I like the added threes a lot. It shows the same shot but 35 years later, this way the entire Saga gets represented in Ascendant.
Indeed. It gives a good vibe to the overall sinister overture of the movie. Adding it would be a nice improvement.
On the topic of Vader’s castle, I recall seeing another thread where someone rotoscoped video using shots of the castle from Rogue One.

I do think those establishing shots greatly improve the sequence—particularly the TIEs flying around the castle. The troopers running out may not be necessary, though I do like extending the sequence as the whole film moves too fast.
Where did we ever land on getting a shot of the castle? Or did we pass on it?
Oh it mostly works very well ! I would definitely like to see the Castle shot with the Ties inserted in Ascendant. The video game footage, not so much though.
By the way, why haven’t you used the 5.1 audio track for volume 2?

Audio editing, however, loses a point and gets a 9/10 for the music cue used during Anakin and Padmé’s first kiss. My wife, who is watching these edits with me and spends more time looking at her phone than the TV, said “oh, that was weird. It was obviously cut short.”
To be fair, the theatrical audio of this scene has a “music joke” which also feels like bad editing 😄
I’m glad you reminded me of that, as I need to let him know about this. As of yet there hasn’t been an update to it.
I have finished updating it and exporting to ac3 640kbps. I’m adjusting the subtitles and I then upload everything on Mega. Should be done by tomorrow.
It looks great! With the excellent “crackled saber” effect, I guess only Vader’s castle remains to be added to get a v2 complete, right? Unless there might be other things which could be improved ?

If so, you can count me as interested at least 😄
I know there are other extended edition projects around, but yours was focused on making it seamless as much as possible, without editing out other stuff (even if I wouldn’t dislike a very light edits points to remove a few things).

I thought a lot about this: I kinda like the “standing by” bits but I don’t really dig the “we believe in you Poe!” and “For Skywalker!” parts 😕 When I watch the edit they struck me as “oh, this sounds fanedited”… besides they are very LOTR oriented and TROS already borrows way too much from LOTR-ROTK in my opinion.
On the small cons, as already stated by other members, I am not a huge fan of the audio additions:
- KoR voices are well done but I prefer them to stay silence (I actually often prefer less dialogues in Star Wars 😃)
- the same goes with “for Skywalker !” added bit (even if I’m more ok with this one)
- Duel of the Fates cue is very hard to notice: I wouldn’t mind it being slightly louder if there was a V2 of the edit one day
I would then welcome an alternate audio track so I could chose if I want talkative or silent KoR. It’s nice to provide both tracks Hal 😉
I am thinking about creating an alternate track to add the complete Palpatine message. Don’t know yet if I will follow through the idea but here is a first mock up using the front channels (levels are not much corrected, it’s only a POC):

I followed through the idea and I am almost finished. Hal kindly provided me with the uncompressed tracks to work with, using the tracks without KoR voices, adding two alterations:
I have implemented Palpatine full broadcast just after the opening crawl. I must say, it would work even better with the original crawl stating “The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR PALPATINE.”, but it also works well in the context of this new crawl;
Since I am not always a huge fan of created sound content on fanedits, I have reinstalled the “civil fleet arrival” audio from the theatrical version. It was a very well done addition guys, it’s just I prefer to keep the pure musical original version.
I was thinking about using Duel of the fate cue in a more obvious way, but as I am not familiar with the movie enough, I am not sure where to implement it in a seamless way. If anyone has a idea I could play with, tell me.
I have adjusted Burbin subtitles in 3 languages to go along with this alternate audio track 2. I will make a final check and begin to import a 640kbps output by today or tomorrow. I will probably share it to anyone interested through a MEGA link.

Just jumping in to praise your hard work on this one: I won’t say that I now like TROS, but it’s a step over the theatrical cut quality wise thanks to all the little changes. More importantly, they mostly blend so well that I never thought I was watching a fanedit. Great work and thanks to everyone one involved, really.

The Jedi Force Ghost is the climax of this edit alterations: so epic 😄 Even if I understand the reasons not to include him, I wouldn’t have minded Anakin to be along Leia, Luke and Ben during the last shots.

Again guys, very good work. The ST is overall quite improved by these edits. Whether we like PT or ST it doesn’t matter: we care about SW and we all always wish the movies to be as good as they could. Something these edits achieve to do.
