The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Director's Cut (Released)
Time
Yes - it's actually a bit doubtful this release will make it to Netflix. But we'll see.

One of my usual sources who I thank very much has sent in some scans of drawings from the witch in a basket scene - has a whole stack of them, but lacks the time and big scanner to scan more than a few. Also the German version of the Liquidator titles, and another version of a bit of a Williams Commercials showreel from 1986, which is short and doesn't have anything I don't on it sadly ....

Doctor Who: The Ten Doctors (Released)
Time
Tim Kocher wrote and asked if this could become a full hourlong episode.

I did it as a long trailer to hide the problems of working with found footage.

As I said to him ...

I have no doubt that a wonderful 2-hour adventure could be done with the Ten Doctors together, but to make it work, the KEY would be to shoot new footage with Doctors 7-10 and companions, and preferably get new voice work from 4-6 and companions. You can make old footage say something completely different than it used to, but it does require careful writing of a new "other side" of the conversation. Somebody call Russell T ....

I've put away the editing gloves on this one for now, but I would consider revisiting it in the future, though in a different way. I would do an opening act ... select clips from different episodes for all the 10 Doctors, showing what they're doing before they all meet. I know that 9 would mostly be Boomtown, 10 would be Rise of the Cybermen, and 6 would be In a Fix With Sontarans (as seen on the DVD). Stuart Humphryes just did a short colorized opening clip of the First Doctor which he intended to be the intro to a hypothetical Tennant episode ... stealing my ideas as I steal his colorizations. =)

PAL and NTSC DVD versions of this 7min trailer are now at the torrent site with Demon in its name.

The trailer was edited in PAL format, so the PAL version is the better of the two.

They're small and both should download fast.

Both versions feature an extra scene with Tegan and the 6th Doctor from Jim'll Fix It, that didn't make it into this trailer.

The PAL version also has a secret extra audio track of the trailer without music, that's not at all in sync for some reason (running slightly too fast). Hence it being secret.

The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Director's Cut (Released)
Time
I'm working on it.

A bit more secondhand words on Dick's reaction .... Mo (his wife) said that they had heard about this fan effort from several people, and were surprised that I hadn't contacted them (I did actually, but I don't think they received it ... or hadn't yet) ... and were also surprised that no one from corporate Disney had attacked yet.

Developments should ensue ...

As for the November release, I assumed that that was the same as the September release. Anyone have any info on it? Dave is also the only one to suggest the November release will be 2 discs.

This Amazon listing for "Arbian Knight" seems to refer to the November release.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HLDFO0/sr=1-2/qid=1156708952/ref=sr_1_2/103-9589579-9308640?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

There is no info apart from it being apparently the Arabian Knight cut (73 min), and released by "Genius Products, Inc" in NTSC. It seems odd that some random company rather than the Weinsteins would release it. No mention of 2 discs and the price is identical to the Weinstein effort.

Could be an overseas release, perhaps Japan.

I am very convinced there will be nothing special about these releases from what little info I've gleaned, and the lack of rumblings at Disney itself (that we've heard). Seems to be a Weinstein only rerelease, and a quickie.

That said, it's lovely they're doing this as even a widescreen viewing of Arabian Knight shows parts of this film to more people.

And the DVD art shows more respect for the animation scholars who enjoy this film, even if the actual cut doesn't. I expect that this will be a more reverential treatment of a shoddy edit.

I'm amused that our internet revisionism has infiltrated Amazon.com to the point where they list the original cast rather than the Miramax cast, and the opening lines of the workprint and everything.

Two discs?

You're mistaken there Dave unless you have some info I don't.

In fact, Amazon fills in all the blanks we need:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GFLKE4/ref=ord_cart_shr/103-9589579-9308640?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance&n=130

The price is $13.99. It says it's one disc, says it's the Arabian Knight cut, and is widescreen. Which is better than Region 1 has gotten before.

There's new poster art up there. Although Amazon lists the film and DVD as "Arabian Knight," the new poster clearly says "The Thief and the Cobbler" on it. The poster is very similar to the Theatrical poster for Arabian Knight, which was a subtle piece of work with Prince Tack and Yumyum in silhouette against a night sky (intended to evoke memories of a similar scene in Aladdin, as well as Aladdin's original subtle "lamp" poster). However, this new DVD version shows facial features for Tack and Yumyum clearly - they're stylized and look strange. And of course the title is given as The Thief and the Cobbler with the logo from the Miramax VHS release.

This is a rush release, but it's good to have Arabian Knight in widescreen in region 1, for a reasonable price. I do believe that this was inspired by recent internet interest in the film .... those Weinstein boys work fast, don't they ....
