I wonder if it might be the worst thing that ever happened in Star Wars canon.

The Chuck Wendig books exist.

So in movie/tv media then.

Nope, that’s still AOTC, the Ewok movies, BOBF, or TROS, depending on how a person is feeling that day.

Don’t forget the Holiday Special.

Not canon. Guys try to read properly what’s written…

This show was a genuine trainwreck. I agree with Adywan, this should have started with Obi-Wan saving Luke. Maybe while the rescue is happening or just after, he runs into that Jedi from the beginning of the show and that’s how he gets wrapped up in everything. Leia should not have been involved at all in any of this.

Or maybe it could have been with anything else but the two Skywalker kids that we already see in the next 6 movies of the Saga 👀

Damn this thing costs 150 millions. Where did the money go ? 😬

Vader to Palpy « we are looking for him: he won’t escape us! »

Literally the next scene : « hello there Bail: here is lil Leia. In plain sight. I guess the Empire who seems to know about our close connection is not monitoring this planet of yours. So lil Leia next time we meet just pretend you don’t know me, to protect yourself, even in the context of sending messages for help once you’ve been compromised enough, such as being on the battlefield to get some damn plans. Also you can call your son Ben after me, because now we have a strong connection to explain that but just keep it for the ST, never mention this during the OT, to protect yourself ok ?
Well, seems I need to go. I feel stronger than ever, I could destroy the empire by myself but I’ll just go back hiding. Next time I see that little Darth bitch I’ll just let myself die even though I totally own his ass twice in 10 years. The fucker can’t even stab anyone properly. He’s only good at killing kids, lol. Oh I’m calling him Darth out of the blue because people wanted Adywan to remove that in ANH:R, silly them!
So, after Bail failing to protect you and me failing to protect Luke, everything is back on ANH track… somehow. So lucky than Reva didn’t want to kill the kid… even though it’s not clear why they wanted to kill him. I’m glad that the very passive Beru seems to be the one running the Lars farm. She’s so brave and badass. Not at all out of character. Btw Bail, stop sending messages with sensitive info from now on: might be a bit dangerous I think. We all seem very dumb now and we have been fucking both PT and OT in a cheap 6 episodes show. It’s ok, fans will love it: they always do. I don’t know why either so let’s keep doing dumb stuff they’ll keep buying it, lol.

See you around kid in season 2 and may Wade be with you! »

They really should have got rid of all the useless fluff from the other episodes and developed this finale more into 2 eps. It felt rushed. Sadly they strengthened the bond between Ben & Leia which makes her reaction to his death in ANH even more cold. But this ep did seem to be a bit of a box ticker, which was a shame.

I did think Obi-Wan telling Leia their connection must be kept a secret, to protect both of them, was a good bypass of the hologram message from Leia in the OT.

It’s not. All the same problems are still there. By the time she’s contacting him, if the message is intercepted then both of their covers are blown anyway, so it doesn’t matter if she uses weird cagey language to suggest they don’t know each other.

Totally. It seems the screenwriters had anticipated all the complains about continuity and felt really smart about resolving it all in the last minutes. Except they don’t solve a mess by making it dumber. I guess no one knows how to write at Lucasfilms.

Well, it was very bad. The entire show is very bad. Trying to shoehorn everything (popular memes included) in the last few minutes is just insulting.

So to sum up:

  • not a compelling story
  • absence of any sense of typical Star Wars grandeur
  • generic music
  • bad acting
  • awful storytelling (nothing makes sense)
  • lackluster special effets
  • bland sets
  • damaged continuity
  • etc.

I wonder if it might be the worst thing that ever happened in Star Wars canon.

From now on I’ll just stick to Lucas canon with a few things (« Rebels » season 1&2) included. The rest can go to the trash.

Super excited about a fan edit for this show. There is a ton of good in the series, but also a ton of bad around the fringes that could/ should be trimmed away.

My guess is that the good stuff could actually better work as a « Godfather part 2 » cut of the OT.
But I still can be surprised by the talented fan editors around here to cook up a good movie length cut of the show.

How come is she still alive btw ? I haven’t watched yet the finale but I truly wonder how it is possible to shoot a scene of Vader calmly stabbing her and leaving the scene quietly to just leave his prey alive. Is there something explaining that or just fans assuming stuff? (Because it appears SW fans are less lazy than SW writers and try to make sense of everything)

They should just stop making Star Wars stuff, there’s enough already

Or they could come up with new ideas.

Even Disney new ideas are now being recycled like crazy (Baby Yoda / Lil Leia / Omega, or Rey the scavanger / Ben the hobo butcher, Reva / Finn even share lots of similar ideas). They even have already did TWICE the Imperial redhead guy switching side… (never trust gingers, remember Cartman warned us about them 😄).

Maybe they could just do less but better, quality vs quantity. But when I read some comments here, I have the feeling casual fans just want to be plugged to neverending Star Wars feed with a mind elastic enough to accept basically anything (it still is incredibly laughable to consider the number of comments defending a rematch set between Mustafar and the Death Star events as “adding more depth and layers”… well, we’ve seen the quality of those layers, right…).

I’m hoping for a season 2, this time with Luke, but no planet hopping this time. Maybe Luke is in trouble with Jabba the Hutt or owes him money. You could have Luke flying his T-16 through Beggars Canyon racing others, but he loses and owes Jabba. Kenobi might have to kill a few bounty hunters along the way.

People just never learn of their mistakes. Never.

Not sure how I missed all these papers by film crit hulk but I have read all of them now. He accurately explains the core issues of this show. I especially like when he mentions that SW is always explained by his fans to justify any plot hole. It reminds me A LOT of all these « you will see with episode 4 why Vader let Ben go at the end of episode 3 » which got quickly old one week later. At some point it’s better to accept something is just not well written…

He clearly looks older but not that off; besides it works in the context of the series since this flashback is not supposed to be edited with original 2002 footage. At least it wasn’t distracting as CGI Luke face is. For once it was a good artistic choice on this show. Such as the very nice sequence of Vader pulling the ship. I wish the entire show was this quality…

There’s no reason why he can’t call him Darth.

Because Darth is not his name and he’s never called him Darth before or since and no other Sith is addressed as just Darth. That’s 3 reasons.

Let Ben have his moment of fun mockingly calling his forner padawan with a Sith title. It’s in line with Ben character. Like Luke calling the Emperor “your Highness”: it’s a bit sarcastic.

Yeah just watch it. It’s not even too long to sit down in front of: 6 episodes for a total of around 4 hours of show.

About PT era flashbacks it’s surprising how well they blend with Lucas vision. PT has recently become as respected as the OT when it comes to continue merging both eras as one. Something that went progressively since Rebels S01 to now.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

Weird episode on many instances such as giving lil Leia some stuff to do (why are they trying to make her a lil Anakin) and creating a very circonvoluted plot around Reva (twist no one could see coming because it’s out of the blue so it feels quite off). Not to mention Bail sending messages with classified info to Ben who loses it (come on Ben, stop drinking booze !).

However, I like the pre AOTC flashback (something which could work within the movie if the actors were not looking a bit older) and most of the Vader scenes. On a production value perspective only the PT scenes look good (because they have no choice but to match good looking movies perhaps ?) whereas the « nowadays » stuff is really, really problematic and feels like a Star Trek TNG set… i won’t comment the music or the cinematography, aligned with the cheap looking I just mentioned.

It’s getting better but still not convince by how it seems to be forced to land in ANH shoes after playing that much with continuity (oh so Vader says he was still the learner because… he made the same mistake he did during a PT-era flashback… i mean that is for audience only and not intra diegetic right ?).

I thought this was an interesting take:

every episode mirrors an Episode of the Skywalker saga (I-VI)
https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsKenobi/comments/vacere/fan_theory_every_episode_mirrors_an_episode_of/

It’s been quite obvious so far; some fans are getting nuts about these “insane parallels” but I just find it to be poor storytelling.

Mark Hamill looks fantastic at age 70. He really should get his own Luke show, not deepfake. video game Luke leaves me cold but Mark in the behind the scenes makes me a fan again.

Also agreed. They made a show about Cassian Andor who is already dead, I don’t see a reason to not do a show or even a movie about Luke. They could even put Hayden in it… And even Billy Dee Williams, and make an adaptation about that book, perhaps. I don’t know. Just make justice to Mark Hamill, he and the fans deserve it.

The « fans » already have the OT about Luke 👀
What about new things ? You know, new stories, new characters…
