Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' - special project (* unfinished project *)
Time

Hi, Titanic. Welcome abord &... don't sink too soon with the actual Disney cargo (sorry, the pun was too tempting) .I've never said that I'll do a 3d downscalling, so don't worry about that, I'm working with the other version mostly. The LD image, even on the screencaps, seemed a little over brightened so I toned down a little during the edit I'm doing on my free time at home (meaning not too often these days, alas). I'm also matching the original colours so the final product will have the same colours (or very close) from the LD (only the brightness, contrast & saturation from this source will be corrected a little bit).

So, it might take a while since I'm doing this shot by shot and also I'm doing the audio (english & french) that need to be reconstructed from scratch depending of the sources.

So, in the end, the waiting will well worth it.

First of all I have to say, Beauty and the Beast is my favourite filmof all time, and I was so frustrated on  Disney because it altered the colors radically!

So, i refuse to buy the Bluray, and I'm watching the film only from a LDrip i got from the net.

What LD rip do you have exactly?

It's a LD rip that I got from someone here. Not the best quality, but still useable.

I'm entirely with you about Disney with it's actual management, let them screw themselves up with their new and cheezy franchises. They are actually going the same way as Universal with Phantom of the opera (1925), a film that put them on the map but abbandonned anyway, which was nearly ok since some good edition and restaurations came out from others, which is the oppsite of the actual Universal Monsters collection. Although, Disney are becoming so cheap now that they can't assume good restaurations from real professionnals (sorry, but Lowry stinks) just in the name of money. They've pushed so hard on protection of copyright just to be sure that the Disney era stuff stay in their hands only for pocket money, while there's not much money there, they prefer to let those collect dust instead of doing something about it. Their recent batch of barebone Blu-Rays and dvds (some filled with so idiotic stuff) shows just how much they don't care about their more advised customers. That's the main reason Why I'm boycoting them.

So, there you go...

I'm afraid, monks19, that you need to do some research on the basics of DVD video.  tmpgenc & TsMuxer shouldn't even be involved.

Well I do my video based on methods found on videohelp.com (way before I discover this website). I've been looking on how to improve the one I use, but the process wasn't really efficient.

BTW Dr M, would you care to do a good tutorial of your method(s) ? I'll be really interested (like many others, I'm sure) to learn a little more about it, especially if it's a great improvement for dvd conversion.

What fps problem is there?  The R1 DVD is 23.976 progressive.  Unless you're talking about Martins/Coys.

No, unfortunately. The source master might be from a 23.97 fps, but the dvd, once ripped, clearly indicate the fps at 29.97 (checked with both tmpgenc,  TsMuxer & DVD FAB).

I updated Wikipedia today since they didn't seem to have info about the changes to ATCJI.  It has me worried if there are other alterations that we haven't noticed.  (I actually double checked for cherub nudity alterations during one scene.)

In order to dead sure, we have check nearly frame by frame (at least for ATCJI). For Pecos Bill, I can't say, but I can check it out, I have both versions on DVD (PAL & NTSC).

What you said before about the painting was done exactly the same way with virtualdub, so, no trouble with that. For the re-encoding I used Premiere.

But the problem is the original vob file is compromised because of the motion mode it's been encoded, which have some motion blured artifacts, even in NTSC. That's something I would need a solution for. I woul like to put back the whole film at 23.97 fps. I was able to limit it with tmpgeng, but not completely. That's why I would need a VERY good tutorial on how to do this (sorry if I wasn't more specific before).

For the vhs source, I'll let you handle it (at 23.97) since I'm not too confident with scripts, but you can always show me with a good tutorial.

So, I'm waiting for your suggestions.

You should know that what you have on YouTube is incorrectly 29.97 fps running at 23.976.  That means it needs to be decimated and re-encoded before it can be used... and you probably painted 20% more frames than you needed to.

Also, not only are you missing all the butt-through-towel action, but also some more side-boob while she's doing it.  (It is easy to miss if your source is small.)

That's why I asked you to get a copy of your vhs source. I still have the working files. If I have to start over again, I can manage to use some of the older ones with it.

As for the "dragging my feet parts", sorry about this, but I'm not always at home to do my things, especially as a professional corporate photo/videographer & graphic artist. So...

I have little expectation that providing you with the VHS cap will prove to be a benefit to me.  As such, I will make the clip available to everyone after I release the completed DVD.

As you wish, then I'll do my thing. But honestly, I think it's too bad that we can't really collaborate much on this. I have my part to blame because of the delays, true, but aside that...

Well the choice is yours, anyway, so...

ww12345, in your fantasia project, did you manage to find a good quality source other than the BR ? If so that would be interesting to find a source that have the Pastoral uncut/unedited and the whole film with the right colors even thought that it wont probably fit with the I. Kostal score.

By the way, any update on your SOTS project ?

Thanks to answer

My other option is to include the LD rip I have on the same Blu-ray disc as a bonus à la Star Wars (or how it should have been done, anyway). If somebody here is interested to re-capture the LD with the appropriate device & settings, I think it'll help in both ways.

So, what do you think ? Continue the extensieve work to get something close out of the 3d version, of just put the two versions together (and other goodies) and be done with this project ?

Need help for color matching (animation video) footage)
Time

Hi Spaced Ranger. For color filters, gamma and  contrasts, I got theese covered. But, since it's an animation, I have some trouble with colors that were actually replaced in the film. I don't really masterise completely after effects yet, but, I'm sure I can come up with something wery close to the original. Although, my LD rip, provided by someone here, may not be a very good source because of the capture settings.

Ill try to see what other options I can get and then make my move.
