Nice job RU.08, all are changes done for the '97 SE.
Nice job RU.08, all are changes done for the '97 SE.
Ok, I have finished the Italian cut, will try to make a menu for this, if you have some fitting info text, erri_wan, PM or mail it to me.

Just to clarrify, I'm not having a go at 005, my comments were my only amusement and finding changes not on his comprehensive list was worth a mention! His list was really really valuable to me doing this :)
Why not point them out in his thread instead?
Yeah, it may seem trivial but many have started to use your comparisons as a definite guide for various edits on this board, so there may be confusions otherwise.
Below is how that shot appear in the '97 SE, seems like the hologram was recomped for the 2004 DVD.
These below are incorrectly marked on your list as '97 alterations, they were all done for the 2004 DVD:
Now I will start to sound like a broken record, but these below have all been pointed out before, but they're still marked incorrectly.
2004 not '97:
2004 not '97:
These two wipes were redone in '04:
I'm not sure if they have been redone twice or not, haven't compared the '97 to the original wipes yet.
And the '97-Sunset is still missing in your comparisons:
Sounds like you're after the look of the '97 SE logos, don't know if there ever was an official logo done for ANH in that style, maybe try doing your own with the font "Distant Galaxy Outline".
Thanks for posting, Tobar!
Don't know if this is the one you're looking for:
IIRC, there's another vintage variant out there as well.

American Graffiti. On the DVD version the opening shot was replaced with a cgi sky and they changed the color timing and title card ,plus they used DVNR.
The blu-ray released next week has (by all accounts) taken care of the latter problem. While the original titlecard is certainly worth preserving (and possibly reconstructing), it wouldn't exactly justify watching the entire film at LD resolution if you had the choice.
Are you reading this dark_jedi? ;)
A fan-reconstruction of both the original theatrical cut and the 1978 re-release would be cool. Do we know if the blu-ray is the 25th anniversary edition or have the bearded one altered something again?
Thanks. :)
That is definitely the altered shot 005 was talking about.
Maybe the old "The Raiders of the Lost Ark Collector's Album" could be useful:
"It follows the order in which the movie was put together, from its inception in Hawaii through pre-production, then covers the production set by set, from the first day of filming to the last. Quotes from the director, producer, cast and crew are illustrated with exclusive behind-the-scenes photographs, Spielberg's original sketches of his conceptions for scenes, letters, telexes, storyboards, production paintings and the final movie stills."
Haven't read Rinzler's making of, so I don't know if there really is anything useful in this one that isn't covered in that book. But I have this one scanned, so if you're interested to take a look, let me know.

Yeah, that was the one I meant.

And more importantly, did you get my reply to that email?
No, I haven't. Weird, it did work fine for a while.

Thanks for the post msycamore. How old were you when you first saw it? My brother is almost three years younger than me but he has gone off Jedi more than I have. I wouldn't say he hates it, but he definitely has less tolerance of its faults than I do.
I was 12 years old when I first saw it, I don't hate it but I really think it is a piss-poor continuation of Empire and an average film, I actually watched parts of it when I helped dark_jedi with his project.
Great points, Anchorhead and CO. I agree with you for the most part, but the bigger reason I don't like Jedi is because of the weak script, sloppy direction and bad performances more than the lack of seriousness. But maybe it all goes hand in hand.
alternategotno3d is nice, and some letters even look closer than trade, but I actually think it is slightly too bold, it would be better if you make the comparisons against the Jedi-screenshots on the first page, the 16mm - footage have the white levels blown out making it hard to see the letters true form.
:) We should let Troma restore SW!!
You really like the Special Edition , don't you? bad joke

I like that a lot of the information on Wikipedia is people quoting "Secret History". Nice.
That is really nice, and it makes me happy, those pages can take a lot of turnes until they settles on something. Congratulation you son of a b**ch! ;)
Everytime some bastard utter those scary "SE"-words, I am thinking about the silly easy world of Baronlando where everythng is fine. ;) where there's a good coffy smell in the air and the only star wars is the release Baronlando supervised... he did it just as they transferred Jaws 4 - the revenge. I just happened to remind him about it and he included it just for fun.
Don't wake me up!

Hi, I posted this in my Empire thread but not many poeple seem to be reading that any more and I'm quite proud of it :-) so I thought I'd repost here:
I feel like an asshole for saying this but to my eyes the saber is to orange, I know it's easy for a guy like me to just utter such shit, when you have obviously worked very hard on this, with the shitty '04 transfer as well, but I can't lie about what I think.
If we're talking improvements over the '04 transfer, you have suceeded by far. :) And Harmy, I'm in minority. Well done!
erri_wan, did you ever get my reply? (I'm talking about e-mail)
Sorry Harmy, I just went through the thread. :)
Do you want a nitpicking msycamore in your thread? ;) Seriously though, sorry if I am coming across as ignorant but have you already done Empire and Jedi? haven't followed these.
SilverWook, you must clear your inbox, I cannot send you anything.
Harmy, please don't go to the dark side. ;)
