Obi-Wan Kenobi Redux Ideas Thread

You could remove most of episode 2 and 3 and have the kidnappers take Leia straight to the Spanish Inquisition. Cut the Vader vs Kenobi bit because the suit doesn’t fit and it looks like a fan film. Cut a lot of the in fighting with the Spanish Inquisition. I know the Empire like pitting the military against each other but these guys answer to a very difficult boss and it gets repetitive.

At some point you could even consider removing the entire show 😂

Funny how some fans continue to hang their hopes on a Star Wars savior, before release it was Deborah Chow, now Andrew Stanton in the final hour is going to save it. I do think he’s a good writer and writers are more of what’s needed for the franchise, but at the same time…fool me once.

It’s true : in the end like Marvel stuff it’s decided by a corporation.

I never had any hopes about Chow though since I couldn’t see anything specific about what she did before.

People keep asking why Vader was mad at Reva for letting Kenobi escape even tho he let him escape. This is because Vader knew Kenobi would come for Leia, but after they escaped he was concerned he was gone for good.

I was ready to accept circonvoluted explanations to address any potential continuity issues (and every prequel material always has these kind of issues: PT, Rebels, Rogue One…) but even WITHIN its own logic the show is flawed. I’m expecting some lame last minute patch to put everything back on starting blocks for ANH, à la C3PO memory wipe. Which is not a compliment in my book.

Let’s see how this mess lands. I have no confidence it’s gonna land well so Andrew please prove me wrong !

Tiny nit-pick; The tracking device has been done. Come up with another way.

Done to death, I agree, but I liked the twist of the tracking device being Leia’s droid. That’s actually pretty cruel. It seems like Lola has been her constant companion for years.

I agree. I assumed it was somehow on the ship. To put it where she’ll take it to her home in the one device she trusts completely, very cruel.

It’s only a tracking device not a time bomb guys : so much for cruelty 😃

I think this is their way to tie into the OT a little; maybe that’s why Leia is so certain that “they let us go” in ANH; she’s seen it happen before.

So OT characters aren’t really smart: they just react or take decisions in regards of things they have already seen before…

It’s terrible how damaging this show is for the OT 😕

It’s on par with AOTC dumb scene with the sphere training stuff (so dumb that it made its way into Mando and TROS…)

[adywan said:] Owen is angry at Obi-Wan because of how close Vader came to learning he had offspring and painting a target on Luke’s back.

  • “Luke’s just not a farmer, Owen…he has too much of his father in him.”
  • “Well that’s ok, at least he’s has nothing in him from that crazy inquisitor bitch who threatened to kill all of us. That’s who I’m afraid of…”

The sheer incompetence of the bad guys in this is really baffling.

It’s indeed very embarrassing. The security lead easily fooled and the other officier getting beaten up… Knowing Kennedy I can’t help noticing that the scheme is always the same: a lady helping or beating up a dude. Too bad I’d like a lady v lady fight Stephen Sommers style.

RIP, Wade, though. We barely knew him but it was delivered as if we were really supposed to care.

Come on it’s Wade ! WADE ! He meant so much to… wait, when was he introduced in the story again ?

Well, Ep4 feels very tired with all this recycling of SW tropes. So, it was not very interesting to follow. It lacks suspense, excitement, wonder… nothing feels new or earned. It’s even becoming quite repetitive, as if it was the “Leia rescue of the week” episode. It still doesn’t look very good: I sure like the sets but the way it’s shot is weak. Adding people sitting sad is also not what I expect from a director known for “character development”. It’s such a lazy work, so as is the easy and useless Ben/Vader bacta tank parallel (I mean: they both are in a bacta tank, so… what ? The guys were brothers and that’s the only stuff you can come up with, a batca tank…). It feels like JJ Abrams movies but without the energy and the occasional good ideas. Quite sad to watch.

So yep, it’s watchable but doesn’t have heart or soul to remember a single thing about it where I thought “oh, this is so well done!”.

Andrew Stanton wrote the last 2 ones, so at least there might be some good writting in this series after all. Unless Leia gets abducted once again to be rescued once again… oh no wait, this is what already happens in ANH!

  • With 3 episodes left, it’s very unlikely this will be the last time Vader & Ben faceoff. The last time they meet in this show, Ben will have regained his old confidence & skill (probably due to a visit from Qui-Gon), and he will be the master in this duel.

Sounds probable yeah and given what we have seen so far in reflection of Yoda’s ROTS assignment it could add up.

About the Grand Inquisitor maybe it has never been the one from Rebels and that this one is appointed off screen between tv series or at the ending of this one so continuity with Rebels could be secured.

The visual qualities of RO are not about having a huge epic battle : it’s how to shoot everything with a sense of wonder which is what made SW so special. Comparing both approaches of a same idea (the Vader castle scene) really is cruel for the tv show. It’s nice to have little moments such as Ben and Leia wandering in the desert, granted. We had the same thing back in 1977 and it looked more interesting. SW is spectacular by essence. We are mostly missing that with this show, and most spectacular attempts kinda fail (Reva going wannabe Smith in Blade runner city for example).

Also let’s keep in mind that ANH doesn’t look cheap and never was a low budget production.

The rumours of a season 2, or some other kind of Kenobi story be it a movie or a spiritual sequel in any way, have me very worried. Surely they can’t involve Vader or have Obi-wan leave Tatooine again, once was already pushing it. And it also means a return to all the people asking for Maul to appear, even for Rebels to be de-canonised.

I hope not because, unlike the Ben show, Rebels was able to tell its own story while keeping the greater one in background, making cameos even better. Ben v. Maul is one of these moments.

I think a good comparison is the way the Vader/Krennic scene looks in Rogue One to the scene of Vader speaking to the hologram of Reva in his castle

That’s so true : I have issues with RO on a storytelling and pacing perspectives, but it’s the best looking SW Disney production by far. It looks glorious and is very well shot. Deb Chow is not as talented as Gareth.

To be honest, if that’s the case he’s not showing good signs at the moment of having any capabilities of training the ‘chosen one’!

Ben, this broken old man, who never takes any decision (he’s being passive all the time), who smells bad (dixit Jawa), who runs away from helping a fellow Jedi or civilians being massacred, who needs help of a 10 yo to get away from a tricky situation, etc.

I don’t buy any second this character arc. He’s so weak and uninteresting. Buzzwords all over social medias to defend this (« payoff », « it must be EARNED », « character journey ») is hilarious.

So far there is enough good material to get a sort of decent 20 minutes episode.

the pacing is pretty normal series pacing. So I don’t know why you are expecting movie pacing in an extended series. If they wanted movie pacing they would have made a movie. Making a 6 part series gives more time to explore more while telling the same story. It seems some of us like that and some don’t.

I can’t say the music is outstanding, but it also does not interfere. Good incidental music sits in the background and is only noticeable when called for.

I can totally get why one would enjoy a lot this show, but at some point I cannot accept that the obvious flaws are being excused as “it’s a tv show”, “good incidental music”, etc. TCW has awesome soundtracks, so being a tv show is not an excuse. It’s fracking Star Wars, and we should accept “tv level production” for a Vader v Ben rematch… It’s madness.

I just have a strong feeling that Kenobi wipes Leia’s memory because she finds out something. Maybe she learns her father is the man in that horrible black mask. It might be too traumatic for her, so he removes those memories of them together and her learning the truth.

Remember in Return of the Jedi, when Leia says to Luke, “I know, somehow I’ve always known.” She knew Luke was her brother and Vader was her father, but Kenobi removes it from her memory. When Luke reveals to her they are brother and sister, some of those memories return to her.

I also think he tells young Leia that if she ever needs him again, she can find him in the Jundland Wastes on Tatooine. Maybe R2-D2 is there when he says it, that way he knows exactly where to go on that big planet.

You found theories to make the show even worse…
