Star Wars Trilogy - Original Theatrical Versions: 2006 DVD Flaw List
Time

Yes i've been getting different frame counts, but i'm uncertain if it's my playback choices. Originally wanted to work with the files so had ripped them, but those gave a different frame count then the original vobs. So took a step back and using avidemux on the mac and PC to confirm frame numbers. http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/ Looking for a second application to confirm the numbers. What is the date of the vob's in your version?

If you have d_j's Version 3, could you look at the cropping of the first frame there. My version of that looks similar to the US/Europe posted above. Can the black bars be displayed differently between programs?

Figured out a few things so the numbers align with negative1's original values. The prime example being how the SW logo hows up at 704. I had been using rips before (which caused the SW logo to show up at 689), this time worked off the avidemux combination idx of the vobs. Hopefully this version confirms the previous work and corrects where there were typos. Also on the far right is a column of the two subtracted from each other so the changes can be backtracked. Where there is an increase in frames, it's red, decrease in frames it's yellow backgrounded.

Ok will work thru what I can of the GOUTs, then shift to the spreadsheet thread, no need for thread moves. Finished off one then started updating the second and opened up a second version of avidemux and got different total frame times for the first one. Not sure why that happens but makes me less confident in avidemux... Also missed fixing two of the negative frame values so need to work through that. Will be trying out virtual dub, see if the values can be repeated.

The above spreadsheet, for the first 60k frames, takes the negative1 provided numbers and extrapolates/finds variations between the GOUT HK, then US, then UK releases, and recalculates the totals. I used AVIDEMUX 2.5.4 on the mac and AVIDEMUX 2.5.6-1 on a PC. (well only for the HK and they matched) Please recommend other frame accurate programs to use to verify frame counts. or let me know that avidemux suxxx ballz. (for reasons unknown avidemux 2.6 on the PC dropped the frames for timebased values...)

How the spreadsheet works, first is the -1 data (start, count, end and description), then a numbered column and the values of the frame shift between the prior data and the new calculations. Then have a column for the frame range, and brief description of when the new frame appears. (gave up on these last two columns quickly)

Next comes 5 columns, the outside edges are spot verify (SV), where i'd verify that that frame was the first or last shot of that sequence, when it wasn't would drop in the number and track back until the numbers work. The middle three columns are the start / end and the number of frames in the shot. When a variation between the frame count of the shot occurs, that's got a box around it and the formula references the Shifting offset previously mentioned.

Unfortunately started with the R3 GOUT (Hong Kong) which doesn't match the US/UK GOUT. But have the values and can work backwards.

So anyone have a frame accurate program to recommend to verify these numbers. Guessing there's something between my avidemux process and -1's previous method which is returning the differences.

Was able to find some other initial errors, for instance a shot of R2 was 1000 frames too long (just a typo), and found a missing shot of Luke going to eat with Owen and Beru.

*EDIT*

oh -1 would you mind if I recommend this thread to be moved to the Theatrical vs SE forum, seems more in line which what's happening there now.

100% Fake Celebrity OT Requests.
Time

Hello, this is Nick Van Eede, I'm a big big Star Wars fan and in the late 80s I got the opportunity to meet George Lucas. Remember me and the Cutting Crew are big big fans, on tour we had the 'for the last time' Definitive Collection Laserdisc set playing every night. During the post party one night in northern California in walks none other then George Lucas himself! I raced to pick up the DCLD set to get an autograph, this kind of opportunity wouldn't happen again. George gets this mixed reaction on his face, something was amiss. He was polite and gracious and signed the LD. (it's still on the mantel in the tour room) Then he got this weird smirk and told this tale about the upcoming digital cinema revolution. The LaserDiscs have never felt so heavy. ....I couldn't believe it.

I felt like the Original Trilogy just died in my arms tonight... and that's how we came up with our hit song, true story.

...I should have walked away.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Harmy wrote: The comparison I'm working on (well, the project file got corrupted, so I'll have to start from scratch) will be comparing the BD, GOUT, DeEd v1 and v2.

Even though you can't release them now, consider making your comparisons with the reference pics you were provided with. This way when they give their blessing, the comparisons with the IB pics will help clarify the process DeEdv2 went thru. Hopefully it's as easy as a layer off and/or an auto crop function.

Shot List Spreadsheet - v0.6.05 - 6 films - Multiple SW Audio Mix Changes Added Recently
Time

Have begun playing around with -1's GOUT shot data. The idea is to incorporate at the minimum the number of frames per shot. With that data anyone can extrapolate just about everything else.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtjXdIjRQo5NdHlSeExLUExQUGJ2YkdhY2JEWGV1TXc

Row 'T' are the magic numbers at this point. Am in the process of verifying them thru random spot checks. Will most likely use the method -1 did, but was initially trying programs i'm used to and am getting slightly different results. For example, dropping the NTSC GOUT vob into Quicktime, i'm getting a -15 frame difference early on, but the numbers layout accordingly, until I get to one of the points where additional verification is needed. I noticed that often when i'd shift back and forth between frames sometimes the count wouldn't change. So am leery of Quicktime going forward, even though it's one of the few applications which can display frame data, which i've worked with. [the other known issues are three sections are returning negative shot lengths, and there is an issue with the frame counts at vob change points, some may have an additional frame to be added]

Another goal of this process is automatic subtitle recalculation, which requires being able to get the h:mm:ss.fff where the frames are often displayed as a fraction of 1. negative1's list had this data, but was attempting to recalculate it, but am slightly off. There are columns for 23.976, 24, 25, 29.976 fps values, want to see if they match video programs returns. Another problem with macs is they don't play well with FPS, most truncate 23.976 to 23.97 and some to just 24, but who knows what's being calculated internally. (AfterEffects is a pain sometimes because of this rounding shit)

Once one version of the movie is verified, then can begin the process of other versions. Which can then be consendced to just the values of where things change.

If you are curious what CatBus' Project Threepio looks like in a spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtjXdIjRQo5NdHBwMXRkbU9ORzY1UWZPY0w0UTVpd0E Similar idea, could all the languages use one set of times, so that it's easier to calc SEs and version variations?

Have been playing with your frame count data, and found 6 errors. The easy way to find them is you have frame begin/end if you subtract them you get 6 negatives.

50941 - 50042 hologram ends *

63084 - 62892 they walk into cantina *

100979 - 100679 chewie growls

103505 - 103428 luke and han attack

156529 - 156504 rebel spackship pilot

160403 - 155622 wedge looks around *

* were fixable just by comparing to the neighboring values, just typos. The other three require a little further look.

Really hope there's a way to link the excel data to a video editor, so want to watch the movie where the shots are reordered by length. But for now will have to live with a graph of the data.

Many thanks for pull out these numbers.

Lucasfilm COO, President Micheline Chau Retires

http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/lucasfilm-coo-president-micheline-chau-retires-54891

Micheline Chau, president and COO of Lucasfilm, has retired after two decades with the company, Lucasfilm announced on Wednesday.

Kathleen Kennedy, who joined Lucasfilm as co-chairman in June, will serve as interim president. The heads of the various departments, such as Industrial Light & Magic animation, LucasArts (gaming) and licensing, will report to Kennedy for the time being.

The company has no plans to name an immediate replacement for the COO position.

“I’ve spent the past two decades at Lucasfilm growing the business and in the process have had the distinct pleasure of working with some of the most creative people in the world,” Chau said in a statement. “I’m very proud of what Lucasfilm has accomplished during my tenure and I know the company is set up for great things and will continue to inspire audiences for a long time to come.”

Chau joined the company as CFO and became president and COO in 2003. She oversaw the development of several projects that helped grow the Lucasfilm brand, including the a TV series, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," and the creation of the company’s animation division.

She has also been a driving force behind the company's international expansion, including the opening of a studio in Singapore.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have Mich at the helm of my company,” George Lucas, founder and co-chairman of Lucasfilm, said in as statement. “She has provided the focus and strategy needed to keep Lucasfilm at the forefront of the global entertainment industry. Mich has been a key member of my executive team for over 20-years and she will be missed. I wish her the best in her retirement."

Lucas has been eying an exit from the company as well, stating his plans to retire within the next few years. The arrival of Kennedy, a long-time Lucas collaborator, was yet another sign of the "Star Wars" creator's slow but steady march out of the company that bears his name.
