Help Wanted: Star Wars films with audio description. Can anyone help out??
Time
The official title for this is (DVS) Descriptive Video Service [wiki].
The Descriptive Video Service (DVS), created by WGBH-TV in Boston [citation needed], is used by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the U.S. to provide video description for the visually impaired, so they can better understand what is happening on the video portion of the program. This greatly improves the experience and makes it much more valuable to blind and visually impaired viewers.

I've found that Fox also carries DVS on some of it's major programming and maybe movies too. One way to capture the DVS signal is to have an old VCR. (Made in the 80s) For some reason the old VCRs cannot recognize (and separate out) the DVS signal and it bleeds through the normal audio. I've accidentally taped some programs with the DVS, it's neeto. For Fox, i've found that that it tends to be the same announcer lady for multiple programs.

Maybe the next time the trilogy plays on tv, the DVS could be captured, it might be as easy as switching to SAP.

Here's an article about AotC's in Theater DVS:

If you want to see if you can hear DVS audio, here's a site which lists upcoming programming with DVS:
http://www.tv-now.com/dvs/

Article about TPM on Fox which did have DVS: http://main.wgbh.org/wgbh/pages/mag/about/news/swepisodeone.html Also mentions that R2-D2 Under the Dome had DVS.

Daveytod - this site will allow you to save the video files on sites like youtube and google video.
http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

Not sure of youtubes file format, but google video are .flc which are a video contained in a macromedia type file. The folks at http://www.videohelp.com/ might have found a way to convert these file types.

Someone with a youtube subscription, PM the uploader and send him over this way, maybe a bigger version can be found. Looks like the original was film, maybe this was an in-theater PSA, the transfer looks professionally done, but that's a complete guess.

Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time
Just a reminder, this thread was made to promote recent and definite upcoming tv shows with Star Wars content. Recent meaning that the program has an actual time and date. It's not really a discussion thread but an info thread.

The future SW TV program currently doesn't fall into this category, so if possible take the future SW TV show discussion to one of the other already existing threads. for instance: Update on the TV Show, and now Lucas is getting involved!

thanks

OT.com fan edit blog: your thoughts please (Update: development underway)
Time
X0 projects mailout is a nice feature, RSS'ing significant blog entries, or RSS'ng blog entries to the OT.com Fan Edit discussion topic would be useful.

Having people honestly discuss the editing which takes place is a certain way to allevate some of the concerns which movie labels might have. I heard an interview with the Owner/operator of a website which documents female nudity in movies (they charge for membership), and he said that even though, for the most part what they do is just make copies of pieces of movies, since they have a staff of writers to create reviews and such, this is enough for them to have stayed away from legal action.

Maybe, this might be getting adventurous, but having the complete screen play for each movie in the database (activated by scene number), so that Fan Edits to certain scenes can be compared. (at least the written description). In some ways instead of a trailer, i'd like to see the edits (plus a couple seconds on either side). How the editors manipulate or transpose dialog from one scene to another. I guess i'm feeling this way since with most movies, similar decisions on how to make the movie better will be made. For instance de-JarJar'ing the PT. Cross referencing how the editors dealt with the Jar Jar scenes could be done scene by scene. This could be a way to have interaction (between edits), since anyone could describe the edit they would make. even if they don't have the video expertiese to do it. So similar to T'Bone's Cut Scene webpage (http://starwarz.com/tbone/cut_scenes/ep1/), you could select the movie, in this case TPM, then see a list of the scenes which have been acted upon by Fan Editors. then each edited scene would have a page which would call up the descriptions of each editor's action and why they did it, for what purpose, etc. This would make the site less about the physical edits and more about the editing decisions.

Info: the Galactic Trade Federation website
Time
Just a plug for the IRC channel, for those into discussing how to cross link all the info being created by people, stop by the irc channel: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=9&threadid=4497

In addition to http://galactictradefederation.com/, Zion's created a fantastic comparison webpage: http://aptirrelevance.com/otscreenshots/screenshots.php?shot=1 which is very slick. Then after those two sources, Rikter's FanDVD.doc is the place to find out about new releases.

Then if your looking to expand beyond SW Transfers, there's http://noneinc.com/Archive/FlimsiplastDatabase/fd_main.html which is a start to collect a list of SW media in any form. It came about because of a thread to collect all the SW Documentaries: http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=9&threadid=2506

anyway head over the OT.com IRC channel and talk about what's working and what's not.

Also, Jay has recently started a thread to discuss housing this type of information in the OT.com, head over to that thread:

HOTH 2014 : Petition
Time
http://hoth2014.com/

To: I.O.C. Board Members, NBC executives, Darth Vader, Yoda, et al (c/o LucasFilms)

Whereas, the Olympic TV ratings are down as more and more people would rather watch American Idol than the likes of Olympic fallen idols (i.e. Michelle Kwan and Bode Miller) we believe that the Winter Olympics are in need of an overhaul.

Considering the Star Wars saga is immensely popular and has universal appeal we appeal to the aforementioned above and ask that you to consider HOTH, the sixth planet of a remote system of the same name, as the host for the next available 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

As evidenced by the signatures below many people have joined in the HOTH2014 alliance and voiced their support in having the icy site of Episode V host the XXII Winter Olympics.

The force is with HOTH2014 OLYMPIC MOVEMENT.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

The Empire Strikes Quack! - 8 minute video edit

Is this your "Newfangled Menace"?

One of the great moments in "When Senators Attack" is when they have the lightsaber fight between the actor and SW figure... The whole play on special effects had me rolling.

I wonder how many of these fan films are getting internet purged as the general public looses interest in SW...

Sluggo, it doesn't have to be a whole thread, but for instance how'd you come accross a copy of ESQ?

"Heresy Mix"? ...ok reading around I see that it's a "Self explanatory bit of flippant fun" which exists on the ADM_DL_Ep4 release... Can you spoil the secret, for those of us to haven't seen?

A disc of random blasphemy, like this Quackery, the Heresy Mix and might I suggest the alternative audio of the deceased Newfangled Hope.

Also Sluggo if you've got a thread somewhere, where you type out some stories of how you've collected oddities like this ESQ, it would be fascinating reading.

Creating subtitles
Time
Anyone with subtitle authoring help for a beginner on a mac?

I've created a project in iMovie which can give me the start and stop times of each clip:

Clip: 1.mov 01
File: 1.mov:01
Frames: 28 In:28 Out:56 Thumb:0
Timestamp: 154572240.000000
RecordDate: 1
Clip: bsotw02
File: bsotw02
Frames: 229 In:0 Out:229 Thumb:0
Timestamp: 151701792.000000
RecordDate: -1082648993

But this is frame information....

For instance i'm trying out:
Belle Nuit Subtitler
Which works with timecode information. ...the export options are strange too. export to tiffs?

I would idealy like to have a .srt (or comparable) file at the end, which could then be incorporated into the final DVD. But at this point any guidance would be helpful.

SEQUEL TO MILLENNIUM'S END: THE FANDOM MENACE TO WORLD PREMIERE AT NY COMIC CON FEB. 25

Nearly six years after the documentary Millennium's End: The Fandom Menace premiered, the long-in-the-works follow-up, Galaxy's End: Revenge of the Myth will make its global debut at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at 9 p.m.at the Jacob Javits Center. Where ME:TFM focused on fans' anticipation for SW Episode I and the Prequel era in general, GE:ROTM picks up at the end of the saga, detailing how the past six years had impacted their lives, for better or worse, and how they're dealing with the end. I'll be at the screening to introduce the film and provide a Q&A.
