What didn't you like about TFA? SPOILERS

Oh. Hm. I think maybe he’s saying that he’ll pretend for his own sanity that one beam destroyed the whole Hosnian system and the other four were errant/to other systems entirely.

I’d rather just accept that it’s a movie and that if Star Wars subscribed to physics it would be boring.

Lol, pretty much. Obviously Star Wars is pure fantasy, but that scene was a bit much even for Star Wars, IMO.

I tried to rationalize the blasphemy of being able to see the five distinct lasers from Maz’s planet (even though the five targets shown were all within the space between Earth and it’s moon) as the shot hitting a few key planets/bases where the remainder of the republic fleet was. Meaning that the Hosnian system and its moons(?) were blown up by only one of the beams as seen from Maz’s planet.

At least that sounds better in my head.

Ranking the Star Wars films

I have 3 levels of Star Wars Glory when comparing the theatrical versions of the films:

Group #1
ESB
ANH

Group #2
ROTJ
TFA
ROTS

Group #3
TPM
AOTC

I consider TPM and AOTC pretty poor films but not “batman and robin” bad. I think ROTS (especially fan edited) is easily on par or better than ROTJ or even TFA in some aspects. And then IMO ANH and ESB are untouchable masterpieces that should be worshipped day in and night out.

I agree with this.

The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread
Time

The whole point of the prequels was to show how Anakin got in the suit and became Darth Vader. I can’t believe some were expecting the ESB reveal to be preserved. If you’re not gonna show Anakin become Vader, then there’s no point to having prequels. Obviously some people here are fine with that, but since they exist, I really don’t see the point of that change. ESB was released 33 years ago, we all know what happens, and everyone knew what was going to happen when they were making the PT. The only reason people were interested in the PT at all was to see the transformation.

Seeing the transformation is one of the few payoffs of the PT, why take it away?

What are your favorites? List 'em 1-6
Time

Don’t know what the hell I was thinking when I made this thread almost six years ago now. Today it’s

ESB
ANH
ROTS
ROTJ
TFA
AOTC
TPM

I know, I know, Sith over Jedi is bad. But I really hated the 2nd death star, if they didn’t have that then it might honestly be my favorite. The Emperor/Vader/Luke scene is probably my favorite scene in the saga and it’s a perfect conclusion (for the first six films at least). I go back and forth.

EDIT: Added in The Force Awakens. I really thought it was a fantastically made film, and from a film making perspective, it’s top 3 IMO. But I ranked ROTJ low because of the 2nd superweapon, a 3rd superweapon for the 2nd movie in a row is just ridiculous. It showed up, blew up a planet we don’t know/care about, and was destroyed. It’s just too repetitive at this point, hopefully the story can actually move forward now without some big pointless superweapon.

(Spoilers)How could The Force Awakens have been more original?

And the destruction of the Republic Fleet. That’s going to play a big role in the rest of the ST. I’m glad that it’s gone but at the very least it’s going to impact things in the future.

It just seemed to me that blowing up the new republic and the entire fleet (like they would all just happen to be parked at that planet anyway) was just an excuse to go back to the way the OT was: a small band of people fighting a powerful enemy. We’re basically where we were at after ANH.

Ditch the Starkiller Base superweapon. It wasn’t needed whatsoever. Instead make Starkiller Base a plain old military base that doesn’t get destroyed.

THIS. I feel the same exact way. The plot still works if you take out the damn superweapon as Kylo kidnaps Rey and they have to go rescue her. The only thing that doesn’t happen is the destruction of the utterly pointless Hosnian system. Just have one roundtable scene touching on the New Republic’s efforts to establish a permanent base, or just don’t blow up the New Republic at all, whatever.

No superweapon would make TFA much, much more enjoyable IMO. I thought it was great besides that.

What Didn't You Like About ROTS?

I can be specific.

Everything BESIDES most of Ian McDiarmid’s acting and the Order 66 scene.

I liked the Order 66 scene, but I rolled my eyes hard at the name “Order 66” lol.

And Samuel L. Jackson as an actor didn’t seem to fit the role very well overall, but I thought the scene before he gets thrown out the windows was pretty good, and seemed to fit him more.

In fairness, this weakness was far less “critical” than in the OT. In TFA they had to infiltrate the base and plant explosives inside to allow access for the rebels. Far less “critical” a weakness than an open exhaust port leading to the core.

True, but it still got destroyed really quickly and I just can’t believe that there was actually another superweapon for the 3rd time in 4 movies. I mean one of the main reasons I rank ROTJ lower than the other movies in the OT is because of the 2nd death star, that was unoriginal enough. I never thought they’d make ANOTHER one.

The Visual Effects of The Force Awakens (Spoilers)
Time

Couple scenes took me out of the film a bit:

 1. When Han, Chewie, Rey and Fin are on the Starkiller base looking up at that “oscillator” thing and the battle is going on above them. Looked like they were standing on a projector or something.

 2. Han walking out on the plank towards Kylo, same thing as above. The background just did not feel real, Han was just not blended in well here.

Everything else was fantastic. Snoke and Maz were fine, not perfect but didn’t take me out of the movie at all.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

Interesting they would throw a new seat for the Republic at us, and not make it look different than Coruscant.

-New desert planet that’s not Tatooine
-New ragtag team of “resistance” that’s not the Rebels
-New superweapon that isn’t the Death Star
-New jedi master in exile that’s not Yoda

Fits the theme I would say.

Info: Frame by Frame Mistakes... in TPM
Time

TPM has a lot of visual oddities, one glaring one for me is the initial shot of the jedi temple, the surrounding areas look really flat and not at all like they appear in AOTC and ROTS.

Also, in AOTC, on the initial shot of Kamino, the water looks really fake and not convincing at all.

As for frame-by-frame specifically, I honestly hadn't noticed that. I bet there's a ton of those oddities though.
