clear, but there were, I am unsure if still are, debates of this.

I used only one source for each movie. The first movie’s source comes from a 1997 print. seemingly the same master was used for 4K97-4, but I am not sure, the scrathes are similar to 4K97-4 but I am not sure is it the same master.

The second movie: I used a print from 1998. It has colours in the other side of the image, but I am once again not sure why.

The third movie: it has rounded corners, I am not sure why, but some debated it was from 4K97, which it is not from.

Could you actually list the sources you used for this project, please? As per the Site Rules for Fan Projects:-

  1. The source of all materials used in fan edits and preservation efforts must be cited, including retail releases, laserdisc transfers, special features, menus, covers, and artwork.

Visions: Season 2, Episode 1: Sith

Everything about the episode - from start to finish - all 14 minutes… captivating, mesmerising and fully engaging. I’m so glad I watch just 1 episode per day of Season 2 of Visions - giving some time to take in each episode - rather than binge them and then have certain episodes ‘get lost’ in the fog.

I was keenly anticipating this - Visions S1xE1 had a fantastic start with ‘The Duel’ - so I knew the first episode of Season 2 would likely be right up there… and this did not disappoint. The cinematography, direction, pacing, the story… all hitting the very highest notes for me. I think I’ve watched episode this 10-15 times now - and am completely absorbed by it each and every time.

Star Wars Visions - SITH - Behind the Scenes - a 4 minute youtube video from the official El Guiri Studios channel.

Season 3 of Visions starts on Wednesday 29th October, 2025. Hopefully the opener will be up there with this and The Duel. 👍

Hey, could you also PM me this? I can’t PM you since my account is too new.

In general, simply sending a PM is the default way of asking for fan projects on here (unless indicated / instructed otherwise in the project thread)

❕ I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation I am interested in - but I don’t know how to get / acquire / download it? ❕

Please note that cluttering up the project threads with ‘link request’ posts is not only poor form - but is also against the rules & guidelines here - the reasons for which can be found below…

ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS: “Link begging” posts will be deleted without notice - in Announcements

^ Not being able to send a PM because your account is new… is NOT a reason to make ‘link request’ posts on here.

'The Star Wars lightsaber used by villain Darth Vader will go under the hammer for the first time.

The weapon and duelling prop used in the 1980s films, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi, will go up for auction in September.

The live auction, hosted by memorabilia auction house Propstore, coincides with the 45th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, with the prop estimated to sell at £746,000 to £2,241,000. (US $1m - US $3m)

The lightsaber was used during duels in the final acts of both films between Darth Vader, played by David Prowse, and Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill.

It was also used by the stunt performer and British Olympic fencer, Bob Anderson.

According to the auction house, genuine lightsaber props from the original trilogy are rare with this “believed to be the only hero lightsaber prop from the original Star Wars trilogy with verifiable screen use ever to be offered at public auction”.’
