Movie Ratings
Time
For a look into the Movie Ratings System a movie called "This Movie Is Not Rated" has recently come out.

http://www3.ifctv.com/thisfilm/about.php

From what i've read, the movie opens up the issue about leaving ratings to a small group of individuals, but fails to make a cohesive statement which is easily understood. The movie gets weighted down suppostedly on the dirt of getting to know the current regime of Ratings Givers.

Here's Roger Ebert's Review:
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060914/REVIEWS/609140301/-1/RSS

The MPAA insists that it has procedures that it applies evenhandedly. But the procedures are secret so nobody can tell what they are. If something is not allowed, it's because it's against the invisible rules.

Weird Al's latest video (on topic)
Time
"MC Escher is my favorite M.C." MC = Microphone Controller, another rap/hip-hop reference to the guy who spits out the lyrics. But Weird Al is referencing a Dutch artist known for drawings which tweaked out perspective/perception.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._C._Escher

"Keep your 40, i'll just have an Earl Grey Tea" 40 oz. is a typical size for cheap beer, Earl Grey Tea is the favorite drink of Jean-Luc Picard captain of the Enterprise D and E.

Weird Al's latest video (on topic)
Time
That "Cherry" line is one of the problems of the vid, if they were cherry, they'd be in the package... Why's he playing the turntables when talking about an MC? and why is the pac-man not yellow? Anyone know what those formulas are? and posting "you suck" to wikipedia is a sign he's no nerd.

"My MySpace page is totally pimp'd out
Got people begging for my top 8 spaces"
(like post count here at the OT.com, MySpace must have something similar so your top 8 "friends" get their picture on your page)

"...took calculus just for fun,
ain't got a gat but i've got a soldering gun"
(gat is a slang term for gun, and a soldering gun is used for making circuit boards for electronics)

Anyone have a scan of that Holiday Special Cover...

Video of someone who was in an apartment blocks away. 20+ minutes of video. Will give you a better sense of the the sounds of the day and the impact of the cloud cover on the neighborhood and the exodus of people. Although some of the significant moments are cut out this is a view point i haven't seen anywhere else.

Personally i was working on 27th street.

The X-Files - Worth Watching?
Time
Recommend it highly. Not sure how dated the show will look now, many aspects of the show have been encorporated into much of the current tv landscape. But if your into tv history it's completely worth it. (X-Files itself was sprung from Kolchak the NightStalker) Whenever I come across an episode on tv, i'll stick with. Still engrossing. Krychek is one of the best characters ever. Tons of memorable moments, especially from the whole mythology arc, and many of the MotW (Monster of the Week) episodes are/were better then a majority of tv. I wouldn't be surprised if another movie is made in the next 5 years, so starting to watch it now, would get you up to speed.

Secret CIA prisons
Time
The Australians are saying: if you won't we will. Why are the US dragging their heels?

If this was just up to Pres. Bush these people would have military trials. The issue still to be determined by Congress is if this is satisfactory or should Congress determine if these individuals should get additional legal jursidiction. Congress needs to make the determination, agreed the political wheels are spinning slowly, as these are non citizens and thus don't get the same amount of attention. If they do get a trial in the same legal merit of a citizen of a country, they will be in the system for some time as well. This is a new situation for any Judicial System, no one wants to make a mistake by making a hasty decision. The outcome will be used for years in future accused terrorist arrests. What precident the US sets up will most likely be adopted by other countries, so they are collecting opinions and legal arguments. Anyone know of any dates/forums where the US Congress has debated this issue?

Star Wars Title Mash!
Time
I was only commenting on how the lack of activity on the SW community, along with a feeling of desperation due to the recent actions taken by Lucasfilm, have thrown ourselves into making simple games to keep the activities going. But maybe all that meaning behind the *sigh* comment I did was not clear enough.

This clears up your original comment to this thread. Taking a few extra seconds can inform (some of) us of what your thinking.

But if this was the way your were feeling and you really wanted a discussion on how far the SW community needed to go to keep itself occupied to counter the LFL activities, why not make a new thread, and reference this one as an example. Making the first post of a thread, an off-topic one, does not promote on-topic discussion, and can often turn off new members to start new threads. The idea for a thread which examines how far the Star Wars community (this one or others) has gone to create new SW inspired activities to keep the "force" going, is a good one.

For example:

This lady's made a free pattern to make your own Leia Hair Hat

Episode 2 : "Menaced Jedi Hope, Sith'd Cloned Strike"
ricarleite by now you should be aware of your posting habits. Fairly often you post minimal length comments from your heart. In this case, it wasn't on topic and can be viewed as anti-conversational and definitely anti-topic. So it begs the question, why drag the thread down into your own displeasure, just ignore the thread, move on to something where you can be additive to the topic discussion. (if that's your goal, it might not)

As for the "hit and run" aspect of your posting habits. (it's nice to see your taking this issue serious by reviewing the replys) But with some frequency, i've seen posts asking you for clarification and they go unreplied. Of the forums here, the Off-Topic arena has members who like to post off hand comments for their own self-pleasure. It's fine, it often takes away from serious debate, but we're all part of the problem at times.

This has nothing to do with Lord Phillock, this is a valid topic and a fun idea to play around with. (maybe restart it in the General Topic section) I was commenting on ricarleite's non-constructive comments.

Secret CIA prisons
Time
I believe that this contradiction provides a basic reason why these activities have been kept secret. It casts doubt on the integrity and legality of the government's actions.

The line given at the beginning of the actions in Afgahnistan, was that these individuals who we're not part of an army sponsored by a country, and thus defy the rules of engagement set out by the Geneva Conventions. Thus these individuals we're not going to get trials by the Judicial system of any government but we're to get Military Trials. Now that the specifics of these secret prisons are still hazy. The rules Bush set up in his latest speeches still do not go into how the actions of the CIA are being modified. So in essense, the CIA can still play as they have. To appease public opinion, the "known secret" captives are being added to the Gitmo inmates. This issue still hasn't changed in 5 years, those captured on terrorist war battlefields, do they get the same rights as everyone else or a modified version of justice more in relation to wartimes?

Star Wars DVDs, etc. on Home Shopping Network - Labor Day
Time
My favorite quote from a past HSN special:

(talking about the SW:SE DVDs)
"We've got "A New Hope"... The Next One... and Return of the Jedi"

classic

Well it would seem that the OTVD excitement was only in the morning edition (would like to see it, if anyone cap'd it), they're just hocking lightsabers and signed crap from the same tertiary level cast members who must never stop writing their signature...

For those into Star Wars TV Commercials here's two brought to us by Burger Chef to promote their give away posters.
ANH

According to: http://www.lucasfan.com/swtv/swtvcom1a.shtml one aired during 1977 and the other obviously came out during the release of ESB.

Here's a blog post with scans of the posters:

What You're Reading Now: Revisited
Time
Last three books read:
"Apathy and Other Small Victories" by Paul Neilan (Amazon)
Sick yet funny book about a morally deliquent slacker who gets involved in a murder investigation. Laugh out loud moments but generally a creapy book. It's great! There's swearing in sign language in the book, yeah it's that good, shit head.

"The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer" by Neal Stephenson (Amazon)
This was my first Stephenson book and i'm eagerly awaiting getting into some others. This tale investigates a future world where an engineer develops an interactive book to help guide his daughter. While attempting to make a second copy, the book finds it's way into the hands of girl who's under the tutalage of a disadvantaged family. The story then follows the growth of these books and girls and their way into adulthood. Fascinating look at not only development of an individuals but some of the social political ramifications of a technological world.

"The Fourth Bear" by Jasper Fforde (Amazon)
The setting is a world where book characters occupy the same breathing space as the rest of us. The UK police force has a special division (Spec-Ops 27) which investigates Nursery Crime. Unfortuantely for Detective Jack Spratt, the mass murder, Gingerbreadman (delightful SW reference in his murdering technique for those who read this one) has escaped from prison, a mysterious rash of explosions, and a finicky reporter named Goldilocks has gone missing. Lots of fun, this is the second in the series and an off shoot of the Thursday Next series, so if you like this one, there's many others. (Aside: the author was one of the photographers on many of the Bond films)

'I Bent My Wookie' - The Animated Tribute Project (* unfinished project *)
Time
Collecting all of what you mentioned is definitely several discs worth. Here is another great site which will help you out.
http://www.nerf-herders-anonymous.net/SWRD.html
Listed will be other animated shows which might be out in one form or another.

There's such a vast amount of material to collect, that it might make sense to start collecting with a show that your more familiar with, then proceed to lesser shows. The great thing about this project is that the clips will be small, so trading .vobs with free services like YSI.com or megaupload.com can be a way so that everyone can contribute.
Good luck, you'll need it

2006 OT DVD: Poll: So What are You Going to Do?
Time
I prefer to see these movies in the theater so i'll see whatever version shows up on the big screen. It would seem that as long as George is alive these movies will be revised, and i'm not interested in compensating LFL for these tinkerings. I'll wait till he's done (don't know how to guage that) or he's dead.

It's more fun going through the Hyperspace content to see how these movies we're made, then to watch them anymore. So that's where my funds go.

Star Wars before 1977
Time
A psychologist needs to examine the history of this line of George's:
""So I really want to retire and do a lot of experimental work with film that will probably never be seen by anybody.""
I didn't know he was throwing that line out way back in 76'... I guess it's a way to keep mainstream media off his back in some way. What mainstream publication is going to ask to see an experimental film.

Nice find of the article index, lord3vil.
