What were your original expectations for the PT?
Time
My original expectations were that we'd see, over the course of 3 movies, how Anakin went from a regular person to the greatest evil the galaxy had ever known. I honestly didn't expect much else. I didn't know we'd see him as a kid and not starting straight as a Jedi. When Qui-Gon asked "Who was his father?" I thought "oh, awesome, icing on the cake". And then Shmi's response came and I thought "huh, wth?" I also expected to see more Jedi throughout the PT, not just in AOTC and ROTS.

One thing I agree with a lot of people here on is that Anakin should've been more evil and definitely dark side in AOTC. His sudden switch in ROTS was only made better by ADM's fanedit. In fact, the original story had a much better switch point (where Palpatine reveals himself to Anakin), but George said he changed it because it was to soon. No, actually, it was the perfect spot. But anyway.

I think I expected a lot of things to be cleared up. Things like "There's something familiar about this place", "I must obey him", "And he was a good friend". After AOTC came out, a friend of mine said "WTH? They were never friends so what's up with the line in ANH?" This is plain to anyone that watches them in the order of release. Even in the comics, Obi-Wan was constantly on Anakin's case. That, to me, is not much of a friend. I was also hoping for a better explanation of why 3PO didn't remember Tattooine even though as ROTS got closer it became more apparent that a memory wipe was in store for him.

What I never expected was that as the PT moved along, the Star Wars galaxy would become smaller and smaller, to the point where Yoda and Chewbacca are now friends. Was that really necessary? How about instead of blowing the screen time and that one little scene, we show Yoda go to Dagobah and maybe explain why he went to Dagobah. Nah, can't do that.

Oh well, now I just pretend they don't exist.

I thought they were painted, not just covered? That would make it much more difficult to take the covering.

Six-Movie Star Wars Marathon at Celebration IV
Time

I think they have shot themselves in the foot judging by how many people are bitching about the location. I would LOVE to get a look at their pre-registrations compared to CII and CIII in Indy. (And by the way, I am not an Indy homer, I live in Nebraska. And I have been to LA a few times and can say that I think it is a HORRIBLE location for this event just on atmosphere alone.) Indy was awesome, as was Denver (though admittedly a little small for the event).

Celebration 1 was not centrally located, not by any means. Granted Indy was more centrally located (by population, not by geography) it was still out of reach for most people on the west coast.

How is LA a more horrible location than Indy? Indy was small. For C2, someone had the brilliant idea that they wouldn't need the whole convention center (half was taken up by some marathon). For C3, even with the whole convention center, it was still nuts, with lines everywhere. From what I heard (I volunteered, so I didn't have to experience any of this) it was WORSE at C3 than it was at C2, just to get in the door, nevermind getting into the store.

As for the atmosphere in LA, what's wrong with it? Universal Studios is fairly close by, as is Disneyland and Knott's. A lot of people are flying in for the whole week just so they can go to the theme parks while they're in town. All Indy had was a downtown district and some movie theaters. As far as I know, no one went to the baseball stadium to see any games (assuming there were any games while it was going on).

Denver was not only small, but it was almost entirely outdoors, which ruined the experience for a lot of fans and a lot of dealers. It rained for 2.5 days! C1 was 3 days long! Standing out in the cold rain, trying to keep dry was anything but awesome. Yeah, it was cool to see that many star wars fans in one spot, but other than that, it was probably the worst experience I've ever had at a convention. It took them 3 days to realize they needed separate lines for all the celebs that were appearing in each tent. About the only thing, as far as I remember, that they did right was the store. I don't remember there being a long line and I know I didn't get up at the butt crack of dawn to get there.

The Celebrations, IMHO, have been nothing but successive failures. Sure, each one gets more and more fans, but each one seems to have worse crowd problems than the last with no one doing anything to help it. At C2, they fixed the outdoor problem (it was indoors). At C3, they claimed that having the whole center would fix the crowd problem. Oopsy, that didn't work, mostly because the crowd problem comes from the store. At C4, the store will be open 24/7, which will hopefully alleviate the crowds. I don't plan on going for more than 1 day though, so it doesn't really matter.

It's kind of funny. I had been very vocal about getting Celebration in LA and now I'm only going for maybe 1 day (I want all days at C1-3). Of course, if it didn't cost so blasted much to go, I'd get a ticket for all days and plan on going. As it is, I've been really put off by the cost alone.

Well, enough ranting from me. I just get tired of hearing how LA sucks and it should stay in Indy (which, even with the expansion, was not big enough). I'm willing to bet just as many people bitched about Indy for C1 and C2 as are bitching about it being in LA. People came from all over the world to go to Indy, they'll do the same to go to LA.

They seem to be doing that a lot. If you've had a chance to read the news items on TFN, a few people have noticed that the mailboxes look like R2 one day, only to be replaced with regular ones the next. Maybe they're moving them around?

Doesn't Comcast still use GigaNews for their feed? They limit you to 1 gig per month, so you may find yourself hitting your limit pretty fast. If you want a cheap news server, check out AstraWeb. They have pretty good retention (at least 30 days) and either a flat fee per month for unlimited or you can pay for a certain amount and use it until it's gone.

Star Wars: Classic Edition 2.0 NEW from Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
I just had a chance to start watching this myself this past weekend. Even though I haven't finished watching it yet (taking care of a newborn and all), I'd have to echo andy's review. Anytime there's to much black on the screen, it looks like shiat. Brighter scenes seem to look ok, but I am by no means a videophile. I have a 50" HDTV, so when scenes look really bad, I notice. Minor stuff I don't notice so much (I'm about 15' from the screen).

Personally, I think I'd attribute most of this to the GOUT. I think OCP tried to salvage something that, IMO, isn't salvageable. Some scenes look fantastic and it's probably because they're from the 2004 DVDs. But other scenes look downright nasty.

One thing that I love about this disc is the sound though. I don't know what other sets have had this mix, but I'm 99% positive that I've never heard that voice from Beru's mouth. When she started to speak, I stared straight at the screen in disbelief. Does anyone know if this mix was ever released on VHS or Laserdisc (I only have the Definitive Collection set)? I also honestly haven't watched all the VHS releases I have, so I may have it and just not know it.

I'm not sure. I have two copies of this. One has that file and the other doesn't. I suspect that I burned one as a DVD-ROM and just manually created the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. The other I probably just burned and dealt with the error. Both copies seem to run in my DVD player (Cyberhome). I use Nero to burn if that helps any.

I don't know what else to say. This came up a while back and I think the consensus was that the file wasn't really needed anyway. You could try burning a DVD without it and see what happens. SL DVDs are really cheap, so going through 2 or 3 isn't that big of a deal.

ROTS Easter Egg - I Am Highly Frightened
Time
It was and I wasn't trying to draw a response. I was simply echoing the sentiment.

I would have thought the dancing Yoda thing was something someone did either on a weekend or during their lunch break. Not something that took a month (or more) to complete. I cannot imagine putting that much effort into 3 mins worth of footage just to show off a dance class (since it wasn't originally going on the DVD).

How about instead of showing us the dancing Yoda, show us the process that a 3 minute scene goes through in it's creation? I haven't watched all the extras on the ROTS DVD, so maybe they did include something like that. I know the Ice Age DVDs have a behind the scenes look where you can change the camera angle and see the scene at each step of the process.

Say what?!

EDIT: I can't believe that many people took that much time to create dancing Yoda. It's what, 3 mins long? To echo what some others have said, couldn't they have spent that time restoring footage from the OOT that hadn't been used? That's something that I think far more fans want than a stupid dancing Yoda (yeah, it's kind of funny once, but it has no repeat value).

Six-Movie Star Wars Marathon at Celebration IV
Time
After reading the news item, I have only two words: Trilogy Tuesday. In case you don't know, Trilogy Tuesday was the day that the LOTR trilogy was played back to back in select theaters around the country. FOTR and TTT had their extended editions played, followed precisely at midnight by ROTK. Of course, that was the advantage of being at Trilogy Tuesday. Not only did we get to see all 3 movies back to back, but we got to see ROTK first. Star Wars fans were practically begging for something like this back when ROTK came out. It looks like it's finally being done, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Personally it was tough sitting through 3 movies back to back (especially considering that the theatrical release of ROTK was over 3 hours long). I can't imagine sitting through 3 movies just to see the Star Wars Trilogy. I really hope Celebration isn't going to start immediately after this screening. Anyone that goes to this is going to be 1) exhausted from sitting in the same spot for 12+ hours and 2) stinky. They're going to need a shower and some sleep.

I think it would be fun and cool if this was done in a few select cities around the whole country, but this is just to limited. And I wouldn't exactly call it a "free" screening. Since you have to be registered for CIV, your admission to Celebration covers part of the cost.

I think I've become far to cynical when it comes to anything Star Wars these days. I would've been totally excited at just the idea of this a couple of years ago (before the GOUT was announced). Now, it's no more than "meh".

This nails it. Why should I go to CIV to watch all 6 films when I can watch them all anytime at home? Sure, they'll be on a large screen. But you can bet that it won't always be in a quiet room. Someone's cell phone will ring and they'll probably answer it, disturbing the environment for everyone. People will be coming and going (I doubt they'll close the room during showings) which will let light spill into the room every now and then.

In essence, CIV better have a lot more than that if they expect people to come. I probably wouldn't waste my time in that room anyway. That's 12 or so hours that you could be seeing the rest of the convention.

Ah, so that's why we have to wait until March 28th to find out why these post boxes are being repainted.

As for the collectability, since it's a federal offense to steal the mail, that's probably why the post office doesn't seem to be putting any security into locking these things down. I'm still willing to bet that a few will show up on ebay and the mail will just be delivered to the post office as normal.

You're just now doing a company wide upgrade to XP? How many computers are we talking about here? If it weren't for the fact that 90% of the applications at my job won't run on Vista, the two machines we just ordered would've had it. As it is, we have to upgrade our anti-virus, contact management, and I have to tweak the login scripts before we can go Vista. Not that I want to go Vista, but it's really just a matter of time before we're unable to get XP.

By the way Jay, I have to reboot the Mac here at work everytime it gets a critical update from Apple too, so it's really not that different from XP. Of course, XP is about 5 years old now, so I'd expect any installation that doesn't have SP2 slipstreamed into it to have far more updates than one that does.

While it may be disappointing for us, some of us fans who have tried quietly to get their own projects done, or watched other talented people do so on these boards, realise that these things can take an unbelievable amount of time and energy. To quote Gary Oldman in Leon, it also "does tend to get a little f****** boring."

It is sensible and prudent for Zigfried to focus on college as frankly that is far more important in the long run.

Anyway thanks for the great work so far - one of the best lines in the movie done!

I don't think anybody thinks college should take a back seat to this project. However, if you've followed ZigFried's threads, you'd know that he gets bored very quickly (from a few weeks to a few days). Sometimes he changes his mind depending on the time of day. That's also why other members of these boards have told him that it's probably not a good idea to come on here and tell everyone he's dropping the project only to come back a few hours later, when he's in the mood again, and tell everyone it's back on. Like they said, if you get bored with it, put it aside for a few days or a week. Most people here aren't going to bug every few hours or even every few days asking where you're at with a project. By constantly being wishy washy, ZigFried has earned a reputation for announcing a project only to drop it a few days later. That's made everyone skeptical about whether or not any projects he announces will actually be carried to fruition.

With all that said, I loved this project. I'd love to see it continued. I don't personally believe, however, that ZigFried will continue it or finish it.

Lucas @ The Oscars
Time
I just had a look at the Oscar video (I don't watch any awards ceremonies anymore).

The skit looked pretty good. The one thing I did notice is Scorcese's (sp?) face. Before they announced the winner, he looked pretty sad. Almost like he was thinking "I got nominated...AGAIN...and I'll probably get snubbed...AGAIN". When they announced he was the winner, it was almost like a look of relief. I bet he was thinking "ABOUT TIME!". Someone else mentioned that it was probably more of a lifetime achievement award and I totally agree with that.

Maybe that's because instead of just CGing everything, the folks that worked on Narnia actually tried to have a good mix of CG, models, and the real thing. Narnia looked believable. ROTS looked just like what it was, like someone built a world inside a computer and then put some actors against green screen inside it. In three movies, Lucas didn't manage to do much of anything that was revolutionary (for him). That's the reason ROTK won Best Picture, to pay Peter Jackson tribute essentially for the entire LOTR trilogy. There's no way he would've gotten it for each movie, especially since they came out a year apart.

I loved ROTS as much as the next Star Wars fan (which is not very much), but Narnia was far and away more believable.
