//RETURNING TO JEDI\\: NTSC & PAL DVD
Time
My disc arrived today. First wave of UK'er requests - your discs have gone out this PM.

Let me be the first to say that this is a magnificent job, Jambe.

A true brother to "Building Empire" with, dare I say it, new tricks that have been learnt along the way since then, which actually means that it often eclipses "BE" !

A lot of (evident) hard work has gone into this. Whilst dabbling my toe into this type of venture (on a vastly reduced scale) with the Alien Appendix and Dawn of the Dead projects, I can appreciate that the mere smallest of changes that are made take so much time to synch up and polish to ensure that they flow seamlessly to the next and that work more than transfers to the screen on numerous occasions.

It's great, pure and simple.

My favourite bit is the "Revenge" crawl moment, I'll stop there so as not to spoil anything, but it's both breath-taking and (intentionally) laugh-inducing at the same time.

Congrats again, and those who will be receiving it or downloading it in the forthcoming weeks from usenet/bittorrent are in for a superb package that puts many making of docs to shame.

Dawn Of The Dead Ultimate Edition Volume 2-UPDATE Discs 1-4 (Released)
Time
Much obliged bigrob - and thanks for part of the content to make the disc in the first place

Disc 2 will be more along the lines of a "proper" extras disc - full info to follow soon

Disc 3 will be the Cast Reunion filmed in September 2000 at Cinema Wasteland (119 mins)

Disc 4 will be the full mall tour conducted by Ken Foree and the airport tour conducted by David Emge (74 mins)

The last two are particularly fan-centric, the quality isn't 100% - but the content is superb ! These should be with you all quite soon - the last two are certainly not as hard a job as the first one

Dawn Of The Dead Ultimate Edition Volume 2-UPDATE Discs 1-4 (Released)

ringo66 - I'm sure Jaiman could be able to newsgroup it and dark_jedi torrent it - their time and resources allowing.

joltman - yep, effectively you could take the tracks and synch them yourself. We discussed earlier in the thread the fact that just the audio tracks could be put over a slideshow for example so as to free up more disc space, or put into the ROM folder for peeps to do the very same exercise (since both Romero and Savini love to point out just about their entire friends and family in the various scenes !) - but as the project progressed - this was definitely the most effective way since we were dealing with different outputs (NTSC/PAL).

Someone would have to do a direct rip of this disc rather than use the original source material since that track would drop out of synch 4% for every second it plays and also there are 6 seconds cut out of that UK version - so those audio drops have been reinstated into this version and I'm too much of a curmudgeon to do it for a quick fix since I spent many hours doing it this way so you wouldn't have to

The disc was designed for the DVD experience, rather than a simple PC synch up - you'd be more than welcome to get the disc and do the job yourself should you so choose (you are totally right that the Extended Edition would be the same for anyone that has the Ulitmate Edition US version).

There has been a horse-load of love put into this disc - so if you have the means and the bandwidth - you'll be in for a treat; slaved over for the very purpose that you'll be grabbing the tracks for...

I'll write a lot more about the latter track when I've finished the whole disc, but know that it's on there and is a beaut, many thanks to the original donor of the cues, I hope you'll be proud with what I've done with them !

Wow. I'm interested to see how many of these cues were you able to locate. I know the 'needle drop' album released a coupla years ago was missing a substantial portion.

Great stuff.

With a deeply reserved breath I'm pretty sure to have over 90% of the cues represented in this track. I needed some repetition and fillers used as necessary - you'll probably be able to notice where - though a number of omissions were to be found from other sources.

I've left it as a dialogue free track, so 75%+ of the running time is scored, the rest is silent. It seemed to work better that way and makes for an incredibly artistic yet unsettling midnight movie experience, I just wouldn't suggest watching this version first if you've never seen the film before - but I don't think that will be anyone in this thread

It certainly heightens the scares if you haven't seen the film for a while...

Dawn Of The Dead Ultimate Edition Volume 2-UPDATE Discs 1-4 (Released)
Time
OK - so it's been a long time coming - but here's the final details of the first disc of this project...

Dawn Of The Dead Ultimate Edition Volume 2 - Disc 1

Extended Version NTSC 16x9 synched with the following three tracks:

1) The rare 1996 George A Romero/Chris Romero/Tom Savini commentary from the original Elite laserdisc
2) The rarer 1999 Tom Savini/Chris Stravrakis first UK DVD pressing commentary from Bmg Entertainment
3) The brand new and pain-stakingly created first ever "Soundtrack only" track for Dawn of the Dead using the original drop cues

I'll write a lot more about the latter track when I've finished the whole disc, but know that it's on there and is a beaut, many thanks to the original donor of the cues, I hope you'll be proud with what I've done with them !

I've just finished the video and audio and I'm VERY happy with it ! Just the menus and authoring to go - this is a quite a big disc, it will weigh in at about 6GB, but I'll reduce it to a DVD5 unless there is mass uproar ! It's the audio tracks that are the most important things here, not the image - and they will be untouched in the compression stage.

So there we go - would love some cover art for the DVD_ROM, so klokwerk if you still have the means, it would be lovely to have it in the next few days ! Loved the original ideas (pre-Rocky Horror show image !) though both would be great.

This is NEARLY there, but I promise will be worth the wait !

Quick womble question...
Time
Hey folks,

Coming to the end of a project and have one final hurdle/extra to add: an soundtrack only track.

I have never edited in womble using multiple tracks on the audio line before. I have the following:

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1415/piceb5.jpg

For love nor money it won't export - do I have to have no gaps between the clips, there are 52 separate tracks, originally they were mp3, now they are all WAV - does any of this make a difference ?

It's proving very frustrating as it's the last piece of the jigsaw !

Thanks,

mm

ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing
Time
Hey ADM,

Weird anamoly with the above (excellent) guide that has worked for me in the past.

Trying to spin some anamorphic magic and using the above calculations - first virtualdubmod won't allow the NTSC crop setting that is given above, gives an error of:

"Cannot use crop to enlarge or shift a clip" after I save the AVS Script

(and then if I leave the crop figures untouched - it throws up the following: "Couldn't locate decompressor for YV12"

Ignoring the above and processing regardless - TMPGenc then says "can't open or unsupported" with the final avi.

It's the last step and it's becoming frustrating !!

Original source material is NTSC 4:3 352x480

Many thanks if you can shed any light or where I'm going wrong or what seems the stranger issue !

Can't do PAL LD's unfortunately - though surely someone else on this forum can ?

Many thanks for carrying on trucking triffid and keeping the dream alive.

Official Release Thread - Alien Appendix - Updated with #2 info (Released)
Time
Jonno,

That's great - coincidentally I've just sent you an email with an answer to a few of the questions.

The work on CBS Aliens is done, but since we're staying with an Alien flavour I think it would be better to collate some of the more Alien-centric items and put out our first true compilation disc.

The Pepsi ad was from Ash595 originally.

Triffid - let me know how you get on with your contact - I'm sure we'll be able to beat him down a bit or offer something to sweeten the deal.

*** The Official DigitalFreakNYC Release Thread*** (SW, Indy + Others!)
Time
NexPhr3ak0r - no offence dude, but it would take about as much time to mock up CD art from the (excellent) cover art provided than it would to come in and post about it.

Better still (and more constructively) why don't you make CD art for this release and put a link to it in this thread for other people downloading the torrent to use ?
