I actually prefer the DVDs and can't wait for more edits, seriously.

I feel that Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu both died simultaniously. That is why the young Anakin ghost appears at the end of Jedi. He ceased being a Jedi at that moment and fully embrased the Dark Side and his new name, Darth Vader. I think his spirit went in "limbo" at that point, maybe helped by Qui Gon or something. He had little traces of good in him still as Darth Vader, but it wasn't until he saved his son at the end of RotJ that he redeemed himself and his spirit was set free. He had for the most part done no good as an old man, which is why the spirit appeared as it did.

Is 'Behind the Scenes of Star Wars' on DVD? (VideoNow disc)
Time

I just realized that the Wal-Mart “Story of Star Wars” DVD was based on this collection from the VideoNow kids DVD player thingie:

The Story of Star Wars personal video disc

Now it seems discs one and two, “The Story of Anakin Skywalker” and “The Story of Luke Skywalker” are what the walmart bonus Sith DVD is comprised of. But what about disc 3- “Behind the Scenes of Star Wars”? Does anyone know exactly what this is or even have a VideoNow player or have kids that have a videonow player? I wonder if it’s the same as the content on one of the official DVDs? I am almost tempted to buy a VideoNow player just to find out. And yes, I did purchase Episode II on VHS just to get the “Star Wars Connections” bonus feature, which is similar to the Story of Star Warsm which I unfortunatly didn’t buy Ep3 at WalMart so I missed out on.

Very interesting example, because that DID happen. With the Let it Be album. I don't remember the exact details, but yeah they did that. The difference is that the original version is availiable on the same format (CD).

I know we shouldn't forget the classics and they should be available, I'd just rather watch them the new way.

OK, but movies are meant to be FUN! And to a lot of us, the prequels are. My girlfriend only saw them in Lucas' intended order and loved them. Well she's in love with Hayden and calls me Anakin and has me call her Padme sometimes, but that's beside the point. I know he did have some backstory planned, and if wasn't exactly the same as what we saw, so what? He knows this and he enjoys his own movies, so why can't we?

Look, the prequels were already made. We can't change that. Same with the OT. I guess Lucas could have digitally changed Hayden's (and Jake Lloyd's) eye color to be the same as Sebastion Shaw's, but wouldn't that be a lot more work than changing something that's only on screen for two seconds? Now Yoda in TPM NEEDS to be changed. So there's a PT change to accomidate the OT, it does work both ways.

You gotta admit the changes to the OT to fit the PT are all very minor and are only on the screen for no more than 5 minutes tops. (even if you add up all the changes together it won't total more than five minutes (Krayt dragon call, Boba Fett's 3 lines, Emperor scene in ESB/ unmasking/ ghost/ Naboo and Jedi Temple in celebration). Am I missing anything? The other changes had nothing to do with the PT.

What would you have done differently? Obviously since at least 1980 there were plans to someday make 1-3. How would YOUR episodes 1-3 have gone down?

OK, but in all honesty (I posted this in another thread), exactly WHAT was changed ONLY to conform to the prequels? This is all I can come up with:

Boba Fett's voice
Anakin ghost/ eye color/ eyebrows
a couple of minor edits to the ending celebration
(someone else pointed out) the Krayt dragon or whatever call was changed into noise of the thingie Obi rode in Sith

Now, don't say the emperor, because that change should have been made A LONG TIME ago. You know, way back in 1997. I know the dialouge is negligable, but the monkey lady.. no way. I mean it was either this or change Ian in RotJ into the monkey lady. It never should have been two different people, even before the prequels were made.

I challenge someone to find things that were changed besides the four (maybe five) I posted above that were changed because of the prequels. Everything else was changed simply to improve the effects/ original vision, but not because of the prequels. I mean most of the changes were made in 1997 two years before Phantom Menace!

You (and marioxb) would.

So?

Plus, for me, when watching the movies in chronological order, I really can pretend that ANH was released AFTER Sith. And that is only possible with the DVD edition with all of their glorious changes.

Y'know, Adam, we should start our own forums, Star Wars Complete Saga.com or something. I bet there are more of us (prequel/ SE lovers) out there than there are haters. We are just the only two that post on these forums.

Nevermind. I was just kinda trying to be funny. But it really does get confusing trying to figure out which version of a patricular fan made thingie to get. I don't have enough time or HD space to download them all to compare. And I really do like the OOT, just simply prefer the DVD versions and love the prequels to death.

I just really don't understand the hate for the prequels and the SE's/ Super SE's. The originals are cool, I don't hate em. I just like it seeming that they were filmed AFTER Revenge of the Sith. That's the intention. Having the 2004DVDs WITH all of the changes is the ONLY way that is possible.

Think about it. I did when I saw Episode III in the theater (twice by the way, more than I have seen any other SW in the theater, unless you count the 1997 releases, meaning I have seen III-VI exactly twice each in the theaters).

OK. You are a kid born after 1983. Somehow you were living under a rock and never heard of the "internet" or "Star Wars". 1999 rolls around and you watch this cool movie called Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. "Hmm, that was pretty cool." Three years later a sequel comes out. "Even better! I can't wait for part 3!" Then you watch it and love it. "WOW! When are they gonna make a sequel to this one! That was the best one yet! I can't wait to see what happens to those babies and Anakin! What's his name now, um Darth Tater or something? Oh yeah Darth Vader. I bet in 2008 they will probably make an episode IV! That would be awesome!"

Then he's at wal-mart. A box set of episodes IV-VI! "Woah! That was fast! Man I didn't think one more would be made this fast! They made three more and they were all direct to video? That sucks! Oh well, I'll buy it anyway. I gotta see what happens next!!"

Think about it! I bet there is at least ONE person in the world that thinks like this. And with the quality of the DVD releases I can actually believe that they were filmed post-2005. As it should seem.

OK, Anakin came back BREIFLY at the end of RotJ to talk to and save his son. Darth Vader even said a little while before that Anakin had no meaning for him.

And I said many times, I like the original versions and have nothing against them. I just prefer the newer ones because I love having perfect continuity and better effects. When I watch the movies now (in order) I like to pretend that 4, 5, 6 were actually filmed AFTER 1, 2 and 3. With the official DVD's that is easy to do. I think that is the intention. I was born in 1976. The originals were cool back then. It wasn't until I had my eyes opened by the WAY BETTER 1997 special editions and the SWEET DVD versions that the originals became inferior. Just like on the Beauty and the Beast DVD, where they have the workprint version of the film. It's cool to have, but that shouldn't be the version you actually WATCH, other than to compare it or show it to someone that's never seen it that way.

It's not that. I like the original versions, they just don't have to be super duper quality for me. I like the ones that have the isolated score and subtitles in case I ever feel like watching it that way. I just prefer the updated versions because I love the changes (I honestly could care less about Greedo. It doesn't change the Han character at all for me. In fact I never would have noticed if the internet didn't tell me Plus I really, really like seeing Hayden Christsensen at the end of Jedi. It really completes the saga for me, as Anakin and Mace Windu died simulataniously) and I love the prequels. I came to this site mostly for the fan made bonus material stuff. Not because of my love for the "pure" versions. One copy of each thing is just fine for me. One version of each 2004 movie, one version of each 1997 release (need to find these), one version of each theatrical movie, (the latter two not because I prefer them, just to have) and one version of each special/ making of thingie.

Not that’s a bad thing, as the man has never done a single thing I didn’t agree with. This is for all you Vader hatersm um I mean Lucas haters out there. You complain that he keeps updating and changing the Star Wars films. Well, you guys do the same thing, keep re-releasing your projects with better transfers and stuff like that. Yet when Mr. Lucas does it, yall get mad. And there’s like what, 1000 different DVDr versions of the OT? At least there is only ONE official release (so far). And what’s with the Muppet show and various other things on like every collection? C’mon, aint once enough for each special? I suppose the difference is that you guys, unlike Lucas, allow people to CHOOSE. Whatever. The similarities to you people and George Lucas are still uncanny. It like a double standard or something. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Anyway, I’m still sticking with my thing that if you want the OOOOOOOT or whatever the heck we are calling it these days, just get a damn DVD-R of it and be done with it. No need for an official release. I doubt I would buy the original unaltered versions if they were ever released. I’ve already got 'em. (Well as soon as I get the ISO mixes of Empire and Jedi that is) It’s much more fun for me to buy and watch the (to me) superior mega never-ending updated versions. (Though I do think that the 2007/ 3D versions will be the last updates forever, at least on DVD) Anyone care to bet on that?

George Lucas (and all of his changes) rules! I LOVE the prequels. And I am dead serious. At times I like em better than Trilogy 2. (That should be the names- Star Wars Trilogy 1 (1-3) and Trilogy 2 (3-6). Actually Star Wars Saga is better.)

Honestly, what was REALLY changed in the OT only to match with the PT? All I can say is Hayden Christensen and Boba Fett's voice. Nothing else. It wasn't possible to have those two things back when the movies were made, so obviously they had to be added, and IMO the movies as a whole saga (the only way they should ever be watched) are better for it.

Everything else was only changed to better the effects/ restore to his original vision. This would have been done (and was) even if there never were any prequels.

I challenge people to find other examples than the two I listed above that were changed ONLY because the prequel trilogy exists. The Emperor thing I don't count, (maybe the dialouge..?) because it should have been the same dude from RotJ all along.

Does he REALLY want to go there? God, I hope not.... Oh well. Here we go.

How about these changes:

Adding footage from ROTJ into TESB (Vader's shuttle)
Greedo shooting first (COMPLETELY changing Solo's character from an "integrity challenged, shoot first, ask questions later kinda guy that eventually lets' his conscience get the bst of him & does the right thing" into a "Completely honorable, do the right thing, acting in self defense kinda guy"
Boba Fett in ANH - WHY???!!??? What purpose does that serve? If anything, it makes him look like another one of Jabba's flunkies who's been there all along, instead of "the best bounty hunter in the galaxy".
The Wampa in TESB. I always thought that scene was much scarier when you just heard it. Seeing it ruins it for me. Implied violence is ALWAYS more effective than when it's displayed.

And how about the BIGGEST change of all; GL HIMSELF telling us on the Audio Commentaries of the 2004 DVDs that when Leia tells Luke about her mother, that she's talking about her ADOPTED Mother. Ever since 1983, we ALL knew that Leia was talking about (who ended up as) Padme. But GL decided to kill her off in Ep 3, which TOTALLY CONTRADICTS Leia saying, "she died when I was very young".

Are those enough changes for you?

Well, duh! I know what was changed! But I said what was changed ONLY to fit with the prequel trilogy. None of the above qualifies, except the commentary, which I actually didn't listedn to yet and didn't know he said that. I forgot about the celebration. OK, so there were a few minor details added to the celebration because of the PT. Big deal.

Anakin was an OLD MAN when he died, therefore his ghost should be old too AND WITH EYEBROWS

Nope. DARTH VADER was an old man when he died. ANAKIN died at the same time as Mace Windu.

Originally posted by: Adamwankenobi

Actually, there is a place where he would fit extremely well. After Alderaan is destroyed, Obi-Wan feels the disturbance, and sets down. A scene could be added directly before (or directly after) this moment, where Dagobah is once again established, and Yoda senses the destruction just as Obi-Wan does.

Yup. Just like I said when I started this thread. Though it should be a clip of him already on Dagobah, instead of landing there, unlike my original idea.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Original classics untouched bla, bla, bla. But ONLY for comparisions sake if you ask me. Just to see the "workprint" versions as I will from now on refer to them.

I just wish they were filmed in order so everyone can finally shut up. It would have been funny if they were filmed completly out of order. Like Clone Wars, 6, 2, 5, 1, 4, 3. Then people would probably say they were meant to be watched im this order. I know I saw the orginal in '77 when I was a baby, but I was too young to remember that. I remember asking my dad how come it said Episode IV and he really didn't know. I was always hoping that there would be a 1 2 and 3 and I got my wish and I was never disappointed.

That's so backward from a storytelling standpoint I simply don't understand the appeal of it.

Could you sit a Star Wars virgin down and show him the films in chronological order without ruining the dramatic tension of IV, V, and VI? The answer is no. The impact of "I...am your father!" is reduced from a revelation to a "Well, duh!" moment for the audience.

Of course you can! So what if it makes you wsay "duh"? That's the only way my girlfriend ever saw them, and the way I will always recommend to watch them. It was a totally different experience for her. She knew that Darth was Luke and Leia's dad and that L&L were brother and sister. She kept asking me, "So when is Luke gonna find out that's his dad?" or when will they find out they are brother and sister? I told her to just wait and see. So there can still be surprises. YOU know, but you don't know when the characters will know. I think it's a really cool experience to watch 1-2-clone wars-3-4-5-6 in that order. All of the movies are AWESOME in every way.

Yeah, I want the OOT versions on DVD, and you know what? The versions that are out now (unofficial) are good enough. Except it means that a LOT of people won't be smart enough to find a way to watch them on DVDs (you know, those people that don't know how to work a DVD-R or order from ebay, AKA Joe Six-Pack). If I want to watch movies of inferior quality, then I will watch the OOT, just to see how far we have come from back then. They are fine just the way they are. No need to upgrade the picture quality or special effects for the original versions. If I want to see higher quality versions (and matching the cool prequels better to boot) then I will watch the DVD versions. I would almost settle for VHS being the media of choice for the IMO inferior by today's standards, but still good, OOT. Except for the fact that I like the option of scene selection, bonus features and isolated score, plus I don't wanna wear out the tapes. That's it. The quality of the original versions is good enough. For the improved quality/ better effects/ prequel tie-ins/ that is reserved for the updated 2004-2007 versions.

I think that everyone that REALLY REALLY REALLY wants the OOT on DVD already has them, and that should be good enough. It is for me.

I actually prefer the DVDs and can't wait for more edits, seriously.

Please don't tell me you actually did this as a child! You couldn't figure out how the puzzle worked, so you simply made it fit? You see, in a puzzle, the pieces are created with the sole purpose of fitting together. If they don't fit together, then you don't have a puzzle. And you don't take your puzzle of the Golden Gate Bridge and try to combine it with a puzzle with a puzzle of the Statue of Liberty. They aren't meant to fit together, and so they won't unless you deface them. What the prequels should have been was the other half of the puzzle, or, no... a small little corner whose detail you can't quite see. Its clarification isn't necessary, but it would be nice to know what was in that corner. Those are what the prequels should have been. A part that's custom made to fit the existing puzzle. Instead, you have the orignals as the Statue of Liberty, and the prequels as the Golden Gate Bridge, and Lucas tries his damndest to make this implausible situation fit.

There's just no logical standpoint to it.

Well, I was trying to be funny with that puzzle thing and no, I never did that. On the other hand, I should have used this analogy. I bet EVERYONE has done this. Taking the stickers off of the Rubix Cube because you go so frustrated with it and were happy when you could pretend that you got all the colors lined up again.

But I do love every version of Star Wars out there, the newer the better. I can't look at Darth Vader and not see Hayden Christsensen inside the suit, which is a good thing by the way. I can easilly see the movies looking like they were filmed AFTER Sith, which is the way it should appear. Yeah they were filmed before, so what? I think it turned out great the way it did.

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if Jake Lloyd did a cmeo as little Luke somewhere in the TV series? Maybe this is only a question for Adamwankenobi. By the way, when I was little my mom said I looked like Luke Skywalker. I used to have blond hair and it was even in the same style as Jake's in TPM. Yeah, I liked Star Wars as a child, but because it has explosions, fighting, ewoks, lightsabers, and cool toys. That's all. I didn't care about or understand any of the technical aspects. So go ahead and change them and make them better, as good as the prequels, technology speaking.

As a matter of fact, did anyone see the 2004 (or was it 2005?) MTV movie awards post show? Where they had this fake award for this pretend critic that liked EVERY movie? "Wow! I'm watching a MOVIE!! This is great! I have popcorn! Yeah!! Awesome" and he gave like 5 stars to movies like Gigli and stuff? Well, that guy kinda is me. If the movie is entertaining/ has a lot of action/ is funny (any combination) and not totally boring, it gets an A+ in my book. Never had any desire to see Gigli though.

Create a subtitle stream like this? (See pics inside)
Time

Is it possible to make a subtitle stream like this? I have Street Fighter II- The Animated Movie on US DVD and a very bad quality subtitled Japanese VHS. I want to get the Japanese DVD so I can create a hybrid Japanese/ English version. Both the US and Japanese versions ONLY contain the one language version. What they did when they released the US version, every time a location came up on the screen in Japanese, it was covered with a black box with English text, as seen below. (I simulated the below images since I couldn't find a proper Japanese screenshot.)

Is there any subtitle program that would allow me to do something like this, create a subtitle stream with a black box behind it? I want this so I can keep both versions in tact on my new DVD, maybe having the stream automatically selected when English language is selected? There are about 10-20 times this happens in the movie and it is displayed for about 10 seconds.
