Thanks. As it was pointed out, the images and video have been shared before (and I may even have them myself on a HDD). Was just asking if anyone has them handy.

But the information part might be interesting, when it comes time that you can share.

We’re not talking about video captures from the demo reel. We have the actual scenes, videos, and comparisons of footage without grain, and processing.

We’ll see what happens, when the time comes.

Well then, given the team’s collective belief that the OOT isn’t coming to home video any time soon, it sounds like there might not be good news in store.

No disrespect intended, but unless he works for Lucasfilm or knows someone who does, I don’t see why his belief regarding the OOT holds any more weight than anyone else’s on this forum.

Not to mention, who cares if it’s canon? It doesn’t matter one bit. The books are still around, and they are no more or less fictional than they were when they were arbitrarily considered canon. Also, if George decided to make Episode VII instead of selling to Disney, do you think for one second that he would have remained faithful to the Fat Dancer getting married to Luke story? Of course not.

Does anyone have the image capture from that 4K demo reel?

We have more information, and the actual videos and screen captures also of it.

But currently, they remain private. When the time comes, we can shed some light on it.

Several comparison shots are in the first couple pages of the old “4K Restoration on Star Wars” thread

We know for a fact that the Library of Congress made scans at Disney’s request (assuming moviefreakmind is honest). For what other purpose than an OUT reconstruction would a faded, 40-year old print be useful?

The information on the Library of Congress comes from the user “Vidiot” who worked with George Lucas on previous Star Wars projects. The link to his exact statement was posted earlier in this thread. He posted it on this page of the forum.

“BTW, this didn’t get a lot of publicity, but about 2 months ago, Disney requested that the Library of Congress make for them a scan of the original 1977 copyrighted theatrical print of Star Wars. I casually know the guy who did the scan over at the LoC. My bet is that they’re going to use this for reference to see where all the cuts, changes, alterations, and titles were done. But even if they started today, I’d be surprised if they could get a remastered 4K version done in a year.”

I occasionally check the Steve Hoffman forums because there are a couple of users who have knowledge about Star Wars related projects. The user who worked for Lowry said that they have requested a scan of the original print of Star Wars from the Library of Congress, two separate people have said that the original releases were scheduled to be released in 2015 but were postponed because the restorations were taking longer than expected. Another person recently posted something about the Empire of Dreams documentary being remastered in HD (which I think I heard about a few months ago too). I know it’s perfectly possible that all of these people are misinformed but I think there’s something to all of it. One of the users even cited the RMW project specifically.

I think what usually confuses people about my list is the seeming inconsistency of the ranking, like having From Russia with Love at number 1 and then putting The World Is Not Enough ahead of Goldfinger. My list revolves around nostalgia a lot, which is why Octopussy is ahead of what many would say are superior films like Thunderball. I will say that I really don’t understand the disdain for the World Is Not Enough. I know it isn’t great but I think it’s a well executed action movie; perhaps convoluted but I wouldn’t say it’s any more convoluted than Spectre.

I don’t necessarily have a problem with Wesley Crusher, I just found it horribly distracting that he a 15 year-old kid was constantly in the midst of the action and sitting in on board room meetings. I also didn’t like how much of a brilliant genius they made him in every episode.

By the way, I don’t know if this is still the case, but the TNG episodes on Netflix as of about about a year ago were very poor compared to what Amazon has. Amazon has HD episodes while Netflix had some king of low quality transfers.

My ranking as of today, it’ll change next time I watch one though - also note that I like all of these films except for Die Another Day, which is the only one I actually do not enjoy watching, even though it does have its moments.

2 Casino Royale
3 Dr. No
4 Skyfall
5 The World Is Not Enough
6 Goldfinger
7 The Spy Who Loved Me
8 The Living Daylights
9 Goldeneye
10 On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
11 Octopussy
12 The Man with the Golden Gun
13 Licence to Kill
14 Moonraker
15 Spectre
16 Tomorrow Never Dies
17 Thunderball
18 Diamonds Are Forever
19 You Only Live Twice
20 For Your Eyes Only
21 Live and Let Die
22 A View to a Kill
23 Quantum of Solace
24 Die Another Day

I’m rewatching TNG on Amazon Prime, and it’s the first time I’ve ever actually watched the entire series completely in order. I forgot how almost every episode early on basically involved the crew facing a problem, and then half way through Wesley Crusher would come in and say, “Pardon me, but I’m a brilliant genius and I know how to solve this”. Can’t wait until he leaves the show.

Either this: “…in his youth Greedo lived on Tatooine in Mos Espa alongside fellow Rodian Wald and Anakin Skywalker. When young Skywalker won the Boonta Eve Classic, Greedo accused him of cheating, and the two boys scuffled. Their fight was broken up by Qui-Gon Jinn, and Wald warned Greedo that if he continued his violent ways, he would meet a ‘bad end’.”

Or this: “in fact, she even danced the Dance of the Seventy Violet Veils at the wedding of Han Solo and Leia Organa where she would be spotted by a designer and became the model for his jeweled brassieres. After that Doallyn managed her career as a model. She had two daughters, named Luka and Leia after Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa”

This one is referring to the “Fat Dancer” from Jabba’s Palace. Apparently I’ve been wrong in assuming the past 20 years that she was just some lady who danced at Jabba’s Palace. She’s actually best friends with Han, Luke, and Leia!

What the heck?

Is the Star Wars universe smaller then my backyard and populated by less then a dozen people? Why do the same few people turn up in everything and knowing everyone? What kind of sense does that make?

I hate to say this about anything related to the first two seasons of TNG but I have to, they got it right. In the early first season Riker and others just barely remember who Kirk is because he was just some guy from history class when they were kids and the only two races from TOS that show up are Klingon and very briefly the Romulans. That is how you make a fictional universe feel big and epic and like there are more then two stories to tell. You don’t have the same races turning up all the time and you have people not know each other because the universe is a big place and they have never met.

Good night that was insane. This is why I could never get into the novels, they always seemed to just be retreading old ideas and characters instead of making new ones. I tried but as a kid I could never make it to the end of a Star Wars EU novel and I was Wodehouse and Shakespeare at the time so it wasn’t that they were too long or hard for me to read, they just seemed stupid and pointless.

That’s a good comparison; the closest tie-in during early TNG was Bones showing up in the pilot episode. I think that the dancer’s story (whose name is of course something along the lines of “Yarnu Glooptu-Goon”) was best friends with Luke. You see in the background of Jedi she is laughing hysterically at the green dancer being eaten by the Rancor. I assumed she died, along with all the muppets, when the barge was destroyed, but she’s actually just best friends with the Skywalkers and Solos.

Movies generally considered "bad" that you like.

Moonraker is one of those movies that is more cute than exciting. It’s just a fun Star Wars ripoff with a spy in it, and I really like it. I don’t know what Man with the Golden Gun was supposed to be but it is just so wonderfully bizarre I can’t help but love it. Christopher Lee’s performance is one of the best in the franchise as well.

The problem with explaining the Bible to young kids is that it is very hard to understand, especially for someone young, not to mention that it describes disturbing situations such as incest, rape, murder, war, etc. etc. Also, a certain level of knowledge about the historical context is necessary to understand what it is even saying (“kick against the goads” and phrases of that sort), so you should probably just have them read specific passages that directly relate to basic Christian beliefs if your goal is to give them a general understanding of the religion; after that it can be up to them if they want to explore it more. Even still there is the question of which translation to use, as some of the easier to understand translation are questionable at best when it comes to accuracy.

The CDs appear to be SE only, while vinyl is original. iTunes has both digitally

But isn’t that just the regular SE releases?

The new Ultimate Collection on iTunes is OOT only, no?

  • Vinyl: OOT
  • CD: SE
  • ITunes: OOT

If I hadn’t got the 1993 box set I’d be all over that new iTunes collection.

Yeah, you’re right. The CD’s I think are older releases. The new releases are only the original soundtracks.
