TFA: I get that Starlight’s is a bit like Hal’s version but with more edits and little things removed? Maybe I’ll check this version to see how it plays then.

I’m not sure that’s an accurate description: Starlight doesn’t really cut out much more than Restructured did. Starlight is more of a revamped version, changing the presentation of the movie to make it feel less like the OT and more like the other two sequels. I’d highly recommend watching it, it’s a really interesting experience.

Oki thanks, then I definitely will start with Starlight, then Legendary, and finally Ascendant.

I know this edit will become my go-to version of the movie, along with this site’s other collaborative sequel edits (TFA Starlight, TLJ Rekindled).

I was in fact wondering if I wouldn’t make a post Christmas ST marathon, and was thinking about what fan edits are around to get a complete set of higher quality than the theatrical cuts:

TFA: I get that Starlight’s is a bit like Hal’s version but with more edits and little things removed? Maybe I’ll check this version to see how it plays then.

TLJ: I actually like the theatrical cut so I think I’ll stick to Hal’s conservative edit which only removes most of the bad little stuff without changing it too drastically.

TROS: let’s roll v2 😃

Sounds great Hal, looking forward to watching it (after Chistmas then ahah)

Since i’m mentioning “sound”, could you confirm you have uncompressed outputs without the added Knights of Ren voices as well as without the “galaxy celebration” added million voices ? I would probably try to tackle the alternate audio I did for v1 with Palpatine message in the overture for v2.

It would not surprise me if Luke at the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian was actually a clone , sent by Thrawn to kidnap Grogu . It would be a perfect Thrawn thing to do . Would also go a long way for me in explaining why something looked " off’ about Luke’s appearance . Maybe the wonky CGI was intentional and the hiring of that fan vfx artist is a smoke screen ?

Oh why not. Do you also think that in Rogue One we saw Taarkin and Leeia 😄

The dialogue in my clip has been altered from the version Sherlock posted; I mixed together the phrase “am a Jedi” from a few different sources, but in blending the phonemes to get the word “am”, there’s a slight hum from the crossfade which is unavoidable (it’s simply a side-effect of how blending separate pieces of audio works). I hoped the lightsaber hum would be enough to render it unnoticeable.

Here it is without the lightsaber.

This is perfect to my ears.

To me as well; impressive work. Seems the project is near to completion now, according to what is left to be needed 😃

Why Rogue One doesn't work well as a prequel to Star Wars

Vader - “Don’t act so surprised, Your Highness. You weren’t on any mercy mission this time. Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by rebel spies. I want to know what happened to the plans they sent you.”

Yeah and these lines feel so out of place when you see the end of RO…

I would also add all the Empire guys chatting about te Rebels being harmless or dangerous, whereas they basically forced Tarkin to destroy Hawai planet with all imperial archives on it just a few days ago… (while taking down star destroyers).

(so much for “spys” right)

I was being a bit ironic, however I feel like too much rebranding to make things shine gets out of topic at some point, and I don’t trust Robriguez and its digital and lazy filmmaking to pull anything interesting out of this material (not a fan as well of the possible “wokism” spreading everywhere and especially on the Star Wars universe…). I wish Joe Johnston had been involved 😕

I totally agree here about how poorly RO does set up ANH events. I like the idea that sustains RO to get a deeper look into the Empire, I’m less a fan of seeing grey areas into the Rebels (because in the fantasy context of the OT, this doesn’t cope with very well).

So, I would say about RO:

  • on a storytelling perspective, it’s a very bad prequel, like AOTC bad (yeah, that bad);
  • on a vibe perspective, it gets it right most of the time, especially on the Empire side;
  • on the visual perspective, it elegandly connects the PT to the OT, using modern filmmaking and a sense of grandeur that mesh very well with ANH.

I can enjoy RO as a fun ride (not all of it, 'cause the first half is very boring and even the action packed second half has many issues, but still there are a few very good moments), but definitely not as a good prequel. The PT are very imperfect prequels as well, however they are set far enough before ANH to let my brain connect thibgs in a clearner way. Something that RO with its “five minutes before ANH” ending doesn’t allow to do, unfortunately…

That’s being said, among the 5 Disney Star Wars, I would rank it second (TLJ > RO > Solo > TROS > TFA).

No really hyped by Robert Rodriguez, who is not by my book (!) a good filmamaker, even though I like a few of his flicks (mostly due to the people he was working with, being Tarantino or Cameron). So on this side I know it won’t be very convincing; however, I certainly hope this is gonna be a mean and badass Boba, not the sort of reedemed version of Mando. Let’s it be fun !

This movie bro. (Or trilogy to be honest, for me personally.)

Me too, however the work achieved by the OT.com community does improve every layer of the ST quite a bit, around the TLJ pivot point. I will never watch TROS theatrical cut again, but Ascendant v2 is an edit I will definitely watch and most probably enjoy.

Speaking of Palpatine clones, I suggest changing them so they all look different from each other but in their own unique, mutilated ways

Alien 4 vibe 😄

I don’t mind the Palpy clones, I just don’t really get why he would be in such a bad shape and I don’t read that much from a 3 seconds shot. I would have been in favor to keep Snoke to be a clone, while TROS’s Palpy would (still) be a fucked up resurrected ROTJ’s Palpy.

I can always use Google Translate, but can anyone translate the following into French, Spanish, Portugues, Spanish, Italian, and/or Dutch?

“I am a highly trained Resistance spy.”

“Then why are you… What?”

“Qui es-tu ?”

“Je suis un espion hautement qualifié de la Résistance.”

“Alors pourquoi es-tu… Quoi ?”

Here’s the Kylo Deleted Scene integrated into my edit in what I’m hoping is a final form:

I still dislike the meta humor about the trash compactor, but this scene inclusion does provide an ambiance which is quite beautiful. Very well done, really. Isn’t it the music also used on TLJ Luke’s moment deleted scene?
