Audio Drift!
Time
I'm having a problem where my video and audio are in synch in my editing software, but lose synch when I render. I ripped the video and audio from the DVD using DVD Decrypter, then threw them both into Vegas. My project is 24p, as is the VOB I ripped. I've tried rendering to DV, MPEG2, and with separate WAVs--all lose synch, slowly over time. Thanks in advance for the help!

Punisher (1989), Captain America (1990), The Flash (TV)-
All have official releases, not too hard to find.

Nick Fury-
I think this was only broadcast on TV for one night. I'd love to see it.

Generation X-
I have a crappy bootleg of the original broadcast, but it was released on VHS in Britain with extended scenes that were edited for TV. I'd love to see it.

M.A.N.T.I.S.-
My holy grail! Does anyone have this?

Spidey-
As I said, I can do a VHS to DVD for the original. Laserdisc would be best if someone has one. Also, if you're in a PAL nation, I assume your VHS copies would make for a much better DVD than my NTSC.

Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released)

I premiered the film for my friends (also watching the extended cut for the first time myself) and I noticed a few things. Number one is that ABC made the right choice cutting it into two nights, because it's LONG and the pacing is so messed up that it works better as a "mini series." That's why they cut so much for the theater. I'm also considering changing my half-way point "break." Right now it's where the Mariner "sells" Helen for 30 minutes.

While I indescriminately added in all the deleted material, there are a few shots which obviously were tossed in for padding and not designed to be there as part of the director's original vision, and those I may cut. Also, the VHS footage was obviously of lesser quality than the DV, so cuts were noticable (especially with the encore bootleg VHS, as compared with the theatrical VHS). Fortunately, there aren't too many of those shots. I may cut some. The DV stuff, while miles better than VHS, didn't look as crisp as a DVD, due in part to the noisey TV broadcasts and subsequent denoise filters. On a standard def TV, they'd probably be fine, but we were up close to a 56" HDTV.

The Logos, my biggest fear, were hardly noticable. There were logos from Telemundo, Sci-Fi, USA, Bravo, and WGN, as well as no logos on the VHS copies, and I didn't even catch the transitions.

I picked up on a few TV audio edits that I need to restore. If anyone knows the theatrical version very well, I'd love to send out a "Version 1.1" to make sure I got everything back in--the violent shots were easy, but there's no way for me to tell if I'm missing foul language besides memorizing the theatrical version.

I have a particular one in mind:

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i82/thegreathunger/spideythwip.jpg

I’m thinking about doing a transfer of the old 70’s Spider-Man TV movie starring Nicholas Hammond. I thought this movie was great as a kid, and upon recently obtaining a VHS, I can say it’s much more fun for laughs than anything else. I know there are copies on Laserdisc, and also two sequels: Spider-Man Strikes Back (AKA The Deadly Dust) and Spider-Man The Dragon’s Challenge (AKA The Chinese Connection). These were originally episodes of the CBS TV show, recut to be feature-length films which were released theatrically in Europe.

Does anyone have copies of any of these? I’d even be interested to see the TV show, though I don’t have the time to transfer that one myself.

I’m also interested in the made-for-TV Nick Fury and Generation X.

I'll take it: Single-Layer it is!

Well, you could just show clips of the different elements that went into your cut, from worst to best, and then the final product. It'll make people realize how much crap (logos and such) you had to work around.

er.... I'm not sure the logos are work-aroundable. Those may be the one remaining blemish, though I am replacing all animated logos and commercial fadeouts. The content is all there, the picture quality is good, but the logos... may need to just be ignored.

so is it 2 sl dvds or will there be a chance for a dl dvd?

I'd rather do two single-layer, since I don't have a dual-layer burner or player. It's the same download size. Is there any drawback, besides having to get up and change the discs? It's a three-hour movie, so I figure you're going to want an intermission. I'm trying to figure out where to cut it in the middle, so if anyone knows where ABC cut it when they did the original "Two-Night Waterworld Event," please let me know.

Perhaps have a quick restoration clip, showing what the sources looked like, versus the final result (split screen?)

Unfortunately, I doubt they're as different as I had hoped... if we're talking about comparing my caps to my final output. My final output versus the current extended versions on VHS, well, that's a different story!

I have more trailers on the way, but I won't be able to finish the movie in time for the holidays. I'll be screening it for some friends immediately after Christmas, and then it's DVD authoring time. If you have a (short) special features wishlist, feel free to post it, but I don't have time to go out of my way to find anything, so I'll probably just be throwing some trailers on it. Also, nothing big since the movie will take up 2 discs on its own.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm sorry to say I haven't finished the project yet, but here's a teaser to quench your thirst for Waterworld:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt-HfGFaq4g

It features two of my favorite deleted scenes.

I think I've settled on "The Ulysses Cut"

Other potential names:
Dryland Edit
Drifter's Edit
Smoker's Cut
Hydro Addict's Edition
Recycled in the Pit
Follow the Smoke
Everest Edit

I captured a 3-hour Waterworld broadcast on WGN last night. I figured it would be the same 3-hour cut that Bravo and USA aired, but I'm pleasantly surprised! It has a fair amount of footage from the 4-hour Sci-Fi cut mixed in--I haven't begun to scratch the surface, so I don't have all the details yet. The interesting thing is that the framing is slightly zoomed, and panned down significantly, which means it's a totally different telecine from the other cuts. I wonder, with all these extended versions, each with different framing, there must be a 35mm master print somewhere. My guess is they're transfering the full extended version to tape, then cutting it down, not making an extended version on video.

But, once again, I'm late for the Telemundo version (started a half-hour ago).

Not to worry, Jaiman; I have 3 Telemundos, 3 Sci-Fis, and 3 USAs. Hard drive space be damned! I'm working them together with Toot, and the results are encouraging. There is still some noise and there are synch issues I need to work on, but it's looking very good.

What I need most is more copies of the Encore broadcast to average with ReverendBeastly's copy, which has some interlace artifacts and ancient noise reduction/smoothing. Mitch said he had an original VHS, but I haven't been able to get in touch with him. Anybody else have a decent copy?

I'm also going to pick up a theatrical VHS on ebay to help fill in some of the edited violence.
