I respectfully disagree.  For me, the replaced language tracks I've heard are obviously either non-English or reversed, and stick out like a sore thumb.*

*not a comment on this edit specifically, as I've not seen one minute of it

He doesn't use language tracks in this episode version.

I didn't like the reversed tracks, but spanish didn't bother me much... Mainly because even in english, Jar-Jar is broken english, so I thought that maybe that would be the same in spanish, and by being broken spanish, grant a license to change up dialogue.

However, I like Trooperman's Austrailian Jar-Jar far better than any of this.

I never knew Magfan's Jar Jar was a foreign track played backward-- I guess that might bother me the next time I see it. However, I totally enjoyed having to read Jar Jar's lines. It allowed his backstory to be molded, made him less dumbed down and more OT.

I think they should have gone for Australian like you did-- letting that culture inform the Gungan design and sound would have made them way more appealing. But trying to mix that in after the fact in Ep2 is tough. There's so little Jar Jar to work with that it does, unfortunately, stand out.

Yeah, the foreign track was hard to deal with, but I thought the idea was pretty sound... Wouldn't be the first time you read subtitles in a SW film.

Once I tinkered with TPM, and used the Spanish track, which works great when trying to sync perfectly, but I changed the dialogue to make the film stronger, and it still works unless you're fluent in Spanish. =)

Hey TJ! Hey Erik!

Remember that with the 3PO story, in the rough cut, 3PO stays in the ship.  R2 rolls over to the panel and saves Padme from the furnace, and then we forget about him.

Replacing the original dialogue (indicating that Anakin built 3PO) would not change any of that.  There is no way I am reinstating that head-swapping fiasco...

It's just a question of a good story overall.  I would prefer it if everything weren't so closely-knit.  Yoda knew Chewbacca.  Darth Vader built C3PO.  Etc. Etc.

But for the question of 3PO, I don't see an effective workaround given available footage.

So, do you believe a voice change for 3P0 might be the best option?

Wow... Lots of dialogue going on in the first short hours that I posted.

I understand the concerns of having c-3p0 leave with Anakin... I wonder if he has to been seen leaving with Anakin? Change 3p0's voice to something else, and just leave without the droid. I feel confident you could make enough cuts to eliminate him even being with him. The only times you see him again is when he delivers more awful lines, and his stuff in the Geonosis arena... We won't miss that. Not sure if eliminating is possible past his scenes on tattooine, but it's worth a try maybe?

Good to see all the Starkiller people popping up again! =)

I just screened it again and it is amazing. It's a totally different movie-- really almost the movie I would have dreamed of.  The number of things that work now but didn't come close to working in the original is amazing.

I have about ten small things I'd want to change, but two big ones: Jar Jar and Threepio.

If possible, I strongly "vote" for them to be reverted to Magfan Edit style.

Jar Jar is so much a horrible fact of life in the PT that adding anything that makes him stand out MORE is just salt in the wound.  I think the voice and subtitle approach in Magfan's edit does a lot to diminish his presence. (I can't believe that, essentially, Jar Jar is the lynch-pin of Sidious' entire f**king plan! It's almost as if Qui-Gon saved this idiot Gungan, and the Republic fell as a result! D'oh!).

Threepio is in the same boat-- especially in this improved edit. Anakin comes off as so much more smart and disciplined and focused now.  To have him take Threepio requires much more backstory than can be filled in here, if we pretend Anakin didn't build him. The current idea, that Owen pays Anakin to take the droid makes no sense and diminishes Anakin's character. Why didn't Owen save himself the money and simply deactivate the droid? This "workaround" loses ground instead of gaining it.

I know you had your heart set on these changes, TM, and I thought you had good strategies. But after living with them a while, they have stopped "working" for me. I've come to see them as way below the standard set in the rest of this awesome edit. TM, I only mention these problems because EVERYTHING else is working so damn well!

Maybe I'm off-base, but I thought I'd bring my opinion here to the forum. Anyone else agree?

Whatever the case, I am eternally grateful for the amazing amount of good work you've done here, TM. I love this edit.

MTHaslett - I agree with you on the point of 3p0. It's just too early for him to be in this film IMHO. Maybe keep him silent, or redub his voice to indicate that he's a different protocol droid might work.

I ALMOST agree about Jar-Jar. I actually liked what Trooperman did with him in the opening scene where he greets the Jedi. I didn't find him annoying anymore... However, I don't believe he should be the reason the Clone Army is launched... There was a cut where Mace shows up just as Palpy is explaining that he'll lay his power down.... Blah blah blah... That way you don't know who made the motion or anything. You just know it happened and that's all you need to know. Just a thought.

But yes, this cut, even in workprint form is far greater than the original cut. So much work has been done here, and I really hope to see this finished. It was just fresh feeling. Very enjoyable.

During my time with my motherboard being down, I've spent a few nights writing up a outline or how I would attempt a edit such as this. It's always tossed around in my head as MrBenja mentioned the concept to me awhile ago. I'm about half way thru a rough draft write up that I think could be possible to pull off. It's alot more daring then I would have imagined, but thats the style I like to go with. Once I get my motherboard back up and running, and finish up my "Reign of the Dark Side" edit. This might be something I would be interested in doing before I move onto the rest of the movies following the outline of my episode 3 vision.

If I was to attempt this, It would no way be connected with the rest of the movies I plan to release. But as a stand alone story.

So far what I've come up with on paper comes no where near what was already being attempted by other editers. So If anyone were to pick up this project based on whats been already layed down by others in this thread. It would still be a major difference from what I'm going to try to attempt.

Hope to see a thread about that very soon. =-)
