Idea: Throwing around some ideas for an Iron Man 2 edit...
Time

Timstuff said:

OK, I loved Iron Man 2. I thought it was a fun movie and had lots of great action in it. However, I did not love it as much as the first one, because it had some problems due to pimping the Avengers movie so much. The Nick Fury Easter Egg in the first film was cool, but in Incredible Hulk the ending with Tony Stark felt kind of random and irrelevant to the Hulk movie itself. In Iron Man 2, they just went way off the deep end with all the shameless self promotion for Avengers and I think they should have had a lot more restraint. Nick Fury and Black Widow were pretty much shoehorned into there, and didn't really contribute anything worthwhile to the plot that the other characters couldn't have done on their own.

So, tell us your ideas for what can and should be done with Iron Man 2 to make it a more complete and coherent experience. Myself, I'm of the opinion that the movie is already good but would be better with less Avengers stuff, and possibly have it removed altogether if possible due to it keeping the film from feeling self contained / complete. Also, I didn't much care for the wisecracking and humor during the action scenes, because it took the danger out of them.

I also think this is a good idea for a fanedit:

Well thank you!  I appreciate that.

Not much editing for me anymore.  I used to add deleted scenes back in just for fun but I don't really do that anymore since everything I watch is on bluray now.  I've messed around with ripping and converting bluray's to edit in vegas but it's so difficult to work with 1080p files and most of the deleted scenes aren't finished anyway.

Unfortunately I'm not the creative one.  I was good for ID to bounce ideas off of but not very good at coming up with them on my own.

I do hope if my personal life ever calms down (divorce sucks) that I could do some little things.  I have really enjoyed the few things I've done over the years and wish I had the time to learn to do more.

Sorry to hear about the divorce. Can't imagine what that must be like.

But if and when things do calm down, I'd love to do that idea bouncing thing sometime. Heck, maybe I'll actually edit something I'll actually release.

I'm sure you know I attempted this style edit myself, and after many many cuts, I just couldn't make it work, and refuse to release something I can't stand to watch myself.

Yes it was.  ID's latest cut of the first hour which he did over a year ago now was truly amazing and unique. Sadly enough I don't think anyone ever saw that.

ID unfortunately has retired from fan editing.  :(

If only there was a dialog only track from the prequels....

Yeah, I knew he did. Sad day for sure.

If there a dialog only track, think of all the amazing things we all could accomplish.

Oh, and I appreciate all the stuff you were doing on this project. It was a team effort and your work was amazing as well! Any thoughts on you picking up some more editing? =)

I really wish the Phantom Editor would take a stab at Episode 3 - in my humble opinion, "Attack of the Phantom" is the all-time best fan edit ever and I'd love to see what he would do with the last installment.

Oh yes, his AOTC feels really sinister and menacing. Pity, no colour correction though. But that kiss on Naboo is really great done now as well.

A question for anybody who knows: What happened with Timstuff's TPM doubleedit? Did he make it? Why did he dissapear without a trace?

Excellent question. One that doesn't seem to get answers on his thread. I was interested in what he was doing.

Do you plan on keeping the Gungan battle? I tinkered once with the language tracks, and used Spanish for the Gungans so I completely re-write what they say. In my experimental version, right before the battle between the droids and the Gungans, when Tarpals says: "Ouch time".... I changed it to a subtitle that says, "I have a bad feeling about this." BUt wow... I hate that entire sequence! It's useless.

Ok, I've been absent. I've been reading all of this, but my Iphone wouldn't allow me to respond so I'm just now getting to this.

My 2 cents so far.

Flickering lights: I love it! I do agree with another poster in that it should be dark while he cuts down all the Jedi, and then have them flicker back on as he faces Mace. It would give the scene much more menace.

Dooku as a Rogue: I think I said this somewhere, but I'll say it again... I used to be on the "Make Dooku a Rogue Jedi" bandwagon, but the problem is there is no payoff. Nothing happens with it. It never comes up in ROTS. However, I think THIS could make things interesting. I always felt the SW prequels needed some form of a twist, so how about in AOTC making Dooku appear as a rogue Jedi with a green saber or blue, or whatever.... And the audience thinking he's just a guy trying to form his own government because he realizes a dark jedi is in office. Then at the end, keep the scene where he meet Sidious and then POW, the audience realizes he was in league with the dark lord to create Palpatine's war.

Anyway, something to try.

Bob. Wow. Keep up the amazing work. I'm here if you need me.

I thought Bail Organa should have been younger and also the Han Solo of the trilogy. There should have been a love triangle between him, Anakin, and Padme. I like Bail being the Han part because I was thinking about the saying, "A girl always marries someone like her father." Well Bail raised Leia, and what if Bail in his younger years was a lot like Han.

Again makes sense.... But it's GL's prequels!

Hehe, just posted a reply to your youtube comment. I think the super spin could be dumped after looking at the footage.

-He lights the saber

-Maybe add a "Force run" type sound, like a boom.

-Then just go to the shot of him landing in front of the Jedi.

For sure it would make for a "Oh sh*t!" moment. Like Palps is super bad ass.

*Edit* As for Mace being the only one left alive. I'm still going the route that Palpatine doesnt kill Mace cause he needs him to help turn Anakin. This is all part of his plan. Thats why Mace doesnt die. Otherwise Palpatine just has 4 dead Jedi in his office, and alot of explaining to do. So no need to show that Mace saw him coming. Palpatine wasnt gonna kill him anyways. Well at least, not yet.

Sounds like a winner.

The best of the prequels?

Maybe if you remove the first half of the movie... Sorry just my opinion..  But the opening is sooooooo slllllloooooooooooowwwwwww.

Ep. 1 irritates me on so many levels. Remember the first time you saw Vader.... First 5 minutes, he's breaking someones neck. He wasted no time to let you know he's the villain of this film, and that there is reason to be afraid of him.... From that point on, when he's in a scene, you're waiting on what crazy evil thing he's going to do next.

At ANY point, did ANYONE feel that in Ep. 1? Or any of them for that matter.

Darth Maul was closes to any character to making a scene feel dangerous.. But yet, he failed. For me anyway. Star Wars needs a villain that owns the villain title. Not these green bumbling idiots we seen TPM.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. However it could be better that AOTC. But to me AOTC suffers from very similar issues.... Overly political... And also politically stupid.... One VOTE impeaches a chancellor?

Ugh.. I'm done ranting. Everyone have a coke and a smile! =)

Lightsaber looks great.

The other Jedi getting killed in 2 seconds doesn't bother me too much. It's just how it looked in it's original form... They looked like they just stood there so Palpy could kill them... In the words of Mr. Plinkett: "I guess because the script told them to."

Bob made it roll faster in his edit and it seems like he is just that fast. It no longer bothers me.

No no no no. You guys misunderstood me. What I meant to say with that whole "Anakin-to-Vader transformation" was -

that scene where those robots transform Anakin into Darth Vader, not the whole emotional converting process through the trilogy (that pretty much sucked).

I was just talking about that one scene at the end of ROTS. It's a cool scene which I was really looking forward to see 5 years ago and I'm still very excited about it when I see it.  And I think  that it should stay and should not be removed.

I like most of that sequence... But if someone were working out their ideal saga, I think it would be fine to end it somewhere after the fight. And then later add that sequence as a flashback when Obi-wan is talking to Luke about Anakin in ROTJ. That way it still lives on.
