Update on recent troll and sock puppet activity
Time

It is the request of the Administrative staff of prequeltrilogy.freeforums.net that any socks (particularly left ones) who have been displaced in this purge find a new home there.

Also, apparently we need someone capable of writing a set of rules, as we received a cease and desist for ours, which may or may have not been copied and pasted from a certain FE.ORG...

Ric Olie, I assure you that His Highness, Grand Master Colt would welcome you with scrawny, pale, 14 year old arms.

Carry on.

If George had only changed Special effects for the SE and DVD, would people have complained as much?
Time

The problem is, with Harmy and Team -1... you don't get that satisfaction of buying the film you love. You have a copy of it, But it's not quite the same.

That's what's really most messed up about the whole ordeal. We all just want to buy a BluRay of the OUT. That way we own it. That way we pay our respects to the people involved financially. I'm sick of doing that for the substandard product that is the increasingly convoluted Special Edition.

It's like ordering a chocolate milkshake and being told I'm sorry sir, but our manager only wants us to sell half chocolate/half vanilla milkshakes. And you reply that that's ridiculous. The guy behind the counter says i agree sir, but he's the boss. You almost walk out the door. But you want the damn milkshake. The milkshake is decent, you stir it up and get a fair amount of the chocolate you wanted. But it could never completely satisfy you, even though the place in question makes the best milkshakes in town. You feel ripped off. But for the same price, you'd come back in a heartbeat if they would just make you an actual chocolate milkshake.

Episode 1: The Phantom Hour (Completed)
Time

Thanks for the feedback Statto :)

1 - Agree here mostly. I'm awful at audio work, so a lot of the longer sequences where I haven't cut anything are due to that. I've considered (with permission of course) refining this edit by splicing in L8wrtr's opening sequence to replace mine - the Trade Federation is greatly improved with some of those small dialogue changes he made, and shaves a bit more time off the edit.

2 - I needed to sew the seeds of the Anakin/Padme obsession/romance, and by my eliminating nearly ever other scene they are in together, the introduction scene was a necessary evil. Otherwise, they have no real scenes together at all. I also believe that the lines aren't that bad, just delivered badly - I mocked this up a while back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV-P39TOOBM

3 - Agree here. I'm not sure I had bluray ripping capabilities when I made the edit, otherwise I would've used the bluray as a source, which would have included cgi yoda.

4 - The lack of the Gungan's battle at the end originally left it feeling uneven. Keeping the grappling sequence kept everything even in terms of pacing and time spent on each piece of what was happening.

5 - I considered leaving the Qui-Gon funeral footage in. However, we already know that there are two sith lords, and that the apprentice was killed - we don't need it spelled out for us by Mace and Yoda. Obi-Wan telling Anakin he will train him is unnecessary, as we just heard Yoda tell Obi-Wan this. The Palpatine "hint" at the end is rediculous and far too obvious. I also tried to avoid any scene where other Gungan's were seen - It just makes you wonder who Boss Nass is and why he is there. All of those added up to me leaving it out.

Thanks for watching. :)

Episode 1: The Phantom Hour (Completed)
Time

Wow, this past 6 months has flown by... just wanted to let everyone know who is interested that this edit will be back online soon thanks to TVs Frink.

As soon as i can grab the edit from there, I'll throw it up on Myspleen and let it seed indefinitely with no caps so hope everyone interested gets to see it using a preferred download method.

I'm no longer actively working on this, but have been searching for a someone to take over the project for years. If you're interested, pm me and feel free to run with it.

Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)
Time

Ultimately... it comes down to the general sharing resources of this community. Many edits use other edits as a basis, many editors use color corrected footage from other editors. Any time a new source is found, it is almost always shared across the community untouched, either before or concurrent with the finder's "Official Version". A lot of us are just ideas people, offering our feedback as we see footage. We offer constructive criticism. But even we all play a role in shaping and sharing.

With that in mind, it is slightly surprising that a project such as Team -1's isn't being shared nearly as quickly. People get focused on a workprint being released for all of us to watch, but I think that's not ultimately the point I struggle with. I take issue with the fact that they are currently the only source of complete 35mm scans of the footage, and aren't sharing their SOURCE to other teams that could potentially color correct and work on the footage for separate releases.

Yes, Team -1's release will probably look outstanding in the end.  But get the unaltered complete SOURCE into Harmy's hands, Adywan's hands, etc. These projects all operate on the premise that the Fans deserve the OUT. Seems out of place then for a fan to hold back a SOURCE from another fan. And yes, this project is unique in facing this issue - every other project is using known and available sources. Perhaps I'm coming across as entitled here... but I feel that this community is built on a level of fair entitlement to see the films they love in the best quality possible...

Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)
Time

My continued interest in this project is based on Harmy's reports of interaction with Team Negative1, using some aspects of their work in Despecialized.

Beyond that, my faith lies in poita, who seems to be our real hope. I can't wait to see what he puts out when inevitably at some point he tackles a 35mm SW print.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Perhaps it's not the lax use by Jedi that is at fault. I'd assume that a Jedi would be quite comfortable using their weapon with little effort, so to give that rarely used feel to them seems ... off.

To me, the problem lies in the lack of public respect of Jedi as a whole that is shown in the PT. Rarely are their actions truly praised, and you never really see Jedi in action just generally doing good deeds. Jedi should be shown rescuing children from wreckage, where the children look up at them in awe and wonder, completely thankful and knowing they are safe because of the Jedi's presence.

We never feel that presence, because the people they generally interact with and protect are either high ranking so there is less sympathy, or just generally unlikeable. The only reason that Yoda and Mace Windu (and Ki-Adi-Mundi) maintained that feel of respect is because they were obviously looked up to within the council. And you can  think it's stupid or hate it all you want, but I have more respect for a lightsaber when Yoda first pulls his out of his cloak in AotC (ignore the jumps and flips and just focus on the drawing the lightsaber), than any time you see Anakin flippantly pull his out.

To me, lightsaber equals jedi - If the Jedi isn't revered, there will be little to no reverence for their use of a lightsaber.

It all comes down to putting characters into situations that the audience can connect with, without overdoing it and shoving it down our throats...

Because I can imagine Imperial Troops holding a group of women and children hostage with an Army of Stormtroopers marching through the mist, and 10 or 15 or even more Jedi attacking this huge army, trying to break through to save the innocent and helpless. Storm trooper heads rolling, blue and green sabers slicing bodies to the ground, blasters taking out Jedi. Utter chaos, watching the kids look on in fear, their mothers crying, trying to soothe them and stroke their hair...
