Jonh if possible you should do a final release without any color correction to the lightsaber. Then anyone including yourself can correct it from that final version in their edits. (No purple for me personally)

Yeah I’ll prob zoom in just a bit too to get the text closer to the edges. We’ll see.

jonh ok well we need you to be able to finish this so everyone should help to keep the scope of your scenes manageable. Then we can have a finished product soon. The force ghosts can just fade out as soon as Palpatine’s dead. The quarantine won’t last forever.

And nice work on the film for the telephone of the dead. I like how they put the guy saying “don’t fuck with me” into the trailer. Cool!

Idir_hh below is a link to my final crawl for TROS: Resurgence. I just paid to have the crawl rendered into a 1080p file rather than mess with it myself. Workprint will be released soon and guess what, Rey killed her parents. Changed the scene to Rey saying: “I killed my mother. And my father.”

I don’t really care so much for the force shield. Rey’s a big girl and doesn’t need it. She’s standing in front of the men for a reason. Is Mace Windu up front with his bad motherfucker wallet? No.

Also, the whole final boss battle between Rey and Palpatine (as released in the theater) seemed a bit too dragonball-Z-ish for me and the shield just adds to that.

Leaving the shield in is better though because I can probably edit it out easily and then those who like it can use it for their edits.

I don’t know where jonh has been hiding but he’s another genius like poppasketti.

Well I’m a bit over 30, and I hated when they retconned ROTJ with force ghost Hayden. Nevertheless this new trilogy is almost a reboot and many of its viewers and true fans (in their minds) have never seen the OT. So like the wise Supreme Leader says, let the past die.

Hal, Dom, everyone… I’m about to release a workprint of my edit, TROS: Resurgence. But I need help with generating the opening crawl. Is there some kind soul on the forum who already has something like an After Effects template loaded and could render it?

Yeah it’s weird. Using Shaw or even weirder, a hybrid Christensen-Shaw is masturbatory fanboy fantasy that the average fan would be completely lost watching. As mediocre as the prequel trilogy was, if you want to include an Anakin force ghost it’s got to be Hayden. I want my edit to be for mainstream audiences, not people who took a Star Wars class in college (which I actually did).

Ebkas that’s really great. Yoda did look “ok” in TLJ but not perfect. He was noticeably fatter.

The four is really all we need. Sometimes less is more and subtlety is better. Thanks again for making this look so perfect! It makes me very excited for this improved ending. And now it makes me even more firm in my decision to remove the silly Luke and Leia hippie force ghosts in the desert!!!

Jonh other suggestions/comments for your consideration:

1. In the close ups of each of the force ghosts, it seems they each get the same sequence of lightning flashes. I would try to make the lightning flashes seem more random in the close ups. Varying the length of each close up might also help.

2. Just before Rey goes to kill Palpatine, if you decide to show even more force ghosts in the distance, a female Jedi would be good to add if possible and Mace Windu would be cool.

3. You chose the perfect characters to appear behind Rey. Nice job. And Obi-Wan looks tough!

Jonh just wow superb vfx work. You have made this final fight feel so right. Whenever it’s ready I would be interested in the HQ release of this full scene. No one’s edit would be complete without this. Star Wars isn’t complete with out this. As Jerry McGuire says, “you complete m…” Ah well you get the point. 😃

True. Tho in my edit she is not taking the violent path either. It’s a slippery gray slope to the dark side in keeping with themes of TLJ.

I think of it like this. A snake is a symbol of true evil. Because of Rey’s inclination to become even more evil and powerful than Palpatine (evil incarnate) himself, the snake does not harm her and leaves. This imo is much better than shoehorning a force healing (snake) to mentally prep the audience for a later force healing (Ren).

Dom’s version has a great addition of Rey intercut with Ren. I used Dom’s force lightning idea for mine. But I wanted to focus on the loss of friends for my edit so I used Finn.

Thanks idir_hh it was your great idea. Just don’t get too excited about any VFX coming from me, because this can certainly be done well without it. When Ren told Rey in TLJ her parents sold her for drinking money we believed it based on her reaction; we didn’t need a flashback of them living it up in Mos Eisley. And so it can be the same for TROS: Resurgence and any other edit which may go this route.
