I don't have a problem with Qui Gonn as a new character......but he should not have been written in as Obi's master.....thats just bad writing in that you're ignoring what's already been revealed. Would it be easier to change the throwaway line in the OT? Definitely, yes......but we're not trying to do whats easy.....we're trying to make the new work pay proper homage to the old, pre-existing work as should have been done in the first place. The OT has been around for 25-30 years (depending on the specific episode), and thats a long time for particular things to become ingrained into popular culture and in the minds and imaginations of loyal fans everywhere....so to then come along and make new films that completely ignore what came before it is not only insulting to the fans, it just downright doesn't make any sense. George was always bitter about the OT....hates the fact that EP V is the most popular film of the trilogy (as its the one he had the least to do with), and that shows in his disregard of it when he made the PT and his million and one changes with every new release of the OT when the coffers get a bit empty.

Yes, they really ARE that bad......BUT....the designs aren't bad at all. The reason there's so much dislike of the PT when compared to the OT by folks like us who are working on Revisited (when it comes to designs) is that they made almost NO effort to match the PT to what had been created before it (and which comes after it chronologically in the SW universe). There's a very rushed 10 mins at the end of ROTS where they try to throw familiar looking things at you in hopes of tying the end of that film to the beginning of ANH, but overall its hard to imagine ANH, ESB and ROTJ coming AFTER the slick, ultra fast feel of the PT. Things should have been made clunkier looking and LESS modern in order to fit with what had already been seen. Hell, even iconic things like the lightsabers were given pointier tips and different sounding on/off effects than what we knew from the OT. Apart from the design aspects theres also all kinds of additional problems and contradictions from OT to PT. Yoda was Ben's former master? Not anymore in the PT. Leia remembered her REAL mother? Not possible after the PT. Dark side not stronger (only quicker, easier, more seductive)? Not in George's PT...now its definitely stronger. The original material that is the OT...the 3 films that made it possible for the PT to even exist were completely disregarded when making the PT and that is what makes them so unlikable to many (not to mention the horrible direction and bad acting). SW had a certain feeling to it.....most likely brought about by the fact that 4 & 5 were character films....NOT special effects films...ROTJ started to show signs of story weaknesses....So when you get to the PT where the characters are barely fleshed out and the "story" reads more like a documentary with better special effects than most....well then you've left out the very feeling that made SW what it was in the first place.

I thought I read that he won't make any new changes but he will undo at least one - changing the torture droid's new "mini-saber" back into a standard needle.

I'm not sure that it was change it BACK...or just CHANGE it. And he's confirmed a few changes. Ben's hut won't be the original, nor the special edition....it will be an all new matte. He's going to try to rework the editing so that 3P0's reaction to R2 getting shot is back to what it was, and he wants that last iconic shot of Tarkin back where it belongs just before the DS blows up. Theres prob a few others but I can't recall them at the moment (the SW:R Wordpress site has them listed)

I'm sure he would have just easily used the Force to float it back to him. It's not like he couldn't, or wouldn't do that, especially in the situation he was in.

I disagree. You HAVE found a continuity error here, no-one is disputing that. But I think if faced with the choice of correcting it either by editing it back into the scene where it is missing, or editing it out of the scene that creates the error in the first place......I think it far more compelling for Luke to throw it away and basically say to himself "I won't be needing that again". Film 6 is the end of SW....so what resonates in the mind more? A happy picture perfect ending with our heroes (and the audience) sure of their place in the world. Or Luke saying to himself (and to us, through his actions) "I'll have no further use for this lightsaber"? Is he giving up being a Jedi? Is he planning on becoming more spiritual and wise...like his former teacher Yoda...thereby not really needing a lightsaber? Its open ended in a way that stimulates the imagination, rather than wrapping everything up nicely and spelling it all out for us. Thats just my view though...

It would make sense that he did retrieve it since he might have to fight his way out of the Death Star.

Thats one way to look at it. Ady might decide that its more symbolic of Luke's now very solid grasp of the force for him to throw it away and never go pick it back up.....figuring that he can use the force to just deal with anything that may come up. Additionally, the DSII is being destroyed...no-one is interested in where Luke is going at that point, they all just want off, the same as he does.

4. Luke's lightsaber is nowhere to be found on his belt while he's carrying Vader to a shuttle. Again, cgi quick fix.

AGAIN, NO IDEA OF ADY'S SPECIFIC PLAN HERE....BUT LUKE THROWS IT AWAY TO MAKE A POINT TO THE EMPEROR. IT SEEMS LOGICAL TO ME THAT HE WOULDN'T HAVE RETRIEVED IT IN THE HURRY TO GET HIS FATHER AND HIMSELF OFF THE DSII.

*he has it on him during Ewok celebration, which implies he did.*

Potentially it could be removed from that shot (not saying it WILL be, just saying Ady could go either way on this)

10. fix the imperial bunker's missing locked door while Han impersonates as an imperial officer to get them to open it.

GOT A SCREENCAP? NOT AWARE OF THIS ONE.

*hmm. Maybe they already addressed this. It was a scene that was either before or after Han was impersonating as an Imperial. Can't remember, really.*

Screencap?

Hi, guys. New member.

I love what Ady did with Star Wars, and I hope the same care to staying true with the original story is first on his list when he finishes the other OT movies. That being said, ROTJ needs more fixes than the previous films, but nothing more than minor tweaks here and there, mind you.

*RESPONSES IN CAPS*

1. Jabba slapping Threepio just looks too slow. A slight fast forward should fix that.

PERSONALLY ITS NEVER BOTHERED ME...HE HAS BULK BEHIND HIS SWING SO ITS BELIEVEABLE THAT IT WOULD KNOCK 3P0 DOWN...BUT I HAVE NO CLUE IF ADY HAS PLANS HERE...

2. Tortured droid's feet in one scene don't touch the hot brands. This should have been fixed in the Special Edition with a little cgi.

MY GUESS IS ADY WILL FIX THIS

3. Lando's cross belt is flipped from scene to scene while he talks to Han about loaning the Falcon for the Death Star attack. Maybe the scenes can be flipped back into proper sequence.

ADY HAS A HISTORY OF CORRECTING FLIPPED SHOTS.

5. Scene where storm troopers are attacked from behind by ewoks should be sped up slightly to make it seem like the little buggers are actually hurting them.

THAT WHOLE BATTLE IS BEING ADDRESSED TO MAKE THE EWOKS MORE BELIEVABLE AS A FIGHTING FORCE.

6. Imperial scout on speeder bike looks stopped before exploding from Chewie's laser blast. Minor tweak should make the speeder bike look like it wasn't stopped.

AGAIN, ODDS ARE THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED.

7. Human henchman in Jabba's palace keeps steering up into camera during Rancor scene. Maybe cgi, again, could alter his eyes so he looks like he's staring downward.

NEVER NOTICED THIS. DON'T KNOW IF ITS SOMETHING THATS EVER BOTHERED ADY.

8. Boba Fett's rockets look a little crooked when he ignites them on the sail barge. Should be fixed so it doesn't look odd.

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY ADY AGREES THAT MANY OF THE FETT FLYING EFFECTS WERE DONE RATHER DODGILY AND HE PLANS TO ADDRESS THAT.

9. Make it seem that Jabba is really be choked hard by the chains.

NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BELIEVING THIS MYSELF.

10. fix the imperial bunker's missing locked door while Han impersonates as an imperial officer to get them to open it.

GOT A SCREENCAP? NOT AWARE OF THIS ONE.

Im sure there's more, but these have always bothered since I was a kid.

EDIT: Obviously Vader would already be partially in costume so that we have no idea that it is Anakin...and the knighting ceremony would just be Palpy formally giving him his Darth name....the "force lift" lowering of his helmet shroud (like in the painting) would be a nice touch though...

Just wanted to comment on how much I've always loved that "knighting" image on the left.  Finding that in my Star Wars Galaxy Trading Cards collection blew my mind as a teenager, and I would be overjoyed if Ady found some way to incorporate this imagery in his ROTS edit!

Agreed.....this has long been one of my fav SW visuals, and would serve to breathe some life back into the idea of the jedi/sith being magical/mystical knights as opposed to the whole "you're born with it or you're not" bullsh*t we got from the PT. Additionally, it would require no known or recognizable faces....it could all be filmed by people in costume. At the most you would need the emperor's chin.....and if his face WAS needed, it could easily be taken from other parts of the film (especially if large parts are to be edited out)

I actually prefer an "aged Hayden" approach for the end of jedi... thus my avatar :)

or leave the ghost in jedi as be and have a "young sebastian" approach to the PT...

While that WOULD be closer to Ady's line of thinking (making the PT fit the OT) its probably too much work. Though who knows what Ady might decide to do.....Jake Loyd actually bears a resemblance to Shaw in my opinion....it COULD be possible that Ady will alter Hayden's face to more closely match Shaw's.

...though I AM still curious as to why we are discussing this in the Ep V thread...

Agreed, though personally this part of the story felt (to me at least) like it was played out in more or less real time. Lando tells them theres still time to save Han, they go running off to do so.....and its not like Fett was gonna be waitin around for anything...once his bounty was loaded onboard he'd be outta there.

On another note I just noticed that the stormtrooper that Chewie takes out after the departure of Slave1 moves quite a far distance across the floor between shots......all while suffering from a laser blast to the armour (which as you all know is instantly fatal to ST's)

But seriously, they could be the ones that show up behind our heroes. Turned around when they heard Leia shooting at Slave 1.

Yeah, thats what I had thought as well (turns out its only 1 ST and 1 bespin guard though....not 2 ST's)

(also only just noticed for the first time that the bespin guard and boba are really transparent in their closeup, you can see the clouds through them......how DID these mistakes get past QC in '97?)

All your skies are looking wonderful, but at the point where our heroes are running down the corridor and we see the tiny Slave I out of the windows, I immediately thought things looked too YELLOWish compared to the more overall ORANGE-looking skies you've done on the shots before and after that one.

I wondered about this one as well. It seems to be an untouched shot from the SE and I agree that it now stands out VS. Ady's more realistic looking skies.
