Seems strange to see Vader killing everyone then having prisoners marched by. Possible but just feels weird.

HDR10+ is very similar to Dolby Vision, and a lot of TVs only use one or the other. A streaming file with Dolby Vision often isn’t backwards compatible with even base HDR10 and will show up as SDR on older TVs

If voice ai could do it, I think it would work better if Padme says “He wants to help US.” Followed by “HE can’t save you Padme. Only my new powers can do that”

He took it upon himself because of the promise to Qui Gon. Just because he leaves the last part out doesn’t mean the first part isn’t true. The rest isn’t necessary for this film, so no need to add it.

The Summons was originally just a talking piece at the very end. I moved it to a place that made more sense and gave it it’s own track.

Music from The Elder was a hit and miss release with fans. The entire concept album was a musical departure and the released product told a vague story completely out of order. The Japanese CD and the later US Remaster are in a slightly better order, but still don’t tell a cohesive story.

With that said, my intention here is to tell the story of The Elder in the most narratively sound way. I have used the outstanding Japanese P33C release as a base (with Escape from the Island from Japanese Killers Album). I’ve rearranged songs, lightly tweaked volumes, smoothed out transitions, and borrowed a small bit here and there to create an outro.

3. Just a Boy (introduce our hero)
4. Mr. Blackwell (introduce our villain)
5. The Summons (Morpheus and the council)
6. Only You (the boy appears before the council, they tell him only he can be the hero)
7. Under the Rose (the council asks the boy for his oath)
8. The Oath (the boy gives his oath)
9. Dark Light (How bad things have gotten under Mr. Blackwell)
10. Odyssey (our hero’s journey and introduction of love interest)
11. Escape from the Island (our hero travels to Mr. Blackwell’s hidden base and manages to destroy it. Then comes a mad dash escape from the Island base.)
12. I (Congratulatory I did it song)
13. Outro

I wish there were more to the story, but I believe this is the best way to present what is available.

For the Falcon breaking through the ice, could it be extended or slowed down? A single second of crashing through ice doesn’t feel right for the level of damage we see. An extra second would sell it better.

For Vader’s castle - there’s a lot of flashbacks. Would it be worth showing Vader’s castle, then a flash of Rogue One’s bacta tank, then a flash of Vader’s helmet, then finding the way finder?

Actually, cutting that and using it as “From the very beginning…” sounds conceptually very nice.
“Always” and “In the shadows” would work well as Leia sound clips when Rey touches her lightsaber.

I know you’ve used the titles of TFA and TLJ for your sequel trilogy Hal, but have you considered a new title for this one? The Rise of Skywalker just doesn’t convey what this movie (where the Skywalkers go extinct) is about.

My suggestion - Heir to the Empire. The film is about Palpatine’s heir and trying to decide whether it was Kylo or Rey. It’s a classic Star Wars book title, thus fitting with PT naming choices. Plus it gives a good ol’ George Lucas level rhyming scheme to the names of each Trilogy’s Climaxes.

Works beautifully.
I would use the star destroyer closeup as the Pan Down from the crawl, without ties deploying (removed), then behind Kylo on the bridge.
The wide shot of the Planet with the Pan Down I would attempt to center on the Star
Destroyer and incoming Ties and remove camera movement/the Pan.
Then the closeup of Kylo’s face.
Then the closeup of the Star Destroyer with Ties leaving in tact. Then use the initial flash of ties flying past at the beginning of the Planet pandown as an extra flying to the planet (stabilized/no camera movement), then proceed the same with the ties over the planet, though I’d add slight slowmo to the trooper shot to match or gradually adjust to Kylo slowmo.

This may be over the top but I’ve been thinking, if you’re going for the OT look, shouldn’t all of the ships have grain added first to simulate compositing?

Hey Hal, how did you QC this? Was just thinking as you’re moving things over, it might be easier to just run a difference overlay check with the previous edit versions, since only the frames you’ve fixed should show anything. Render it out, throw it on the tv to play as you’re casually working on something else. That way you’ll just see flashes if/when there’s an issue.

Is there any behind the scenes footage of Sebastian Shaw in costume that could be used in the pyre shot? If you put a force ghost shot of him with the ventilator still on but the mask off over the pyre, then have it fade out right before panning up, you could use force ghosts in both shots, and still stick to only Shaw. The film ends with even more of a false sense of security and completion - Luke and Anakin both lay Vader to rest, then we watch both rejoin their comrades.

It was always dull, but I’d bump saturation slightly across the board here on reel 4. You’re not going for pop in general, but the pop here doesn’t match reels 2 and 3 which are perfect. 😃

Could someone seed the French DUBBED THX on the spleen, or help me attain it elsewhere? I’m curious to see it after watching COLD - it seems like a nice balance between detail and color.

Has anyone watched Jay and Silent Bob recently to check some of Carrie’s dialogue from there. I’d imagine most lines are fairly clean in the channel, and she says a few things that might be able to be added dialogue wise off-screen.

Her lines are:

I imagine you could go with

“Rey, be patient” “You are never alone. Nothing’s impossible.” splicing it together, right before Rey’s says “Nothing’s impossible.” (I’d cut the communing with the Jedi, but this works if not.)
It’d be really cool to get “It gets lonely, but you are never alone. Nothing’s impossible.” to which Rey could respond with the “Yes Master” instead of later. Later where she says that could just be filled with reaction shot with a smile.

The broadcast makes sense in this context of seconds after Luke dies, Palatine emerges.

“The day of reckoning has come.”
“The great error has been corrected.”

Luke is dead. The Jedi are gone.
The Sith have won.

In terms of a 9 film saga, this broadcast ties things together nicely, while also providing a cliffhanger reminiscent of TESB reveal.
