Not exactly how I wanted the 2011 baseball season to start...
Time

Nova! Colon! Mitre! Garcia! the Yanks got lots of.... right Igawa's still there too?... We'll see if the first half of the season can stress Bernett or Joba into transforming into something better. But yeah sad to see Pettitte go, that pick off move never got old. There's no way he's getting into the Hall. Missed the press conference but from the clips on MLB's Hot Stove the wife looked like she wasn't too pleased to have him around. and he didn't say retire. So the second half of the season thing could still play out, but that's at about 2%.

Pettitte's last time on the mount:

Star Wars Saga 3D Conversion (* files are password protected - no known password *)
Time

I don't believe Neptune will be returning to this forum.  He has not logged in since the day he joined.  From the information Neptune has left in this thread, anyone is able to track down him.  What he mentioned does exists.  Details of how they came about are sketchy.  The creation dates of some of the movies are days apart so significant automation was probably used.  These versions are more an example of what the software can do then what 3D as an artform might produce.  But not sure what that software is or what was actually done.

The community Neptune's apart of are 3D enthusiasts.  From 1950s comics to the latest direct rip.  Even in their forums there is a respected difference between actual 3D content and 2D-3D Conversions.  The 2D-3D conversions are a way of gaining attention to this emerging field and bringing people into their community.  The 2D-3D conversions are also a way to game the market, which won't have these officially done for several years.  But they could also be people with connections to the actual tools and processing power and are just in front of the learning curve.  To improve the technology, you do need to do tests.  To figure out what works and what doesn't.

There is a second TPM 3D Half-SBS out there, so some comparison can be done to see who's doing 3D better, or which scenes came out more effective.

Kenner Commercials DVD (Released)

LexX wrote: Wow. He didn't have the time to mention that when he was taking all the credit to himself then, when I said that it was being shared. He was a little pissed that it got leaked, weird!

Well if the original tapes and digital conversions originated from him then the case can be made that it is his responsibility if the leaked DVD got wide attention.  Him being one of the significant SW collectors, his reputation in those higher up communities is at stake.  When the leak took place, the person said they bought it from rebelscum, so with money involved more people are bound to get excited.  and again because he is an upper eschelon collector, even if the sales were to cover costs, it can be seen as bad form.  video is still an awkward collection hobby.  on one hand most of this stuff is on free hosting sites, on the other the professional authoring has some value and somewhere in between is the cultural value of the information in the video...

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

If only someone could figure out how to decode the theatrical DTS discs of the SE's that are floating around...

http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/showthread.php?12662-DTS-Star-Wars-Cinema-CDs-decode

The DTS processor in the projection booth gets timecode from the projector, and the timecode on the print has an id that must correspond to the CD’s id, ensuring that the wrong audio will not play with a print.

In other words, if you rent a standard DTS cinema decoder, you will need to have the film print as well as the CDs.

A tad of info, never heard of these before.  If it's just a code then that can probably be worked around.  but like DeCSS need to know the system.

If you are searching around for something else and stumble upon a full copy of any Star Wars movie (like the ones posted above) drop a link into this thread.

A short while ago I stumbled upon Attack of the Clones on youtube which was uploaded in 2005, and wondered how it lived so long.  So thought it might be an interesting exercise to see how long other versions last.  But to determine that you need to keep track of full versions and upload dates, then check back periodically to see which ones survive.

Found another youtube user with all 6 movies:

The Phantom Menace - uploaded 2010.07.02 - Official StarWars10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml2Y5KZDmt4

Attack of the Clones - uploaded 2010.07.08 - Official StarWars10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWhENmV_22U

Revenge of the Sith - uploaded 2010.07.22 - Official StarWars10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IOUYNd2_g4

Star Wars A New Hope - uploaded 2010.08.03 - Official StarWars10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=999lXvHwkgk

Empire Strikes Back - uploaded 2010.09.22 - Official StarWars10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgYQ1oSTdYM

Return of the Jedi - uploaded 2010.12.07 - Official StarWars10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZcp_UQwRsU

I'm curious about who does this and what becomes of them.  and other questions might spring up like: Why are there more AotC's then any of the other movies?  Will these all blink out of existence as the latest release arrives?  Is this a sign that current policies assumptions might be incorrect?

Understand this is an extremely irrelevant topic which might only appeal to me, and maybe I should start a blog with it.  So you can save your 'wut' and 'huh's for something better.

Return of the Jedi cut-scene
Time

adywan wrote:

Also the cave entrance in the commercial is a different shape altogether.

Disagree.  The shapes look different because of the camera angle, but there are features which resemble each other.  The Cereal camera angle being straight on (and more right), while the cut scene is zoomed in low pointing up and more left.

Image comparisons:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Return-of-the-Jedi-cut-scene/topic/11816/page/6/

I'll conceed the 3po footage and distance ridgeline, but the caves, being the same, from a financial stand point makes perfect sense.  A third resembling cave feature is the notch under the "V".  With zero hours of spelunking in my history, this is perfectly obvious.

...and now can we all let me enjoy MY failure in the cave.  Thank you.

The idea for this thread is to keep track of any full version of these movies in an online location.  Might be interesting to keep track of when they were uploaded and how long they last.  Bonus points for those found which are the oldest, and credit for finding an official release variation version:

Title - Oldest Active Upload Date - Last checked 2011.02.03

TPM - 2009.05.29

AotC - 2009.06.11

RotJ - 2008.12.31

I would feel pretty irresponsible if I were to write that paper without seeing the original trilogy; the movies that started it all, and that changed so many peoples' lives forever.

Why, many people have never seen the original trilogy and their delusions of how great a movie they are is just as passionate.

There are only 'Versions' of this movie.  No original, no current just versions.

For some reason the forum is placing an additional space character after the links, delete that and they work fine.  They should be fixed now.

Here's an article about the GOUT release: http://savestarwars.com/gout.html

and here's another SW DVD listing page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_DVD_releases

and here's an official site page on general home releases: http://www.starwars.com/hyperspace/member/kessel/f20051017/index.html

It seems that the 2008 DVD made a transfer of basically this same laserdisc version.

Yes, it was the 2006 reissue of the 2004 DVD with a Bonus feature second disc which came from a laserdisc source.  Around these parts it is called 'GOUT' George's Original Unaltered Trilogy.

"The Making of Star Wars" from 1977 narrated by William Conrad.

Here are two good reference sites.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/russdawson/gtf/ This one documents many of the discs which originated in these forums.  Many of which are transfers from the laserdiscs.  Check out the EditDroid set.

http://swonvideo.com/ This site is one person's attempt to collect all home video versions of the SW movies.  Lots of hard to find items and nice cover scans.  You'll find a 1979 TMoSW on VHS and a few other versions, so you'll know what to look for on the resell market.

http://originaltrilogy.com/fan-edits/ and this site has a sister page which also lists most of the fan projects and preservations which are discussed around here.

Was there ever a treatment or outline for the prequels ?
Time

pg.6 of the Making of ESB has a pic of a written page with an outline of the at this time (late 1977) the Saga was 12 episodes (as mentioned in Bantha Tracks and a Kenner marketing video) so makes sense that this outline has a second page, which is not printed.  Other allusions that there is a second page are the spacing, six per page and ANH in this outline is Episode Six, and the notation is "Star Wars Trilogy" with a line going down meaning Eps 6,7,8.  7 and 8 would start the next page.  This outline page has the 'Clone Wars' as episodes 2,3,4.  Ep1 is a prelude, Ep5 is an epilogue/prologue.  So speculating Ep9 would be another epilogue/prologue and eps10,11,12 would be the final trilogy.  What's written on this second page would explain a lot.  Maybe in the RotJ book....

skyjedi2005 wrote:  As far as can be gleaned  from all available sources its was just hashed out verbally between Lucas and Kurtz.

I think "hashed out" is phrasing it hard.  These were general conversations more like discussion of things they'd like to achieve, with plot device to make it work.  Then setting up the frame work to hinge all future decisions on.  What quote from George about 9 films are you basing this on?

The slow seduction to evil of Anakin by the Emperor vanished.

Anakin being a good friend and great starpilot vanished.

The first is semi-there, but it happens off screen.  Anakin has periodic meetings with Senator Palpatine.  and the Ani-Obi relationship is referenced as being good friends, but the films focus on moments which are more trying.  and the great starpilot angle is there, lucky TPM to RotS opening battle.

I'm not familiar with the good/mother bad mother.  Got a quote for this?  and the love triangle sounds more like a fan hypothesis from what I remember.

Qui-Gon is back
Time

So, errr...How was Qui-Gon?

...the episode was very much like a Star Trek episode.  Mysterious location traps the three Heroes and they are currently being tested by three 'God' like beings.  Each given a glimpse into a possible future.  They went with the notion that this location (a Kyber crystal planet?) has Force powers, is this a two or three parter?
