Star Wars in 50 years.
Time

With the second wave of tv series, SW will be primarily discussed in that context.  The movies are this backdrop.  Like some of the book, they flesh out details, provide context, but there are not pressing towards the current creations dicussion, the tv shows.

I'd guess in under 10 years, fan editing using the LFL archives will be done through the SW.app.  That makes the movies more ubiquitous, if you want to speak using only Anthony Daniels voice you can.  And this just drives some people towards the tv shows.

But the tv shows might not generate that cultural spark.  So expect dwindling fan interaction.  No major drops, just long slow fade.  SW will enter that, hey that was a milestone movie category, but with all media available, it'll be digested and replaced with the next video.  People won't watch video material as repeatedly as they do now.  With everything ever created available, why watch the same thing twice.  A societal split will begin with a few who choose to be data-attached at all times, they become the knowledge class (they are revoked of any citizenship at this point) and a few will dedicate themselves to SW.  Can't imagine what this data-attached knowledge class will bicker about since they'll have consumed 1,000,000 times more SW shit then what the people of this forum have read/watched/processed.  So with the general public constantly blip-verting from experience to experience, relying on the knowledge class to guide decision making.

So that leads us to the bored BFA student Bingowings introduced us to.  After the success of her 'Planet Battle' films, she is tapped by the severed head of George Lucas (part of the knowledge class) to direct the OT Sequels.

Star Wars Saga 3D Conversion (* files are password protected - no known password *)
Time

Going with the 'Sensio' option, uncovered an old blue/red glasses probably got from a box of cereal. And it works. Have only downloaded to just before entering the Rebel Blockade Runner, so don't have enough adequate discussion, but the RBR and SD pass over do have some depth with the primitive glasses option. Would expect with proper gear this to be good.

The 20th Century Fox logo, definitely pops. The background with moving clouds read far away, the logo prominently centered and the 'news corporation' registers closest.

The Lucasfim logo, is meh. there's no 3d stuff there anyway.

The Star Wars recedeing, seems like it's sphereized and getting smaller, more then it feels that it's receding.

The crawl, left-right wobbles a bit. But keep in mind i'm using the least preferred viewing method on the list. and as it recedes it goes red. again probably because of the conversion process. It's probably difficult to get the hard font graphics to interact with the 3D process.

As said before the RBR/SE pass over is very good. A good sense of depth, and the colors look true, no overwhelming blue or red shifting halo. The first explosion went all blocky for a frame or two. But the second did not. The SD so far is great, you get pulled into how big it is, and the RBR travel away camera. The three major planets read slightly different. ...but that's all i've got so far, stops just as the cargo bay passes over.

So great work, look forward to the rest of it. Hoping that i'm missing a setting or two which would get closer to what a read 3DTV might provide.

Since this is all so foreign, would love to read some tutorials, to understand what that left hand image is providing. Sounds like it's not really an image it's a 3D field modification layer. Don't get how the process take the information from the left and modifies the right. If anyone downloads the Stereoscopic Player, flip between the options, there are multiple ways it seems, some results are quite surprising.

This is all new to me, so i'll write out the challenges as I come across them. (the short version I cannot adequately review this at the moment)

Downloads are fine. Currently have two segments which i've expanded and that should be the first minute or two. Seems to be a traditional VIDEO_TS, and in VLC, you get what Neptune was showing, two side by side images. The right looking like a normal file, just squooshed and the left has some process applied to it. Very apparent when looking at the opening crawl

So the first problem is to find a player. from FAQ's like this:

http://www.dzignlight.com/stereo/erics_stereoscopic_faq.shtml#macintosh

There are no Mac 'stereoscopic player'

Was able to find this PC one:

http://www.3dtv.at/Downloads/Index_en.aspx

Ok so open Neptune's VIDEO_TS into 'Stereoscopic Player'

asks for audio : use Ulead DVD

asks for Stereoscopic Input Format : go with the first option "Interlaced (Field Sequential), Right Line First"

(btw, have my Avatar 3d glasses on)

So lesson learned, these 3D Half-SBS files require 3DTVs, DUH. Reading the FAQ at 3dtv.at, the movie theater glasses will not work, Dolt2.

Conclusion: I'm 3D retarded. Was hoping I could play these in some fashion, but not from what I currently know.

Wait a second, under File is an options called 'Multi-view', ok the 'Sensio' option looks like the old skool blue/red shifted 3d.  and now it seems that the trial version of Stereoscopic Player only gives you 5 minutes.

Neptune, what do you use to play these things?

Oddly, poked around and there's a TPM in 3D Half-SBS on usenet. If I can make sense of it, will post caps. Maybe having two different movies to cross compare still, will be a beginning way to appreciate 3D.  But the key is probably getting the 3DTV with all the bells and whistles.

Add in a snappy new title, and i'd agree with Duchamp, you've got a new work:

The issue with film and preservation which I don't have a good answer for, is inevitably the film original negative will degrade.  When you start the preservation process, to get it back is not really 100% possible.  So for instance the guy from the other forums who worked on the 2004 said they looked at the SE as a guide.  But what did the Lowry people use as a guide?  The only constant is George, so they all followed his lead, but would still be interesting to hear what some of the conversations were as they reprocessed.

People like myself have expressed interest, the PM (private message) feature is in the upper right, if you wish to distribute links so that people can view your work.

Because of the 'proprietary software' we'll not be able to get more refined details.  But still interested in being a guinea pig, so since we are not going to learn about the specifics of how this was created, what do you want the audience to look for when watching this conversion?  Are there issues in the company which makes this proprietary software, that they want opinions on how they are doing?

Here's the blog for 3Dfiers: http://3dfier.blogspot.com/

This Roxio's Anime Studio mentions motion tracker: http://www.roxio.com/enu/promotions/landing/partners/anime-studio/default.html

The proprietary could be: http://www.legend3d.com/technology/

the motion sensing and objective memory program, are beyond me

Being able to listen and ask questions to the people who did the actual work, seems like a unique event, which we'll most likely not get again, proceed cautiously, please.

The idea that their monitors are a different class then the TVs in most people's homes, provides another wrinkle to how the films look different dependent upon the equipment you use.

Yes they are, always phun to see a new take.  Please go into the process you used to create them, i'm unfamiliar with "50% SBS format and Anaglyph 3-D" so links to how that works would be nice.  And if you decide to make them available, this thread should be moved to the 'Fan Edits' or "Fan Preservations and other projects' forum.  So if it disappears that's where it went.  Another user has attempted a similar goal, but they're having issues showing what they've accomplished.  If you need suggestions on how to get it to people, ask.  How long did the conversion take?

Burning Star Wars Revisited on a Mac
Time

DVD9 (8gb) is a Dual Layer dvd. I use Roxio's Toast to burn things on a mac:

http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/default.html

But you need a dvd burner which understands dual layer media, then you need some dual layer media.

In VLC, there is a playlist option or you can often drag/drop the .ISO into the playlist.  Or if you've already expanded the .ISO, then drop in the .ts's you've mentioned.  There will probably be a slight pause as it transitions from one .ts to the next.

Another option is to seek out the DVD5 (4gb) version, or take the DVD9 version and shrink it.  There will be quality loss, that's the price of smaller file size.

This is fairly high profile interview, Katie (with a public make over) talking to the CNN movie blog. <massive speculation on> And with the reference to Buffy, this could be a reaching out to Josh Whedon for the live action tv show? <massive speculation off>
