I think you're right, Sluggo.
I think you're right, Sluggo.
Great work.... That one element helps the scene actually make sense, Bob.. Now, it doesn't seem stupid that Obi-Wan jumps down all stupid-like for no reason.. Now, it seems like he's trying to keep Grievous in the room until his posse shows up. =) (It's still a little stupid that he jumps in the middle of it all, but I understand you are limited there.) =)
Yes, the new music really makes the film fresh.
Would be great if that would remain the opening theme for all prequel films.
Cut - I can't recall the name of the music, but TM was explaining to me that he believed that George Lucas gave this piece of music to John Williams to give him an example of the kind of theme he was looking for.
Thanks... I was just concerned.
Has anyone heard from Ady lately? Is he doing better with his headaches?

The reason I'd be a bit hesitant about redubbing Jar Jar is that you're not redubbing TPM with the same voice, and for me personally I'd like SOTDS to be the middle chapter of the ultimate fan edited prequel trilogy.
I don't think it would be a big problem if Jar Jar had no dialogue. I really don't like the subplot of Jar Jar being responsible for getting Palpatine's army. It just demeans the whole myth of the clone wars we grew up with... so take out that subplot and there's no need for Jar Jar at all. And like I wrote earlier Qui Gon isn't in the last two prequels, and he was the protagonist of TPM. So dropping Jar Jar wouldn't be without precedent.
Well, perhaps there will be a TPM cut by TM... Not speaking for him, but who knows....

Now I'm confused. Is the idea to cut Jar-Jar out as much as possible?
Wouldn't it be jarring to cut out Jar-Jar in Episode II after playing such a prominent role in Ep. I? Better or for worse, Jar-Jar is part of Star Wars. My goal, like MagnoliaFan, was to try and change his character to make him as inoffensive as possible...even humorous.
I dislike Jar-Jar as much as the next guy, but can we cut him out completely in Ep. II? If I can get this dub to work out, I think he could be a good character.
And by the way, I've spoken with Nanner Split and he has offered to try both English and alien for Jar-Jar. So if we were to use the alien, it wouldn't be backwards audio or Spanish or anything like that...it would be newly recorded.
I'm for the redub, TM.... I'm only for cutting him out if he stays the way he is... I feel, you're on the right track. Just wanted to clarify! =)
Cut the whole exchange.... Everything after Obi-Wan and one-eyed willie are discussing armed guards.... You don't need anymore information. It's one more time Anakin gets to be whiny.
Or just the cut before that even happens.

Well, unless my memory is failing me, the subplot of Jar Jar being responsible for approving Palps' army remains in SOTDS.
One of the things about Attack of the Phantom I liked was how Obi Wan and Anakin ignored Jar Jar when they were re-introduced. I'd personally like to see the same approach taken here.
I would have to go back to look... But regardless, I don't believe it will remain in the final cut... Could be wrong though.
I agree... But if the alien language or redub doesn't work, I can deal with never hearing him. =)
White is the best way to go in my opinion as well... I can tell you are having fun, Bob! =)

Yes. Almost ready to start sending stuff, Ben. As for this last exchange, it was a fun conversation, but at that point we are talking about a different edit. What I've got to do at this point is make a cleaner, more professional version of the rough cut that's already out there, while incorporating improvements wherever I can (that are not completely daunting, like a new ending, etc.)
A big part of this new version will be colors that look real, and images that have depth (thanks to Ben).
Also, I want to try and stay away from major plot changes at this stage in the game- the one exception being that Syphodias is actually Qui-Gon, because if we can get the new dub, that should be a quick fix and makes Qui-Gon's character much more important.
I am still back to the same quandaries as before though:
-What to do about Maul=Grievous in this movie (if anything).
-How to handle Jar-Jar...English or alien with subitles?
-TM
Well said.
As far as Maul/Grievous..... Having been one to tinker a bit with possibilities, I personally feel we need to leave that aspect alone... For me, it's not feasible at the moment. There just aren't enough resources for me to pull it off.
Perhaps we can simply explain Grievous in a new Ep. 3 crawl?
Can't wait to get to work, TM! =)
Wow.... It's gotten a bit nuts here. =)
TM, any updates?
Good to see activity back on here. =) I can see you're having fun with cs5. lol
Sounds good, Bob. Still excited about this, and as always would love to help in any way that I can.
I asked this on the other forum, but, I'll ask here... How do you like AE cs5? How are those predictive masks working out for you?

Dude. That's crazy talk.
Hmmm. Interesting...
I will say this: the end of the movie SOTDS needs to complete the love story. We can't just leave Padme in the sand getting picked up by a clone.
So what is an alternate kissy-face ending?
BTW: I think TM should lose the clone dialogue as he arrives to help Padme. The scene reads fine without it and the music carries the content anyway. I think the voice can't really work as well as imagining what the voice is like or what's being said. Anyone else have an opinion? I think this would be a small, easy, but valuable change.
Well, we already have a kiss scene on Geonosis... Could be interesting if that's the first kiss, and then you could use the shot from Naboo where they kiss as the final shot... Slow down, and the go to credits.
I had a thought that might spark conversation.... Might not...
What if Anakin and Padme never get married? (I say this after I've removed 3P0 from the scene.)
The whole marriage thing being the scandal was always a bit silly to me... Perhaps because where i live it's the other way around... The scandal would be... Wow, Padme is pregnant. And wow, Anakin is the father..... Wait, they aren't married are they?
It also gives them a stronger reason to look so uneasy and well, sick to their stomachs when Padme delivers the news that she's carrying Anakin's child...
Just food for thought....
Hey Bob.. How are things coming??
Big shame....
But I understand at the same time.
Yep.
I don't know if this is hijacking... These conversations can help both edits.
Yeah sorry. Meant to say that I already scrolled down and found... Even forgot that I read about this. Thanks for the link regardless.
I can deal with that... Just like I can deal with "Grrrr" meaning so much to Han Solo. I think they can figure out that him being on the ship all this time and coming out all alarmed meaning that something has happened and they need to get to the ship to find out. Not a deal breaker for me.
MTHaslett said:
To remove 3p0 from the story, all we need to do visually is remove him from the interior space ship shots as Anakin and Padme decide to rescue Kenobi.
After that, I think we can cut around his shots entirely. As far as I recall, we only see him again on the same space ship telling R2 that he won't be going out to help save Anakin.
If we re-dub the grey, sun-baked protocol droid at Owen's farm with a robotic voice that is clearly NOT Anthony Daniels then he can simply be one of the droids on the farm. He can be at the funeral and even say the line, "He's carrying a message from an Obi Wan Kenobi. Does that name mean anything to you?" It may work better coming from a different voice anyway.
Just saying. Not a big deal because TM has already made 3p0 so small in the movie that he almost causes no pain. The biggest problem he poses in SOTDS is in attempting to un-do the idea that Anakin built 3p0. If we eliminate 3p0 altogether, it also makes this ambition possible. A new TPM edit could be done which eliminates 3p0 from that movie too. Hmm.
During Anakin and Padme's discussion, 3p0 isn't even seen... You just have to cut him talking about Space travel... Or whatever the crap he was saying.
