Anyways, on the cloaking device debate:  Just seconds earlier we hear the imperial officer say "no ship this size has a cloaking device". It would be weird to have Boba's ship go into cloaking mode just moments afterwards. The scene also shows that while Han is able to outsmart the empire, he has met his match with Boba, who uses the same tactic on him.

There's a debate? I only made that mock up cause someone requested it and I thought it sounded fun to do! Sorry if anyone thought I was seriously suggesting it should be used.

Though as someone else already mentioned, seeing Slave 1 use a cloaking device would actually make Captain Needa's line have a whole new meaning... to have a real meaning besides being a throwaway line, actually! And would show that Captain Needa didn't really know as much about cloaking devices as he thought he did, and making Imperial Officers look pretty bad in the process.

BUT... as I said already, my mock up was never meant to be taken seriously as a consideration for adding to ESB:R. (ALL THE OTHER ONES ARE! Just saying....)

I will not mention the copy paste :) but how i hate the red shadows.

I've always hated that shot, when the Falcon turns, the SD's seem... off.

YES! awesome man! it looks alien and demon too :D

I love your ideas! keep them coming!

I hope ady still have his tracking points saved :)

I actually used a photo of a horse's eye and kept the glare in the eye, because in movies, anytime glare is removed from eyes, they look dead. That's why the tiny reflection of lights is never digitally removed from actors eyes and such. But the glare ended up being too big, and sort of creates that alien/demon look... strange side effect of my mock up, but not bad.

With the exception of the cloaked Slave 1 mock up, I usually find myself hoping Ady will take some of these ideas and improve upon them too!

I remember a long while back, someone (I forget who, sorry) mentioned changing the eyes of the Taun Taun to appear more animal-like...

... well, here's my mock up attempt at doing just that. Though it didn't come out quite how I expected... the Tuan Taun has eyes that appear more alien than horse or cow, but since I put in all this work (it was pretty tedious), then I am going to share it, even if it isn't the best mock up!

No, not really. I threw in Boba Fett's laugh from AOTC (technically it's still the same character, and is almost like a call-back to AOTC), but with the pitch lowered to sound less like a kid's voice.

why dont you use the one from lego star wars?
its the new voice of jango (morrison) though

I didn't make the mock up as a true fan edit idea. It was just for fun on my part, which was why I added in the laugh at all. Otherwise, I would have left the ending of the scene as is.

Your so gullible. lol. Killing Lando was never going to be part of my edit, but was being considered as a special feature only. Only the PT will be getting ripped apart. There will be some changes in jedi but none will be drastic in a way that will change the story. Yes there will be a new ending but that's being kept a secret. The Lando thing came about because so many people kept asking about the ending so i made one up.

Don't hate me :)

Just when I was getting to like that idea LOL.

I'm glad it wasn't a real idea for ROTJ:R, myself. I didn't like that idea at all... but I also am not one to tell fan editors what they can or cannot do!

I'd say this thread really doesn't have much going for it at all anymore. Let's put a spork in it!

Neat! It would be a funny jab at the quality of Imperial intelligence if  "a ship that size"  did have a cloaking device.

That's actually a funny way to look at it, which almost justifies adding it into any other fan edit that is not ESB:R!

If anyone does their own edit, feel free to take any ideas I come up with if you like them. That's why I do them in the first place... though I'm still somewhat bummed about not being able to get a hold of a good high quality image of the Falcon dashboard, even now!

And apologies all around for going off topic... but now even I'm starting to run out of ideas for fixes to add to ESB:R!

No reason. Just having fun with editing! There is also some subtle audio changes to when Slave 1 gets close to the camera, as a sort of sound effect for the ship's cloak kicking in.

Also, another change that nobody seemed to notice in the last few Falcon mockups that I've done is that the engine remains blue consistently.

No story changes... okay I can see that.

Do timeline changes count? I've been quite fond of the whole idea of Luke being on Dagobah before going to Jabba's, that has been going around the forum... it make's it seem like Luke has been training a lot between ESB and ROTJ, rather than Luke fulfilling his promise to return, which even as a kid I thought was kinda lame, storywise.

This seems like something Ady would have already caught (IF he considered it a continuity error)... but I did not see it listed anywhere as a fix, so...

... I took it upon myself to do a mockup:

Even in 1997, the SE shot bothered me, not because it was poorly done, but because it seems to break continuity! In one shot, the Falcon and Slave 1 pull out of the garbage trail... only to wind up back in it again!

Deja vu? Groundhog day? Hmm...

i haven't listed it as a fix because the scene is being changed

Well that's a reply I wasn't expecting! Very interesting....

Something like that, but have the engines slowly 'warm up'....not just 'turn on'.

I tried recreating it just now, with a slower "warm up" like you said... but it ended up looking too similar to the first attempt anyway. The Falcon simply doesn't "freeze" long enough for a warm up to look "natural". It's too brief for a convincing warm up. I literally can only say "one-one thousand" during the time that the Falcon stops floating until it's engine's boost off. One second is way too short.

The float version is the better looking fix, in my opinion.

Personally, I prefer my other mockup video... where the Falcon continues to float instead. The Falcon doesn't sit idle long enough, so it kinda looks weird to me when the engine turns on and it sits two seconds then flies off.

So, if I had to pick, this would be the fix I would go with:

But hey, both are there to compare now, so you can all decide for yourselves...

Well it's supposed to be "floating away" with the rest of the garbage just like Solo said ain't it? I think it's fine as it is.

Well that's the whole point... it CEASES to float! Watch the video closer and you'll see what I mean.

I agree, OR. A nice subtle boost is all that's needed — no need to show the "grille" effect, something more resembling the Death Star escape is more appropriate.

I agree with no grill visual, as Ady had a good argument against using it in the other shots, since the engine had already been on long enough to be more lit up... but the Death Star escape still convinces me that the Bespin platform escape could use a little tweaking with the Falcon blasting off.

I think the engine looks so lit up already in the Bespin shot, that it just has to be downplayed and toned down while the Falcon is lifting off the ground, then blow back up to the original look as it is taking off. I don't know how possible that is to do with the existing shot, but someone like Ady could probably figure out a way to do it (but only if he wanted to.)

The main problem is that the original footage has a very strong engine glow and its impossible to remove this to make it more toned down. The sound FX do seem a bit out of place in this shot though so something may be done, but this may happen when i get to the audio side of things

Damn, that sucks about the engine glow, as I think it would be completely appropriate to have the engine blasting off in that scene, like in the Death Star escape. Oh well, I tried!

How about this? I would like to see a heat blur added to the torture scene, to better sell Han's reaction to the intense heat coming out of the torture device.

Here's a (poorly done) example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USHKc08NEYg

Now while this is a good idea it does create a problem with all later shots of han. If this device produces so much heat to cause this amount of pain then why isn't his shirt scorched? Put something white next to an electric bar fire as close as han is to the device and see just what the heat would have done to his shirt. Just look how far away he is when he first reacts. that thing would have to produce some intense heat to cause a reaction like that. I've been thinking of adding some electrical arcs hitting han as he is lowered but i won't be adding a heat haze.

Hmm, I suppose it all depends on how long we can assume Han was tortured. As Han said "they never even asked me any questions," so it's safe to assume the entire time spent was on just inflicting pain upon Han, without interrogation.

Also, how long can someone stand over a fully pre-heated open oven door before having any marks from it? I was just assuming that the heat was enough to be painful, but not enough to leave any marks, just like how Vader said "he will not be permanently damaged," so maybe the heat wasn't intense enough to burn his shirt, coat, or skin, but was enough to be torturous if exposed to for long periods of time.

But, the final word has been spoken on this subject....

So I will take this opportunity to bring up a question I asked before:

oh_riginal said:

I didn't see this listed as a fix listed anywhere so...

I noticed, while rewatching the Falcon floating amongst the trail of garbage in space, that just before it turns its engines on (yeah, I was watching the shot originally for more engine goodness), it seems to freeze in "mid-air" for a few frames, as if it stopped floating before the engines even came on, which doesn't make any sense to me.

Should the Falcon not have kept floating until the engines caused it to move? The engine isn't even on yet, and the Falcon freezes.

Anyone else besides me see this as an issue?

One way to fix this would be to either have the engine light up sooner (but not blast off yet) to explain why the Falcon suddenly stopped floating, OR to make it so that the Falcon continues to float along for that extra few frames before blasting off.

Your thoughts, Ady?

Also, (and this might just be me), I can't seem to find Slave 1 among the garbage in the shots of the garbage floating from the Star Destroyer, and in the shot of the Falcon blasting out of there. I understand Han and co. are supposed to be fooled by not noticing Boba's ship among the debris, but as far as continuity goes, should we as the viewers not be able to see the shape of the ship in the earlier shots?

Or did I just see the ship and was completely unable to recognize it?

I'm starting to feel like I'm getting really nitpicky here....

So, any thoughts on fixing the paused Falcon among the garbage?

Here is an example of what it may look like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc-2v7KIQ5s

I like the idea of the heat blur. I think it can be most effective if it's very subtle. Which is something AdY is good at.

Visually it would remind me of that burst of heat in your face when you open your oven door. Imagine being forced to endure that AND more while strapped down. Jeez.

Yes, the mock-up I created on youtube isn't too subtle, but I made it that way to get the idea across clearly. I agree that the Ady version (if he were to adopt the idea) should be a lot more subtle.

brash_stryker said:

No need to add evidence of torture. Han's "I feel terrible" is more than sufficient. The only thing that could be added is an effect of the air warping from the heat like someone has already mentioned, but i hesitate to suggest it as that would just mean more work for Adywan.

I hate to assume, but it seems like this would be one of the easier effects for Ady to do. I mean, that mock-up only took me 5-10 minutes to figure out. It's not great, but it gets the idea across. I would think Ady would figure out a way to create a better version if he chose to take on this idea.
