5/25/77 A fan film idea...
Time
Then after recording the line people, the group goes to see the film again only.... George has already gone back in time and the crawl says "Episode 44"!!!! In this alternative timeline George is the only maker of entertainment. (Everyone else gladly gave up) [There can be a Rod Sterling cameo as a crowd member next to the time traveling SW fanboys] ...cont.

XM or Sirius?
Time
I don't think either service is going anywhere. The difference I see is that XM more and more is making deals with celebrities who don't necessarily bring in people to the service. (Ellen, Oprah, Snoop, Bowie) These are not radio people. So to compensate XM is adding commercials to generate revenue. This is the anti-thesis of what pay radio should be. Plus XM didn't negotiate a good deal with the RIAA and is having problems renegotiating their blanket music license. If they make XM pay, then well... more commercials. Another stupid decision by XM was they signed Opie and Anthony, then they let him simulcast part of the show on regular terrestrial radio. That doesn't make sense, your suppostedly offering something you can't get anywhere else.... then why... makes my head hurt.

In your case if you've heard both music chanels which your of more interest, then go with the one you like best. But make sure to let the company know that if they add commercials to the channel you listen to, then your out, immediately. I heard about one guy who threatened to quit the XM service and they gave him an extra radio and 3 bucks a month for a year, just so they could keep him. It's also early on, if you influence the DJs maybe you can get the channel you want!

I think it would be in the benefit of each company if they split all the sports chanels. But that kind of agreement is years away.

Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time
I was just watching "the world series of pop culture" on VH1, and one of the questions was: "In the 1980 film 'The Empire Strikes Back' Billy Dee Williams played Lando Calrissian, who's the administrator of what facility?"

Nope that is completely on topic. That's the goal of this thread to hopefully capture any reference to SW on TV, no matter how insignificant it might be. I'll look out of the rerun of this prog. who we're the contestants?, what round did the question come up in? post anything which might help locate the program. TIA!

XM or Sirius?
Time
At the moment the two systems have similar music channels, the major difference comes between the sports programming. XM's got baseball and Sirius has NFL/NBA/NHL/Nascar. Personally I wanted Howard Stern and that's why i've gone with Sirius, even though i'd like to be able to listen to other baseball games besides the home teams. XM also has a truely portable device, while Sirius has one coming out this summer. (haven't read reviews yet) Don't know about XM, but most of Sirius' channels are available through an internet stream.

XM has made several big name deals (Oprah's 1/2hr per week for instance) and is having some cash problems, and more of their music channels now have some commercials. This trend should bother XM users. But if you want a cheap XM plan, sign up, then threaten to cancel. Many people are getting great deals to just stay on.

I wouldn't have bought a satellite radio if it wasn't for Howard. I find most of the music channels nausiating, it's the same crap from the radio, just without commercials. It's definitely a luxury item. But for fans of Howard it's unbelievable. the shows are now almost 6 hours long and maybe 10 minutes of commercials in that 6 hours instead of the 18-20 minutes per hour which occured on terrestrial radio. Being able to hear people speak their minds without having to bow down to nebulous community standards regulations set up to limit adult conversations is wonderful.

Also in copyright legislation is the notion of "Transformative Reuse" and "Fair Use". These principles cover alot of territory which a health society who believes in freer speech should practice. Places like YouTube (and these forums) show that the public has a wider concept of "freedom of expression" then the ways some legal cases get settled. Just a reminder to support the creative.

Again LFL singles out spoofs and parodies. I wouldn't be surprised as the tv shows come out, fan films in the universe will be clamped down upon. I wish there was someway to get LFL to understand that these films don't drastically affect the LFL line of merchandise and products. But that's an uphill battle.

I would love to hear the logic of the chain of events. Was it really a Hyperspace video which SW.com asked YT to remove, or could it have been a fan film which wasn't a spoof or parody? Then the YT staffer, what we're they thinking when they started pulling things down.

Hopefully someone in the fan creating community is keeping track of what's disappearing. Would be interesting to guage, the reality verse the blog statements of a company.

ROTS: Baby Scoops?
Time
There's definitely a vast difference between the designs of the OT and PT. the OT was grounded in some sense of practicality. McQuarrie came from a background working with NASA and Joe Johnson and crew seems to have an understanding of taking an idea and making it function. Chang in the PT was coming from a more Victorian design aesthetic, where image drove the final product. I don't think he had much application of taking his ideas from sketches into real objects. I also don't think that during the production of the PT, they would have said "that would make a great toy" because in many ways, everything was expected to become a toy. So it did mold the design process in a sense, but it wasn't a goal it was just a reality of the situation. These things we're going to become toys no matter what.

Info Wanted: 70mm Film Cel Scans (good reference or pointless?)
Time

Over at http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/70mm_ref_cd.htm (a website dedicated to reconstructing SW costumes) they got a 70mm Film Cel Reference CD. (almost 100 scans) Now I guess from the down-sampled sample they provide, is there any way to prove that these are actual Cel scans? It would seem to be a good reference for the community to get access to. But maybe there is more accurate reference material already available. Also of interest is a disc (3.5gb) of images from the Magic of Myth and Art of SW exhibits.

POLL: Are you buying the Star Wars DVDs released on September 12, 2006?
Time
I believed Lucas and LFL when they said this would be the last time to own/see the original SW. That was 96 or so, and the changes have proved them right. I've got a VHS of "Star Wars The Ultimate Experience" (pre-SE widescreen presentation on sci-fi channel) and that's satisfactory for my passive viewing. It's more fun to see these movies with fans in a theater, and it seems that LFL will make that happen every few years for the next decade or so. So these DVDs are not something i'll be seeking out, but i'll see you in a 3D configured theater.

Wikipedia also banned him. His name is Adam Kingrey, he's gotten some press for his actions:

There are good and bad Wikipedians; Adam Kingrey has been both. The 11th-grader from Glasgow, Ky., said he was a "major vandal" when he found Wikipedia last summer. Using different computer addresses, he ran roughshod over the president's biography. "I was amazed that I was able to edit without any control." But he soon learned Wikipedians have rules against such behavior.
