Does anyone have access to Kerr’s Hobbit Arkenstone editions? Would love to see them, loved the first one but didn’t realize he finished the set.

I saw on your Titanic thread that you were dropping to 1080p due to banding issues.

Will that affect this project?
1080p or 4k, I’m looking forward to Deathly Hallows 1 and 2, really enjoyed the mixed ratio in films 1, 2, and 6.

How is everyone watching this? I’ve tried in VLC on Windows and Xbox, Movies and TV app on Xbox, and Media Player Classic and VirtualDub2 on Windows, and I’m getting a lot of banding in the opening of Sorcerer’s Stone, most visible when Dumbledore lifts up the put-outer and it’s the only thing in the shot.
My TV is LCD 1080p, my computer screen is LED 3200x1800. Is this only visible from downscaling or on an SDR screen, or is anyone else seeing this too?

Would you be interested in From Star Wars to Jedi from the French Pyramid laserdisc release? Althor did capture and release that.

I’d imagine also that while individual frames may lose a miniscule amount of detail, the fact that grain varies in location by frame means that in motion all available detail shared between frames should still be visible as our eyes view things temporally.

I’m pretty sure too much detail has been lost in the darks. You can’t restore what isn’t there.

Curious if anyone has any interest in branching off this project.

Would love to see the initial parts of the scripts used for this (up through and including Levels and Gamma adjustment) rendered to a lossless file and AI upscaled to 1080p (4k would be Overkill, I’m sure).

I don’t have access to the PAL DVDs or AI upscaling, so this is just me wishing 😅. But seems worth the shot.

I’ve never had reliable external hard drives before, and got tired of losing projects I made so I stopped editing for a long time. Now prices have come down and drives are conveniently small and USB powered and super fast transfer speeds.

Also, I love the open matte versions of the films and think that the extended editions of the first two help the films - SS a bit, and CoS so much I refuse to watch it non-extended.

I’m unlikely to work in 4k - my laptop isn’t powerful enough to render it with any semblance of speed. However, I may get in contact with JJPotter and MJBenito to consider using their work as a basis for mixed aspect ratio extended editions of 4-8. Film 3 will not benefit from an open matte version so I’ll continue to use JJPotter’s for my personal viewing.

Just a project to combine the Open Matte versions of the first two Harry Potter films with their official extended editions. The extended scenes are in the original 2.40:1 aspect ratio, as well as two shots before and after one deleted scene. Otherwise Open Matte (16:9 aspect ratio) was kept as much as possible. Audio is taken from the Extended Edition.

4k=Ultra HD. They mean the same thing.

HDR10+ is very similar to Dolby Vision, and a lot of TVs only use one or the other. A streaming file with Dolby Vision often isn’t backwards compatible with even base HDR10 and will show up as SDR on older TVs

Out of curiosity for a potential Ep 1 project, how did you downmix to stereo?

If voice ai could do it, I think it would work better if Padme says “He wants to help US.” Followed by “HE can’t save you Padme. Only my new powers can do that”
Then “all I want is your love” followed by “I am becoming more powerful than any Jedi… I’m doing it for you”

He took it upon himself because of the promise to Qui Gon. Just because he leaves the last part out doesn’t mean the first part isn’t true. The rest isn’t necessary for this film, so no need to add it.
