STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I was thinking a bit more subtle, but that's definitely the right idea!

Ady, I know you do sound after completely finishing the visual side of things, but after watching the scene again (with the volume up this time) the lightsaber strike sounds less like a saber hitting metal grating and more like metal hitting metal.

Maybe that can be changed? Just a thought. Thanks.

And I'm sorry to hear of the things happening in your life as of late. My condolences.

However, nothing visual happens during the strike to the floor. No sparks, no light from sparks, nothing.

In later scenes when Luke and Vader's sabers strike walls and handrails, there are either sparks or cuts. The same for Return of the Jedi when Luke hits the handrails before defeating Vader, there were sparks flying each time his saber hit the handrails.

I would have done a mockup, but I wouldn't know how to create sparks, if they would be visible. But if no sparks would be visible, at least the flash of light from the sparks should be, right?

Hell sure, why not?

Long time no post, but I did a topic search and found nothing on this idea posted previously, so I'm going to ask about it.

In this scene, when Vader swings his saber down to hit Luke and misses, you can hear his saber hit the floor.

I provided screencaps to show this.

Saber just before striking floor:

Saber hitting floor:

Cut to next shot, same moment of saber striking floor:

Vader's saber lifting off the floor after strike, as Luke begins to roll down stairs:

I would have done a mockup, but I wouldn't know how to create sparks, if they would be visible. But if no sparks would be visible, at least the flash of light from the sparks should be, right?

Thanks for reading.

So Ady, does the final Emperor hologram still say "young Skywalker" or does it say "Luke Skywalker"?

As Ady just said, he hasn't gotten around to the audio side of things. But I am hoping that he will try to add the "Luke" in there, since it has been proven to be possible already.

New Clip Comparison

Long time no post from me on the forums, from being just way too busy...

... but THANK YOU, Ady, for that last moment of the clip!!! I remember really trying to get this change put into consideration for the edit, regarding the engine boost! You're the man!

Recall Admiral Ackbar's reaction to the destruction of the Executor? That's how I feel....

Haha dont worry i dont hate you at all. Was just an idea i had and did it, ppl found it funny whereas i didnt mean it in a humorous way just kinda get hayden/sebastian mix lol

Assuming that Yoda and Obi Wan are dressed in the same clothes they had on when they died, then logically, shouldn't Vader appear the same?

Not the most peaceful looking Jedi ghost... but whatever!

Cute as the Tauntaun trophy is it does represent so much of what is wrong about ROTJ, sticking stuff in because they have paid for it already makes sense in terms of saving money but if Hoth was meant to be the middle of nowhere how the hell did that head get there.

It makes the Star Wars universe a much smaller place and kind of takes you out of the moment and yes I did notice it when I was 13 because I had been inspecting every publicity photograph I could get my hands on for months before the film came out.

The same with bloody medical droids in the briefing room.

Boba Fett appearing in some capacity in the film pales in terms of how those little things grate for me (and they are easier to remove too).

It looks like a joke photoshop job (like sticking an Alien skull in Predator 2).

I was never really sure that the taun tauns were native to Hoth at all. I had always assumed the taun tauns were cold climate animals from another planet that found even Hoth to be too cold if they were out in the snow for too long (hence one dying from the lower-than-they-are-used-to temperatures). They seemed like animals easily tamed and mountable, brought to Hoth after the Rebellion chose the planet as their next hidden base, and not some random animal that just so happened to be conveniently mountable upon the Rebel's arrival.

But, this is just my assumption, and there is nothing to say it is canon or not.

Wouldn't be surprised if I'm in the minority about being bothered by this (I usually am with my ESB Falcon engine issues), but in this particular SE shot of the Falcon flying through Cloud City, I strongly feel that the engine glow is extended too far out.

In just about every other shot of the Falcon from a side view in the OT, the glow never extends this far out at all (including the launch from Hoth when Luke is walking in the foreground.)

The only time the glow should extend like this is in scenes where the Falcon is blasting off (like the Docking Bay 94 sequence in ANH or when the Falcon turns around to face the Star Destroyer in ESB), but in this Cloud City shot, it is very clear that the Falcon is just coasting along at a cruising speed, so the glow seems to be overdone in my opinion. It looks worse to me in motion, but I didn't feel it necessary to post a video with no mock-ups done to it.

Just a thought.

There won't be a v2 or ANH:R. i was only going to do this to add a commentary track and maybe 1 or 2 minor tweaks, but i'm not going to do a commentarty track, so that's it i'm afraid.

:-(

Sad, but understandable. Do you really want to talk about the edit for two whole hours? I mean, I could, and do each time I show it to someone, but you're probably tired of it.

Have Ric Olie do the commentary.

Just something I noticed while doing a bit of editing.........

Boba Fetts Gun

That shouldn't be to hard to fix. Good eye Dave!!!!!!!!

This is not what it seems.

Boba Fett's laser rifle has a built in rocket launcher which fires the front end of his gun completely over the heads of any attacker.

Utterly useless but it looks cool (and that's what counts isn't Mr Fett?).

Not only that, but it also shows how inexperienced Luke REALLY is as a Jedi, as he has still not mastered the art of blocking with his lightsaber... so in a sense, Boba won this round, and that is the evidence in the gif.

Yes, that's the scene I was referring to. Too bad we don't have a video version to watch for how it looks, but as soon as I saw that in the movie I automatically thought "ESB:R!"

007, I don't recall which segment of the movie the scene appears exactly, but I think it is shortly after first seeing the Enterprise for the first time in the movie.

No love for my shrunken Death Star laser operators??

I also suggested more turret action from the Falcon, but that might be covered somewhat already in some of those suggestions.

What's the link for the video you did? And not only is the turret suggestion on there, I liked it so much and I couldn't phrase it right so I just copied and pasted what you wrote and credited it to you! ;-)

Angel Blue01, I'll be adding some of your points to the list as well. Thanks for the pictures, they really help.

Ady, will you be making any changes to the glass screens in echo base? They don't seem to be very helpful and yet the woman somehow knows when to launch the first transport (I think someone mentioned this but I can't find it so...)

This bothers me as well. I remember noticing in the new Star Trek movie that there was a similar glass panel used that I thought would be nice as a visual example of how to upgrade the glass panels of the Hoth base, but I don't exactly have a visual reference to show, seeing as the movie isn't out on DVD yet.

If you really want to save Boba Fett, why not just edit him out of Jedi all together? After all, there's no particular reason he has to be there. But if you really want to keep him, just have him in the Palace and then not on the sail barge.

It's not as if every character from the Palace could squeeze onto that sail barge.

A lot of people do want to remove him altogether. The scenerio I proposed was to keep him in but give him a reason for being there (as you say he has none in any of the current versions, other than to appeal to the inner Ric Olié of fandom and to tick off Lucas' got rid of list).

Love the new mattes.

I wonder what it would be like with a real sky with some slight movement in the clouds?

I guess the cloud movement in my mock-up from a few weeks ago was too subtle? I kinda thought so, but also didn't want to overdo it.

Another problem with all this discussion about what the phenomena at the end of Empire is, is that we're evaluating it based on astronomical photography, which isn't really that reliable as it is rarely standard optical photography. However, that is the common conception of what interstellar phenomena look like, and perhaps the wisest choice artistically.

One of the physicists talking about it over on theforce.net says it can't be a galaxy because galaxies don't really look like that to the naked eye, which is what we're seeing in that scene. But he completely overlooks the fact that 99.9% of people sitting in a movie theatre won't have any idea that a spiral galaxy is substantially dimmer and actually pretty hard to see with the naked eye. Most of us think they're bright white (sometimes yellowish) with spiral arms around a bright bulbous centre, but that's not true.

Not that any of this matters a jot, as long as the image looks good on screen while not negatively impacting on the narrative.

My problem is, if we are to accept that a galaxy can be seen like that to the naked eye, then wouldn't that same galaxy be shown a LOT in all of the movies? It would be something you would always see if it were that close to the Star Wars galaxy, just as no matter which part of earth you're on you are able to see the sun.

However, as a forming star, it would only be visible if you were near it. Get far enough away and it can't be seen (or at least as noticeable) anymore. Sorta like seeing a car on the side of the road. Drive along far enough away and that car fades out of sight.

I hope I'm making sense... but that's why I choose to believe it is a forming star, and not some neighbor galaxy, billions of miles away, yet close enough to be in view from the galaxy where the story takes place.

EDIT: Nevermind... guess I should read the next page before typing up a reply.

I don't care what Ady does. ANH:R just proves he is a master of his craft.

Of course George Lucas was a one trick pony with Star Wars.

Special Editions be damned, we still wouldn't be able to enjoy Ady's work without the existence of Lucas. I get why people bash him, but I don't see how we can take away ALL the credit.

Besides, I liked THX-1138 and American Graffiti... not as much as the OT, but still.

I loved THX-1138 and American Graffiti.

Well, it is a trilogy! Sure, Lucas didn't direct ESB, but he still had a heavy hand in making the movie. I'd say ANH and ESB back-to-back doesn't necessarily make him a one-trick pony.

And ROTJ has its moments, as does the PT. I completely understand why people bash the PT, but it DOES have its moments... otherwise why would a lot of us own them or at least know them so well?

Oh! I much prefer the forming star interpretation. At the end the tragedy that is ESB, when it seems the universe has turned on our heroes, we are gifted with witnessing the birth of a star system; a foreshadowing of hope as the fleet drifts past, inexorably carrying our protagonists toward their dark and uncertain future...

Roll credits.

That's a nice image.

Great interpretation. Couldn't have said it better.

Also, I don't see why the image needs updating. It doesn't look too bad at all the way it is, especially in motion.
