Info: British new kid cuddling 3 VHS tapes...
Time
Yup i'm a significant V/Vm fan (got about 80% of their releases). Big fan of anything plunderphonic, i've done alot of hanging out online in those circles. Do you have a presense in the Butchers Slab Forums? (we're you around for the original posting page?) Do you butcher or make sounds yourself? What other artists/labels you into?

The fascinating thing about V/Vm (James), is his ability to identify odd musical trends and very often be at the forefront of cultural shifts. And yet after all this he's now on a semi-political bent, where he's offering one track a day for free, to reinforce the point that music is about being listened to, not an object to be bardered with coin and paper for. (although this does need to happen is you want artists to continue to create) Also if you have any appreciation for the advancement and de-evolution of culture, James is a magnet for those artists. If you want some expansion to your horizon, V/Vm is a great label to listen too. Irritainment for the best of the worst of the worst of the best.

iTSM - iTunes Library Signature Wav Generator

iTunes Signature Maker

iTunes Signature Maker (iTSM) analyzes your music collection and creates a short audio signature to represent who you are and what you listen to. After it checks your system configuration and asks you a few simple questions, iTSM will spend a few minutes analyzing your collection and generating the audio signature.

Why?

People often ask me what music I listen to, and I find it difficult to describe my enormous music collection in just a few sentences. So I created iTSM to answer in sound a question I cannot answer in words.

Your signatures can be added to the iTSM Gallery. Post your name if you upload your signature.

Looking for a Lucas interview
Time
I too am a bit confused. (a There should have been a They maybe) This was a video of some sort? or a written interview. Having those two together talking about SW should refine the search. I'm guessing shortly after RotJ, could it have been part of the Joseph Campbell interviews?

poking around found these video of Lucas talking on a variety of generic topics. not what your looking for but someone of you's might be interested: http://www.achievement.org/achievers/luc0/movies/ Full interview here: http://www.achievement.org/autodoc/page/luc0int-1

2006 MTV movie awards...
Time
Well hopefully this will be the last SW'MTV moment and thus closure to their nearly 10 year run of material on par with the Holiday Special produced by the cultural elites at MTV. Lucas's desire to be a good, socially deemed, ethical parent has lead to him loosing the passion to maintain the universe he created and thus let pop schlock minions make lame moments like this one. If a fan did this for profit he'd sue, since his kids watch MTV it's ok.

Info: a Big bust at the Motor City Comic Con - bootleg sellers

As a result, more than 30,000 suspected fraudulent items were obtained and 14 dealers were taken to the police station -- some in handcuffs -- for police reports to be filed. The dealers were not arrested, but the state police are seeking warrants for their arrest from prosecutors, White said. Pending that decision, the dealers were released and given the opportunity to return to open their locations at the con again. However, vendors indicated they had noticed RIAA and MPAA detectives on the premises again on Saturday.

TMO Reports - Macs Used to Create Empire Strikes Back Fan Documentary

by Brad Cook, 2:00 PM EDT, May 12th, 2006

When he rediscovered the original Star Wars trilogy years ago, Jambe Davdar recalled that The Empire Strikes Back immediately struck him as his favorite because "it seemed so much more than the other two." Later, he went on to be a freelancer in the U.K. TV industry, and his discovery of Deleted Magic, a fan-created documentary that digs into the making of the first Star Wars movie (also known as A New Hope), inspired him to make one of his own.

Mr. Davdar employed a Dual 1GHz Power Mac G4 equipped with over 500GB of storage to make a DVD called Building Empire. Like Deleted Magic, which was also made with a Mac, he set out to chronicle the making of the movie by incorporating archival materials -- behind-the-scenes footage, old interviews and laserdisc and DVD commentary tracks, and rare photos -- into the film itself. The extras on the disc include restored music sequences, the audio of the original radio drama and "story of" album, and even an alternate version of the crawl that was described in an early draft of the script.

To assemble the project, Mr. Davdar employed Final Cut Pro HD 4.5, DVD Studio Pro 3, Miraizon Cinematize, and "a number of freeware programs where necessary." He also used A.Pack, an audio encoding utility included with DVD Studio Pro. He said that he had been a PC user until 2002, when he realized that he had been spending "more time fixing [PCs] and altering them than I did using them." That's when he made the switch to Mac, noting: "I just loved the contrast between Windows and OSX. Everything just seemed to flow so much better."

He explained that he set out to create Building Empire because of his dissatisfaction with the VHS and DVD versions of the movies. "Each successive one seemed to ignore what fans really wanted to see," he said. "I for one wanted to see more behind the scenes footage and more anecdotes and facts from the making of the films." He found many like-minded people at the forums on the Web site originaltrilogy.com, where Deleted Magic creator Garrett Gilchrist is a regular contributor.

Mr. Davdar noted that response on originaltrilogy.com "has been very positive." He added: "To my knowledge nobody of an 'official capacity' has seen Building Empire yet. The copyright issue does concern me slightly, but as I say on the DVD and on the forum, I have never and will never accept any money for this project. It was done purely out of a genuine affection of the films."

Anyone who wants their own copy of it should visit myspleen.com, where Mr. Davdar said that a third party has uploaded it. "So far it's been 'snatched' nearly 1,000 times," he said. "A figure that I find absolutely amazing!"

He's currently at work on Returning to Jedi, a documentary that will explore Return of the Jedi in the same vein. This week, he posted a trailer for it on his blog.

Sheesh what's with the venom? I don't think you actually watched the piece. Your comments are that off topic.
the rings films have very little to do with the works they are based on. These people should actually pick up a book and read it the dumbasses.
This is irrelevant to the work they produced. Star Lords is not about the book. It's about the qualities which ended up on film. How each director frames certain shots, how they capture movement and how these ways of directing influence other directors. If anything Peter Jackson learned some of his style of directing from George Lucas and this Star Lords production shows that. (the way the Walker and Oliphant fall, for instance) And maybe George got something back when making RotS. (Would Mustafar have looked the same if Mordor hadn't been portrayed on screen?)

Yes lucas was a fan of the rings books before he made star wars, but any similar stuff is purely coincidental and not on purpose.

Again, this is not about questioning any merit of saying that Lucas was influenced by Tolkens books. This piece is about comparing two (well actually three (OT, LotR, PT) trilogies, that are on film. And i don't know what angle your taking but the Ring movies are closer to the written book then many other book spawned movies.

But yes some of these similar moments between the trilogies could be construed as coincidental, but they do paint a good picture of how our culture reinforces itself, and how some creative people build upon other people's works.

These trilogies have many similar themes, and these folks put together one heck of a compilation reel. All wrapped up in what at first is appropriate for the film material, but then veers out into the other cultural detritus of the time, for many of this generation.... Disco. Come on your didn't laugh at the Han/Aragorn boogie down, you know that Han clip is one of pain and suffering but with some disco repeat editing, it's party time, that's good reuse.

I personally really dig the clips of everyone looking around frantically, just before the disco introduction. You got the sense that something was coming up but we're you expecting what you got?

<div class=“PostQuote”>Starlords juxtaposes similar pieces of familiar media structures. It experiments with sampling what is normally seen in entirety and in context (the films) and then linking them in time and space to a popular music track normally heard sampled, here played in its entirety. These cultural entities, two of the biggest juggernauts of global propaganda, share similar plots, soundtracks, characters, creatures and actors (Christopher Lee). They have large monetary and business interests as convoluted as the epic digital graphics engines, weaving fantasy worlds of white heroes from humble origins and dark lords with all-encompassing surveillance and power structures.

There were also personal reasons for this project. Our dreams and memories were shaped by both franchises. This is a way of actively engaging in those dreams.

This work is our expression of love for the heroic cycles that are Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars.</div>

LID doesn't mean laserdisc yo.

LID does not mean laserdisc

LID does not mean laserdisc

Laserdisc is dead
XO Projects for me.
(repeat)

I'm just busting your new found boundless (and from some eyes, very unfocused) posting habits of late.

Some of us understand that with the OT being released on DVD from Lucasfilm, you now perceive that most new Fan Edits can happen with a level and standardised quality level. But you've made fractions of these points in many old threads and several new ones. "Yourself collect", Yoda recommends.

I still think you've been contacted/persuaded by Lucasfilm, to promote Fan Edits which use the new DVDs. But i'm conspiracy kr4zie.

The question posed by this thread is: What can we do with it? What do we do with Star Wars now?

Well it was never posed until your last post, it was inferred until that point.

But I wonder if any of us here have the ability to dramatically alter the OT into something innovative. A majority of us here have this mystical notion about the OT, that it really is some fantastic pristine creation, held on a mythical pedistal, instead of just more celluloid in the evolution of culture. Hopefully as the generation which grew up with the PT gain interest in modifying films, maybe they will have an interesting take on the OT. Time will tell.

None .... could you change your terminology, as it's weird. Don't say LID or non-LID. Say laserdisc, 2004 DVD, 2006 DVD. There, that's easy ...

OCPmovie created the term in the title of this thread, and now that it's out there, we're not suppost to use it or expand upon it... boo
So is this "Laserdisc is dead" is like "Rock'nRoll is dead" or "Elvis is dead" or "James Brown is Dead" or "George Lucas's creativity (which raped my childhood) is dead as a doorknob"... etc.

Now will a 1080 (i or p) version of the OT make the non-LID dead too? Personally i'm tired of waiting I wants the hexology in Ultra High Def! I-Max me babie...
